Today there was redemption in Alebtong district and in Ajuri county, as the Uganda People’s Congress Member of Parliament candidate Fred Jalameso won over National Resistance Movement (NRM) incumbent MP and Chief Whip Denis Hamson Obua.
There was trickery and ploy to get the incumbent proclaimed the victor in the first round of this election. As the Presidential and Parliamentary Elections on the 15th January scheduled him to win. He tried to force himself on the people and take away their will. However, that didn’t hold and this one out of three races that got a do-over by the Electoral Commission.
In a rare instance in a By-Election like this that the opposition and the non-government sponsored candidate conquer the state own. There has been very few of those and shows the finesse of the UPC here. That they were able to get it over the finish line and actually succeed on the second time. This is an achievement and especially when someone who has been the man of the President and a man of the Speaker. He surely had leverage and had grand support nationally for his candidacy. Not like he was a little man and with no big-men to give him a boost. However, that didn’t matter and it shows.
It is just beautiful to this happening. That the UPC is getting this mandate and sending such a figure home. This just shows that the locals aren’t seeing what the President or the Speaker is seeing. They are tired of the man and doesn’t trust him. These people want another man to represent them and do their bidding. A teacher turned legislator.
This is worth celebrating after a sombre and a horrific election season. Not like this General Election or anything has been any good. There is very little to be happy about or be sincere about. As it is forgery and a charade to give the National Resistance Movement a legitimate mandate for another term. That’s it…
This doesn’t change it, but it shows it’s still possible to beat the big-men and send them packing. Peace.

“For the opposition, turning loss into long-term growth requires honest self-assessment, not going into hiding. Popularity, music, charisma, and online energy cannot replace alliances, structures, data, and disciplined strategy. The recent election was not decided in the 3 months of campaigns. It was decided in the five years between elections. And in that period, one side organized while the other mostly energized” (Gerald Kansiime Kagyenzi – ‘Hope Is not a Strategy: Why the Opposition Fell Apart’, 27.01.2026, Nile Post).
This here is just a flawed article from the Nile Post, the digital newspaper who sanitize and wants to deliberately speak well of the government. The modern imprint of New Vision. That’s who they are, and this article just proved that from Mr. Gerald Kasiime Kagyenzi.
His arguments are flawed for one reason. The main culprit and main reason for the failure of the opposition, isn’t the opposition itself, but the government and their entities. Let me explain the important fact, which was hidden in his text.
The National Resistance Movement (NRM) and the state party itself wasn’t a shadow or anything like that. No, the NRM had the whole state machinery behind it and even every part of the authorities to back them up. The Party itself doesn’t need structures or vibes even, when they can just send law enforcement and besiege the opposition at any given time. Therefore, regardless of what the opposition did or said. Well, it won’t matter, because the army and the other security organizations will hunt the opposition down. Which it did and it even helped in other civilian affairs too.
It would be rich to see the NRM work and try to campaign like the opposition. In the same climate and with the same reckless attitude of the state against it. See their Presidential Candidate being blocked, MPs arraigned and coordinators kidnapped. That would be really a vision to see… because then we are speaking of level playing field. As if, they could be touched, be taken into custody and kept incommunicado by drones. That would really a poetic justice. However, we know that day won’t come soon. The NRM and the army wouldn’t allow that.
When Kagyenzi speaks of structure, well the NRM Primaries proves how shaky and shoddy they are. We see the blunt affairs and how they act. So, he acts like we don’t know and he speaks like the opposition has no structures, no organization or anything, which is false. As they try to compete, build and organize, but the NRM isn’t really allowing it or letting them act like them. There is a threshold for the opposition versus the NRM. The ones who can’t see that should study the Police Force and the Public Order Management Act. Which is made to control and sustain the opposition, which we see day by day.
If the opposition would have a friendly army and have military operations succeeding for itself. Then might have won, but that’s only for the NRM to get. We know they can have the army to act on its behalf and serve the parties interests. That’s why soldiers, law enforcement and other security entities was all participating in this election. They were the ones that secured it and finalized the results even. So, there is no need of speeches or big salutations after it. Because everyone knows who mattered and who served His Excellency.
So, who and what army can beat the NRM? Well, another army and another gang of bullets, because the ballots are just part of the charade to legitimize the whole affair. It isn’t even funny, but just tragic. As lives are lost and they don’t mind doing that. Just to prove a point and show the Republic who are in power and has all the instruments of the state at its disposal. That’s what we see, and it isn’t even done clever. If they were smart, they would try to conceal it, but it wasn’t even a clandestine mission. However, it was done in the open and for everyone to see. They tried to block the internet, but everyone knows. So please, find better arguments, because this isn’t it. Peace.

“Addressing the press in Lira City on Monday, Nyero Moses, NRM chairperson for Myene sub-county, stated that the ONC coordinator for Oyam must account for over shs7m meant for facilitating youth hired to protect votes for their candidate (now President-elect), Yoweri Kaguta Museveni. Nyero said some polling agents were paid – others not. Some were paid shs10,000 as opposed to shs50,000 as facilitation. Edwok Moses, NRM youth chairperson of Oyam district said that with evidence, they were shocked to learn that the director of finance and administration at the Electoral Commission. Cyprian Ogwang was in Oyam on polling day, where he masterminded electoral malpractice. Ogwang, Edwok said, connived with some NRM party leaders, and security officers to “rig the election” and ensure the youth’s target of Museveni getting 95% in Oyam district was not achieved” (The Northern Daily – TDN News Uganda, 26.01.2026).
Some things never fails and that’s greed. The moment of truth and the misuse of office. This is systemic and part of what the President has created over the years. The commercialization of politics embedded with costly patronage is breeding ground for rampant corruption, which isn’t surprising but what to be expected in the Republic.
The youths tale in Oyam district should be a warning. This is small money in the grand scheme of things, but it happens on a larger scale elsewhere. It is telling that someone does this so close to the election and uses the funds on other things. The youths partaking and accepting responsibility wasn’t paid as promised for their efforts. Regardless, if we care for the cause or think it is a just one. Still, they deserve their dues and get their balance. However, that’s not coming here and someone ate their salaries.
This is just what the National Resistance Movement (NRM) does and how it operates. That’s why people does it and gets away with it too. It is just who they are and we shouldn’t be shocked or be thinking otherwise really. The President has promoted these sorts of activities and it’s natural that people far-and-wide is doing it. They see others get away with it and think it’s their turn to get a cut. Because, when other big-men gets their piece, so should I and therein is the problem.
The youths of Oyam district is just a small fraction, but this is how public expenditure is lost. This is how the system is rigged against the civilians and the citizens. As they are used and mocked, meanwhile the elites are eating of their plates. They are supposed to grin and laugh, but they taken for granted and someone else ate their meal on their behalf. That’s what they are doing and we are just supposed to look idly by.
If you think the NRM government and their handlers are honest. Just look and read this story again. It shows their heart and what they are capable of doing. A small time and a part time gig wasn’t even paid in full and someone else took the cash. Youth who did a job and did the hours as stipulated. These people was short-changed, just so one man could get a bounty.
That’s it and this is a reflection of the NRM as a whole and how corruption is a natural part of the party. It is who they are and what they have become. Peace.
