Ukraine: Zelensky has leverage and should use it

“We received signals from partners in the Middle East. There have been strikes by Iranian “shaheds” on civilians in those countries. They are seeking our expertise. We are open. If their representatives come, we will provide the expertise. Especially since there is also a request from Europeans and from the United States. Requests have come to us to share our experience with partners in the Middle East. Regarding weapons: we ourselves are at war. And I said, completely frankly, that we have a shortage of what they have. They have missiles for the Patriots, but hundreds or thousands of “shaheds” cannot be intercepted with Patriot missiles – it is too costly. Nothing is too much for the people, of course, but they simply do not have that many missiles. That is why they need interceptor drones, which we have. Meanwhile, we have a shortage of PAC-2 and PAC-3 missiles. So, when it comes to technology or weapons exchange, I believe our country will be open to it” – President Volodymyr Zelensky (04.03.2026).

Today after years of conflict and continues defence war between Ukraine and the Russian-Belorussian axis against them. Kyiv finally has a word and has a say. Because they have the knowhow and the experience in means to stop the invasion of Iranian drones and Iranian military technology. The Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) has now the knowledge and the ability to stop these sorts of weaponry against it. Therefore, the learned skill and the price of defending against it is now a valuable asset.

Kyiv now has a card. Heck, Kyiv has something valuable and they can help allies. Allies who have blocked arms and made it hectic for them to wage a defensive war. Washington D.C. has been a stepping stone and a direct blockade of delivery of promised weapons, ammunition and whatnot to Kyiv.

Trump has ambushed and treated Zelensky with harsh means. He has treated him badly and been a worse as an adversary. Trump could easily be an enemy of Zelensky by how he has operated and acted regarding Ukraine. Now that Trump is under fire and started a conflict, which he never understood the implications of. That’s why he suddenly calls Kyiv and asks for help. After he has done everything in his way to weaken and make things worse for the Ukrainian efforts to stifle and stop Russian from invading their nation. This is why…

Zelensky should get everything he asks for. Zelensky should be greedy and be on the offensive. He should, because Trump isn’t a trustworthy leader or a character you can depend on. So, he should ask for the gifts of heaven and whatever he can send to Kyiv in exchange for the means to stop Iranian drones in the Middle East. That’s what he should, and no one should blame him.

Now is the time for the United States of America to pay Ukraine. Now is the time to serve Ukraine and give them what they are asking for. If they want help from Ukraine. Ukraine should get whatever it is asking for. That’s if the USA wants to have wisdom or the ability to stop the Iranian attacks in the Middle East. As they have what he needs… and Trump should bend the knee.

No one can trust Trump. No one should believe anything Trump does. That’s why Ukraine should only offer their knowhow and possible technologies when the U.S. has delivered what they have promised. Because they have promised before and never delivered it. So, please…

Kyiv be smart. You have leverage. Use it. Peace.

United Arab Emirates: The Permanent Mission of the United Arab Emirates to the United Nations, New York, Ambassador Mohamed Abdushahab letter to United Nations Secretary General Antonio Guterres (02.03.2026)

Opinion: Trump cannot even “sell” this war

We have from the beginning, we’ve projected 4-5 weeks but we have capability to go far longer than that. We will do whatever… They said ‘oh well, the President wants to do it really quickly, after that he’ll get bored.’ I don’t get bored. There is nothing boring about this. There is nothing boring about it” – President Donald J. Trump (02.03.2026).

The war against Iran which Trump and Netanyahu ordered are now backfiring. These two can’t even explain or give proper reasons for doing so. They have given the war various of names, but it won’t be splendid or anything extra-ordinary, as this is just a hogwash war to dishonour the world. There seems to be a mismatch of what narratives the U.S. wants to spread. Neither has the U.S. or Israel tried to get the International Community or the United Nations involved in it. Instead they did everything to just launch it and hope it finished by the morning.

President Trump seems like he wants to look like he got it. That he can be the international and world wide bully. Nevertheless, this case it doesn’t work. That’s why the Iranians has captured him already and they are creating more havoc across the Middle East. They are targeting all the military installations and the bases of which the U.S. operates in the nearby area of Iran. This is why the U.S. wasn’t prepared for that or had stockpiles of defensive equipment to met this pressure for their allies. That’s why the Gulf Nations feels betrayed and left behind by the U.S., as they could build bases and be in the region. That was supposed to defend both interests, but now Pentagon and the Department of War wasn’t ready or even considering the implications of their warfare. That’s why we are here… and seeing the ramifications.

