Zimbabwe: Chamisa’s [de]fault line – A look into the “update on the resolution of the disputed August 2023 elections”

I have prepared this brief statement to update you on the efforts around the resolution

of the disputed outcome of the August 2023 general elections that did not produce a

credible and legitimate government chosen by the citizens of Zimbabwe” – Nelson Chamisa (27.05.2024).

Today, Nelson Chamisa, the vastly important opposition leader in Zimbabwe published a three pages update on the resolution in regards to the August 2023 Elections. The elections that ensured legitimacy for a second term for President Mnangagwa. It has also given more power to ZANU-PF and briefcase opposition leaders who has dismantled the CCC, piece by piece. Just like it was done in the previous term with the MDC-Alliance.

Chamisa seems to be futile and lack proper choices for his movement. There isn’t much meat or anything digestible from the update. It just shows that it’s all thoughts and prayers. We know there is a lack of proper resolutions or built up on your own…

When Chamisa says this: “On the 29th of April, however, since considerable time has passed, yet we had sought to resolve this issue much earlier, we delivered our follow-up to SADC for which we await a response to determine a clear path forward to resolve the governance crisis and leadership dispute. Our request to SADC was and remains very simple, that, as the regional body which

Zimbabwe has signed up for membership and vested some authority in the supranational

intergovernmental organization, we require their facilitation to peacefully resolve the

issues around the irregular and disputed elections” (Chamisa, 27.05.2024).

He has petitioned the SADC, but that regional body won’t touch or deal with the August 2023 Elections. That is well known and isn’t news. The only thing Chamisa can get is sympathy and advice for the authorities and the electoral bodies. Alas, the actions and the laws will be implemented by the Zimbabwean government itself. We have seen this movie before… and it isn’t funny. SADC can be called upon, but it won’t save you and has no interest in doing so. It serves the “elected” leadership and won’t challenge that.

Chamisa continues: “We reiterate this point to SADC, the AU and indeed to the international community, that it is untidy and untenable to sanitize or fertilize theft of elections and electoral

malpractices by turning a deaf ear and casting a blind eye to matters of gigantic electoral fraud. Such is an afront to “the Africa we want”. As you are aware, elections are the highest level through which a mandate is attained or ascertained as a contract between the governing and the governed. No government can justly claim authority to govern unless it is based on the will and consent of the people” (Chamisa, 27.05.2024).

Chamisa isn’t wrong with what he writes or says. We are several who has written the same. But he should know that the SADC and AU won’t come with salvation or hope. They will only condemn and move on. There is nothing they will bring to the table or change anything. That has to happen from within. This is why Chamisa is on a fool’s errand in this regard. The ideals and the words he writes are the truth, but they don’t carry weight when there is no internal resolve.

He continues: “Our beautiful country can never progress on the back of disunity and successive disputed national processes including contested elections. We are acutely aware of the urgency

of this matter and more importantly that there can never be any talk of 2028 or a viable and stable future for this country without resolving August 2023, the broken past, and disputed politics. It remains our hope and indeed your hope that all these concerns will be addressed with urgency and seriousness” (Chamisa, 27.05.2024).

As we see, he himself just petitions and asks for outside entities to bring remedies. While now striking a cord that there is a need for change within. There is only talk of creating a new election and making it credible. However, ZANU-PF and Mnangagwa won’t risk that or deliver this. That isn’t in their interests and Chamisa knows this. That’s why he has lost MDC-Alliance and the CCC. This is what ZANU-PF has created and Chamisa has nowhere to hide. Neither is it creating any uprising or will to revolt. There is no signs of that… and distrust of government is natural when you live on a lie, but that won’t make the citizens spark in fury over night.

It is so unique that he ends like this: “I therefore urge you to take an active role in peacefully determining the destiny of our country. I exhort you, fellow citizens, the intercessors, and the church, to continue to pray for a smooth and peaceful transition in our country. Stay the course, hold the fort, hold fast and stand involved. Stand ready. Change is upon us” (Chamisa, 27.05.2024).

