Bobi Wine still M.I.A. and we can wonder how long it last

Today is the 23rd Day since Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu aka Bobi Wine went into hiding. Since the 16th January 2026 he has been missing and on the run. He has cleverly moved and been crossing districts. We don’t know where he is right now and rightfully so. His moving in silence and shielded by the public while doing so.

It is striking that the biggest contender and the most popular opposition leader of the Republic did this after the polls. He went missing straight away and rightfully so. We have seen what the state does to fellow opposition leaders and activists. Not like Bobi Wine don’t know the plight or the sacrifices others has done for the cause. There are thousands upon thousands in detention, in the fridge or are captured by the state. Just because they are affiliated with him and his National Unity Platform (NUP).

So, there is no need to be critical of the decision to go into refuge and flee his home in Magere, Wakiso district. The state has already besieged the place and created road-blocks to it. Their actions against the family members and such will be put on records too. They are vile against the ones left behind at home. Meanwhile, Bobi Wine was on the run. It is really telling how systematic they are in brutally and viciousness. When they do this to civilians and without any probable cause either.

Bobi Wine is on move and his whereabouts is unknown. The longevity of it is damaging in the intelligence community and the law enforcement, which are looking out for him. Yes, they claim they are not, but the CDF has sleepless nights over it. So, we know he wants him and in bracelets. Regardless, if he has done any crimes or not. We know the CDF thinks the NUP are terrorists by definition, but he could never utter what sort of act of terror their committed. However, we know the likes of Bobi Wine damages the calm and the spirit of the brute. That’s maybe why he holds a grudge and can’t let go.

Usually after these elections, the leader of opposition are in prolonged house-arrest, later charged with treason and possibly moved up-country for long incarceration. Even if there is no proof of the alleged criminal conspiracy or possible treason, which they are pinning on the individual. That’s just what they do and we were just awaiting his turn to be detained in Moroto after these elections. It would have been status quo and what the state does to fellow peers.

For now Bobi Wine has skipped that fate. We cannot know for how long he can be on the run. This race isn’t set in stone and the longevity of it just becomes harder. Sooner or later he gets close to someone who would rat him out and barter him. That’s just how it goes… and there is disingenuous people out there. Also possible Movement people who would get credited and acknowledged for tracing him down.

Certainly, the NRM didn’t anticipate this and that he would be able to do this. They didn’t phantom this and that’s why they are little bit shocked or stressed by it. The predecessors didn’t do this or even risk what his doing.

Bobi Wine has by this choice shown the ugly face of the Republic. He is showing the sinister nature of the whole process and what they are willing to do. We are already seeing how the state are arraigning NUP leaders and activists or keeping other opposition leaders behind bars too. There are so many cases and it shows how they are targeted.

Bobi Wine cannot lead a party this way. That’s a given. He has enough with moving and being careful with his surroundings. It is some undercover or spy novel act of the singer turned politician. Certainly not what we would have thought of him in 2018, but here we are….

Bobi Wine isn’t forgotten and won’t be. His is still out there and causing havoc for the ones in power. The regime didn’t anticipated this and that’s why it couldn’t coordinate in according to his decisions. That’s why this is striking and telling. Peace.