The Peter Hegseth’s of the world cannot even hold the story together and says they are not the ones who did it. He is claiming it was Iran who started it. Really showing the arrogance and the blatant disregard for the truth on the 3rd Day of Conflict. The ruse is here, but who will be fooled?

As President Trump speaks of drapes and other artefacts, because he cannot find something more ridiculous to say. This inept and corrupt government lacks character, they are warmongers and such who doesn’t have any sense. These people cannot even find grounds or reasoning, these people couldn’t even put the dope on the table and say we are catching the drug dealers. No, they just claim the drugs are there and that someone is illegally transported it across the border. Therefore, these people don’t have the guts or the balls to tell the truth.

Truth is dangerous. The truth is supreme and make all the lies naked. Trump and Netanyahu cannot tell the truth. They rather lie and this is why their stories doesn’t add up. The Pentagon or the U.S. cannot muster any reasonable doubt for this attack. They are just ping-pong the grounds and the bollocks timeline, as if we cannot see they are doing it on wings and a prayer. This is the bleak reality…

Trump doesn’t mind the deaths, the destruction and people living in the ashes. He wants to build hotels in Gaza and the West Bank as the Chairman of the Board of Peace. Surely, him and Kushner has ideas of building a residential building in Teheran too. Nevertheless, don’t expect magic or anything sincere here. Just like their porkies.

Most likely someone gave Trump an ultimatum or a deal he couldn’t say “no” too. That’s why we are here, but everything else seems to be out of play. As the slow operations and start of it. That’s why Trump already has asked Iran back to the negotiation table. Like he can ask for dialogue after killing lots of the central leadership of the Iranian government. Who does he think he is and that’s all just a game?

This is why reality will hit him. There will be consequences for him because of this. Not only the missiles and destruction in the Middle East. No, Trump will be held responsible, as he did it and ordered the war. It is all on him and Netanyahu. Both of them did this… and we know it. Their stories won’t change it.

The U.S. and Israel has to be held responsible for acting in this manner and giving Iran the reasons to retaliate. This wouldn’t have happened without the attack from the axis. Those decided that… and we are now just following the aftermath of it. Peace.

Lesotho: Statement by the Kingdom of Lesotho on the Emerging Security Situation in the Middle East (02.03.2026)

The Israeli-US war against Iran on Day 3: Cyprus waving a white flag

“Our country is not participating in any way, nor does it intend to become part of any military operation” – President of Cyprus – Nikos Christodoulides (02.03.2026).

“We did not start this war. But under President Trump, we are ending it” – U.S. Secretary of War Pete Hegseth (02.03.2026)

The ones living in oblivion and are deluded will believe the words of Hegseth or anyone else spewing that sort of propaganda. In this regard, as the bombs, missiles and usage of force are continuing in the Middle East as a response to the Israeli American attack on Iran. Iran retaliated and did so in defence after the Trump and Netanyahu went to war.

There is reports that US and Israel didn’t build up stockpiles or the needed military supply to continue a prolonged war. They were busy thinking a few strikes and assassinations then everything would go back to normal. Like the Iranians wouldn’t have the capabilities or the ability to keep up a prolonged conflict. Alas, there is where the axis of Washington and Tel Aviv mistakenly wrong. As they bombed a nation which was in the middle of negotiations and dialogue but got bombed instead by the other party.

That’s why I lack sympathy for Israel or U.S., as this was what they ordered and what they wanted. The Iranian forces are going after the allies, the nations who trusted the U.S. and Israel. This being Bahrain, United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Saudi Arabia. Jordan, Iraq or anyone else really. All of the Middle East has spiralled into the conflict and it’s everywhere. Everyone is touched and there is earth shattering missiles hitting military installations and vital infrastructure that was used by intelligence community or buildings in associated with that. Therefore, Iran isn’t shredding tears but coming with a powerful message that they won’t be muffled around and accept their fate of just being another target of Trump or another Republican for that matter. No, they will retaliate and respond to the ones going against them.

The nations who have the bases feels left behind by their ally. They accepted the strings and sought a defensive partnership by having these bases on their territories. That’s why they had the navy at the ports and the military bases with airports too. Just so the Americans could use it for whatever it saw fit. That’s why they accepted it… and now it is costing them. These nations are in the crossfire and are getting touched or touched by Iran. Iran is doing this to show the nations who attacked them or worked with their enemies aren’t shielded. This is being done after Israel and U.S. gone rouge with intent of “regime change” which isn’t happening. Yes, the Ayatollah was assassinated, but the leadership is just changing faces. So, this isn’t helping the cause at all.