It is hard reading this paragraph after publishing an update calling upon SADC and the AU. That’s who he called upon and wanted some resolve from, but isn’t getting. Alas, after all of that he asks for people or the citizens to participate, but he himself haven’t talked about or directed where they should act upon it. Neither is there a guidelines or memorandum that shows where he wants people to go. There is a need for what he says…

We know the ZANU-PF won’t fear this update or Chamisa. Neither will they be worried about SADC or AU. They will not touch the leaders of Harare. No they are shielded and safe. Chamisa should focus on building momentum and a movement that cannot be hijacked by the ZANU-PF. That’s what he needs to build and an organization that cannot be touched or used by puppets of regime. This is where his energy should go… unless he wants to be a voice of a revolution. Because, right now… his to moderate and seems to bewildered about the situation his in. Peace.

Opinion: Chiwenga doesn’t understand political independence…

They said Ngaapinde Hake Mukomana. Getting where? The boy should be a goat herder. He should grow up and do things the proper way. He cannot continue to be self-centred, if he wants power he should join others” – Vice President Gen. Constantino Chiwenga (23.04.2024).

The General and Vice President of the Republic, Constantino Chiwenga doesn’t understand or doesn’t want to grasp the way opposition leader Nelson Chamisa operates. Chiwenga has been part of the ZANU-PF and a loyalist at that. Only turned against Mugabe to ensure his ally President Emmerson Mnangagwa could rise to power. Except for that… he has been a token soldier and fighting for the regime.

Gen. Chiwenga cannot even phantom what Chamisa is doing and has done. Never has he been in such hostile environment and with such hardships that Nelson has been through. Nothing Chamisa has been given and neither has he earned much on it either. Chamisa has been betrayed, played and used by others.

If it was in the MDC, MDC Alliance or in the CCC. Everywhere he has walked people have danced to his tunes, but later enlarged their pockets on double foolery for the state apparatus. That’s why so few MPs and legislators has followed Chamisa after his resignation as the Party President of the CCC. This is because they need the salaries and are afraid of losing their moment to eat. Therefore, he has few to lean on or trust.

Chamisa doesn’t have a Politburo or a State Apparatus on his side. He has it all against him. Everything that the Rotten Row or the elites can bring, they will send it against him. If it will be a trick… a joke or mockery of the party his running. They will undermine and destroy the opposition. This is what they aiming for and they hoped Chamisa would be fooled by their tricks. However, he caught them… and that’s why he ditched.

Everyone can wonder what he will do next. That’s why Gen. Chiwenga is making jokes on behalf of Chamisa. Nevertheless, he is a true leader when you have to address someone and a person who doesn’t have an organization behind him. Chamisa have no party and have no movement. His a lonely fellow in some parts now. There are few allies, but plenty who has betrayed him for a easy envelope.

So for the General to say to him to rear goats is beneath Chamisa. It is beneath the General to rear goats. It is said to silence and stop Chamisa… so he can do something else than politics. However, we know wherever Chamisa will go… many people will follow him because of his integrity and resilience. Therefore, Chiwenga trying to make a fool out of him… is only backfiring.

The General should know better, but he does this prove a point. A point that has no grounds or articulate reasoning behind him. Since we all know the moment Chamisa launches or decides. It will spark a flame and a fire, which the ZANU-PF doesn’t want to see. They want to have the popularity of Chamisa. However, the regime doesn’t have that and this is why they trying to outsmart him.

Nevertheless, Chamisa has been tested and will go through the ringer again. No matter where he stands.. he will be touched and the state will aim at him. This is because of who he is and what he stands for. They will find any excuses to attack and strike at him. However, the General is in a losing battle. It is just a matter of time.

Chamisa is their arch enemy and nemesis… they don’t know how to handle him and he always ends on top. Peace.

