Opinion: Wycliff Kasaija Kizza wants to become a punchline

“Wycliff Kasaija Kizza, 23, a final-year Business student at Kampala International University, has announced his bid for the Ugandan presidency in the 2026 General Election, aiming to end President Museveni’s four-decade rule. Kasaija plans to drive economic growth by leveraging Uganda’s petroleum resources, drawing inspiration from the UAE’s development model. He also stresses the importance of youth-led efforts in promoting sustainable development” (David Walugembe – NTV Uganda, 20.06.2025).

On Friday 20th June of 2025, Wycliff Kasaija Kizza launched his Presidential bid for the General Elections of 2026. We have seen this game before and this will fall flat. A young gun without a political platform or nationwide support.

This sort of game has been played out before and done without any sort of flair. That has been done in 2016 and 2021 elections. Where young wild cards are independently running for the Presidency. Meanwhile, they lack the acumen, articulation or even a plan or a manifesto to prove sincere political gameplan. They are just doing this to create clout and become a well-known name.

These sorts of candidates won’t win hearts or make themselves electable. No, they will become jokes and the person itself becomes a punchline. They are just mere puns and nothing more. That’s why he will end up in the lines of Joseph Mabarizi or John Katumba. These were just young guns who didn’t have a shot or even a destination with their causes.

Nothing wrong with ambition, but it’s wise to prove your worth first. Secondly, when you’re running for the highest office of the land. It would be smart to be a known character and someone we know anything about. Not like a personality or have even a public profile. That’s why it’s futile. Even others with bigger name and been in the political sphere for years has failed as Presidential Candidates.

That’s why these youthful candidates are only filling in the forms and giving the electorate choices. Even if the choice is a waste and he would be better to run as a Local Councillor or LCV and start from the ground up. That way he would go through the ranks and become a local phenomenon, instead he becomes the butt of a joke.

Wycliff Kasaija Kizza needs guidance… but I doubt he will get any or listen. Not like he created headlines or even made any fuzz surrounding the launch. No, it went away like hot air. Because there is nothing and it’s pointless. Peace.

Tchad: Is this the end of Succès Masra?

“Abduction of Success Masra: The leader of the Transformers appears in court today. In the official indictment register issued by the N’Djamena General Prosecutor’s Office, dated June 16, 2025 and signed by the Attorney General, the hearing of former Prime Minister Succès Masra before the indictment chamber is scheduled for June 19. Three major hypotheses are looming on the horizon. The first, feared, would see the government organize a closed-door trial to officially validate the ousting of its main opponent from the political scene. The second would depend on a strong international or national mobilization forcing a conditional release. The last, more cynical, would consist of indefinitely extending the detention without formal recognition, to disorient the leader’s supporters. In any case, this announced appearance before the indictment chamber is not a simple judicial act: it enshrines the political use of justice in a sequence where the separation of powers seems more theoretical every day” (Tchad One, 19.06.2025).

Today we will most likely see what the authorities in N’Djamena will do with the Opposition Leader and Party President of the Transformer Party, the former Prime Minister Succès Masra. His whereabouts and his fate have been uncertain of late, but today we will know what the next steps are for him.

This shows what happens to someone who opposes and goes against the Deby dynasty. He was a pawn and useful idiot to promise a transition, but he didn’t get that when he accepted the deal with Gen. Kaka. They only used him and his status to gain positivity. Alas, the government of generals wouldn’t suddenly become civilian or be sincere representation of the people. No, they only needed people like Masra to look supreme.

Masra gave legitimacy to the reign and the rule of Gen. Kaka. The Field Marshal got all the points and positive vibes by doing so. Nevertheless, he becomes more of a symbolic victim of the state. It’s only about a year ago since the state assassinated Yaya Dillo and completely depleted Parti Socialiste Sans Frontières (PSF). So, maybe they are trying to forge this with a more “legal” route and not use extra judicial killing to destroy the Transformer Party.

We should expect a “treasonous” charge and case pending on him. That’s what these sorts of arrests and keeping an opposition leader on lock for. To ensure they have the rights and the credibility to keep him detained indefinitely.

Masra took a gamble returning from exile and accepting the appointment of becoming Prime Minister. Now his within their midst and now they can annihilate him. They are maybe not doing it with bullets or poison, but they will do it with the weaponization of authorities to aim at him. They will now go after him and throw away the key.

He is now in trouble, and he won’t return to freedom anytime soon. Masra is now a victim of his own folly and trusting the likes of Gen. Kaka. That’s something he shouldn’t have done, but he had faith and ideals, which wasn’t aligned with reality. Peace.