“No stupid rules of engagement, no nation-building quagmire, no democracy-building exercise. No politically correct wars. We fight to win, and we don’t waste time or lives” – U.S. Secretary of War Pete Hegseth (02.03.2026)

This here doesn’t look like victory at all. The U.S. allies of the Middle East is feeling the pinch and left alone. The ones who allowed the U.S. army building infrastructure and military bases are now being burned at both ends. They are losing both wealth, power and whatever else that brought prosperity to these nations. That’s why they are calling foul and feels the U.S. didn’t honour their agreements or the reasonable prospects of having them on their soil. However, Trump didn’t consider it or even think this could be the implication of launching this war.

Meanwhile Tel Aviv is going into Lebanon and continuing the warfare there. So, for Israel it isn’t enough to just target Iran. They aren’t only lost in the waves of the attacks from Teheran. They are doing this to Beirut too and doing this to be the biggest warlord of the region. That’s why this war just launching into new levels and new enemies are created.

Pentagon is reported to go crazy, and they lack clear strategy ahead. They went into it like headless chickens and without a prior assessment of how things could play out. They just thought they could play wargames and that there wouldn’t be ramifications of it. Neither that the Iranians wouldn’t strike back or have the capabilities to do this. Like Teheran couldn’t plan or think of stockpiling the necessary weaponry to be a danger to the ones striking at it.

This here is just day three and there isn’t anything positive happening in the Middle East. Industries are hit. Petroleum is in danger. LNG or Gas are ceased operation too. Vessels are hit outside of Oman and the Strait of Hormuz. Planes are falling from the sky in Kuwait. Therefore, this day is a reckoning.

This isn’t a theatre or a play; no this is real life. People’s lives are in danger. Energy markets hit across the world. War is dangerous and treasonous territory, which we don’t know how it moves. That’s why every day is different and the strikes are hitting new places, which has new consequences. This is all the fault of Israel and the United States who launched this war. They are responsible for the retaliations of Iran. Therefore, they cannot act like they are on the defensive or the ones who did it in self-defence. No, they are the aggressor and the ones who acted with malice. Peace.

The Commonwealth is made for the UK’s own Interests: One proof, Johnson’s well-wished for Trade Declaration!

The basic confrontation which seemed to be colonialism versus anti-colonialism, indeed capitalism versus socialism, is already losing its importance. What matters today, the issue which blocks the horizon, is the need for a redistribution of wealth. Humanity will have to address this question, no matter how devastating the consequences may be.”Frantz Fanon

The true value and who runs it is proven when the former head of the Commonwealth for decades has been Queen Elisabeth II, which of yesterday put the mantle of leadership to her son Prince Charles of Wales. The Statement from ‘ Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting 2018 – Leaders’ Statement’ said: “We recognise the role of The Queen in championing the Commonwealth and its peoples. The next Head of the Commonwealth shall be His Royal Highness Prince Charles, The Prince of Wales” (Commonwealth, 20.04.2018).

We can also know the perspective the Great Britain has for the organization, as Boris Johnson wrote so clearly in March 2018: “The good news is that when we leave the EU, we will regain the power to sign free trade agreements with our Commonwealth friends, allowing the UK to make the most of thriving markets. Brexit will give us the ability to open a new era of friendship with countries across the world. A key theme of the London summit will be how to boost trade within the Commonwealth. We’ll also discuss how to improve security co-operation and take joint action to protect the world’s oceans, bearing in mind that the Commonwealth includes island states in the Pacific, the Indian Ocean and the Caribbean” (Boris Johnson – ‘Commonwealth has key role to play in the bright future for Britain: article by Boris Johnson’ 12.03.2018, Foreign & Commonwealth Office (FCO)).

It shows that the United Kingdom own problems and issues is key for the Summit. The others are more a circus that the old empire can play into it. That happen and the Commonwealth Declaration on the 20th April 2018 named ‘Declaration on the Commonwealth Connectivity Agenda for Trade and Investment’ part of it says: “We, the Heads of Government representing member countries of the Commonwealth and one third of the world’s population recognise international trade and investment

as an engine for generating inclusive and participative economic growth and a means to deliver the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development” (…) “In particular, we recognise the importance of the multilateral trading system in ensuring the integration of small, vulnerable and least developed countries and countries in sub-Saharan Africa, the Caribbean and the Pacific into the world economy, and welcome initiatives which will support greater and more effective participation of these countries in international trade” (…) “To promote the realisation of these goals, we hereby launch the Commonwealth Connectivity Agenda for Trade and Investment. This Agenda will be guided by the principles that: co-operation should be pragmatic and practical, leading to credible results; take into account regional integration initiatives; take into account the needs of small and vulnerable economies and least developed countries; avoid duplication with initiatives where other organisations are already working; add value in areas of engagement; and adopt a progressive approach towards a long term vision for closer trade and investment ties. It should also recognise the vital role of the private sector in delivering the 2030 Agenda and facilitating the promotion of the blue and green economy” (Commonwealth – ‘Declaration on the Commonwealth Connectivity Agenda for Trade and Investment’ 20.04.2018).