Zimbabwe: Another currency is launched…

RBZ Governor John Mushayavanhu states that the value of the Zimbabwean dollar is not equivalent to the Zimbabwean Gold (ZiG). Starting Monday, Zimbabwe dollar balances will be exchanged at a rate of ZWL$1 to ZiG 13,5686. Mushayavanhu explains that this value is determined by dividing the ZWL rate by the current gold price” (Cite Zimbabwe, 05.04.2024).

In Harare today the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe Governor John Mushayavanhu launched the new currency ZiG which will takeover from ZWL. That’s a change from the RTGS Notes, Bond-Notes and whatnot that has been in the so not distant past.

This is doing the same thing again and we can wonder how quickly this monetary policy will fail. The currency will quickly be devalued and become a commodity on the black-market. The ZANU-PF usage of these policies have just been a trick and later destroyed the trust in the national currency. That’s why the public has ended up to trust in the United States Dollars over the National Currency.

If you have doubt in this… you should and there is little to trust. The value of the currency and the basis for longevity is that the public think it is worth what it says. Nevertheless, the regime in the nation haven’t found a way to stabilize the economy or fiscal policies to make a sufficient currency working. This is why the re-invention of another one will just be another of failure.

There is little proof that this will work. We have seen how these things has played out before and without any shadow of a doubt. The ZANU-PF and President Mnangagwa haven’t shown any signs of change or will to build confidence in their policies. That’s why we know things are dire and they will not be stable.

As long as there is no stability and trust in a currency, you are just bound to go down in flames. That’s just a pattern of work and how the procedural drive has been. The modus operandi is just an epic downfall coming their way.

If this is Ziggy Mari or Ziggy Marley. If this is a joke or a blunt retort from the state to look sincere. We know they will just waste more funds and find ways to make schemes in this name. Just like they made schemes with the RTGS, ZWL and now ZiG.

The Zimbabwe Gold Notes will just be a default setting and we know they will be swallowed in a grim black market or rising inflation. Sooner or later this will make people incapacitated and lack fiscal funds, as we have seen before. It is just a matter of time before public outcries and lack of proper value of the currency. That’s just how these things plays out and the civil servants would prefer to paid in US Dollars over ZiG. It is just the ways things goes under ZANU-PF. Peace.

Opinion: Sikhala now walks alone…

Former Zengeza West MP Job Sikhala has launched a new movement, the National Democratic Working Group (NDWG). In a communiqué, NDWG head of information and communication Darlington Chingwena said the movement is a convergence of democratic forces seeking to “free masses from political chains”. Said Chingwena: “The NDWG is a mass of our people-driven movement of the democratic forces in Zimbabwe who are determined to build a solid base for our people to discuss their aspirations and find the best way forward”” (Pindula, 05.03.2024).

It is now official that the former MP and vocal opposition leader, Job Sikhala has started his own movement or party. That is evident that his not joining any fraction of the CCC or the leftovers of the fall-out of the MDC-Alliance/MDC-T.

He is now starting a fresh after being detained as a political prisoner for 595 days. Sikhala should find his way and this is his journey now.

What is striking is that he has to build his own team and create a momentum on his own. Yes, he has a name and is well known for his advocacy and activism as a politician. Sikhala deserve credit for what he did and where he has become.

Some might say this was inevitable. Because of how the opposition is in a quagmire and the only way out for him was to create his own. While that is maybe true. Still, without allies and coordination with others. It might end up to be a briefcase party. A one man party and not a movement, which will make a difference.

This Movement might be enough to sustain Job Sikhala himself, but he has to become a juggernaut and a titan in the space of the opposition. Sikhala has been a firebrand and a man without fear. He has stood tall and been vibrant…

We have to see where this moving, but we can wonder if he can build and create a vital organization. Especially, when the ZANU-PF does whatever it can destroy anything sincere or anything that becomes relevant except for them. So, if Sikhala becomes to big, the authorities and others will find ways to malign and again strike hard against him.

We can wish Sikhala the best on his journey. Now he walks alone. Unless, he suddenly has the masses ready to sign up and be a part of his movement. That has to be proven and time will only tell… Peace.