We can see that Boris Johnson’s goals for the Commonwealth Head of Government Meeting (CHOGM) appeared on the last day, yesterday, as this declaration is to anticipate the Commonwealth secretariat and the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) will work on this now. To make sure the former Colonies are more connected. Not only to themselves through trade, but also to the United Kingdom. This is to give the United Kingdom bigger trade and partners through the use of the former colonies. To look at it differently, is to be naive. The other agreements is to make the public perception positive, but this here was to grease the wheels of United Kingdom, who are soon losing the trade-agreements through the membership of European Union, because of their silly decision to leave the Union.

We can see that the Commonwealth all benefits the United Kingdom and the others just has a place multi-nationally to be represented, though a loose organization, that isn’t to formal. But is a place to make them look better and get exposure through the perspective of their former colonial master. That is why they still has the inter-connected ministry FCO. It is a reason why even Zimbabwean Non-Governmental Organization was petitions the Department for International Development (DFID), so the former colony could have funds to hold Presidential Candidate National Television Debate before the General Election later in the year.

Well, that was a sidetrack, but very fitting. Because, the Commonwealth, still seems like a UK based organization, where it is all because of the mercy of the UK. The Commonwealth communiques, declarations and the meetings is because of UK leaders. Not because of the Kenyan President wanted it or the Indian one wanted some. We know there are someone even questioning it, the Bangladesh PM has been stating this today:

LONDON, April 21, 2018 (BSS)- Seeking inclusion of representative from Asia in the High Level Group to review the Commonwealth Secretariat’s Governance, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina yesterday suggested making the Group more representative with inclusion of member states of different regions. “We value the knowledge and expertise of the Secretariat for furthering work of the Commonwealth. However, we believe that views of the member states through appropriate representation, is equally important,” she said” (Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha – ‘PM suggests making CW high-level group more representative’ 21.04.2018).

This is what I started it, and it is made like this because the Commonwealth are made for the needs of United Kingdom, then the second interests. That is why the head of the Commonwealth has to be the Royalty of the UK. Now it is the Prince of Wales, which was nudged in by the Queen. The same happen to Prince Harry, who was appointed by the Queen to become the Commonwealth Youth Ambassador. We can see that the Commonwealth is a UK enterprise. The view can be seen that way, the way the Royal family has key roles and that the FCO is involved. Therefore, the meetings and statements coming from Boris Johnson with everyone he could. Making photo-ups with anyone he could during the CHOGM.

We will clearly see the Commonwealth Secretariat work on the Declaration, especially now that the UK is gearing up for the Brexit and leaving the Union. They need new secure trading partners and what better, than using the informal body of Commonwealth to get trade with. That is what even Johnson has been writing and proves his ideas. That is why he has been so diplomatic and kind with words. Because some of the nations and state leaders he has meet these days, he has written in the past ill-words of their republics and their kind. Therefore, we know he has sudden swift change of interests. That interests being the benefit of London and not of the former colonies.

The Commonwealth seems more like a savior and needed trade-partners right now, because of the problems coming with the loss of the EU membership. FCO and Commonwealth member-states with this declaration are opening for negotiations. Something that Johnson has been hoping for all along. Since he wanted that and hoped that CHOGM would deliver. However, it did that in some respect with the Declaration.

Seemingly again the Commonwealth is made for the benefit of the UK and their needed gains. If it was otherwise, than the Bangladesh PM wouldn’t asked for what she did after the CHOGM. That proves the problems within the Commonwealth Secretariat and with the Declaration itself. Since in that one in question isn’t mentioned even directly in the declaration.

Hope I am wrong, but as long the British Royalty is running it and is the heads of it. Their interests will be in line of London, not being for all the members of the Commonwealth. To think otherwise to be naive. Peace.

Eritrea: Statement of ELS on the Protest of October 31 (02.11.2017)

The Eritrean Law Society (ELS) is closely observing developments that have led to, and that have followed after, the unprecedented civilian protest of 31 October 2017, which occurred in the heart of the capital city of Eritrea. The protest was prompted by the announcement of a drastic government decision that affected the status of educational establishments administered by Eritrean religious institutions. Another major motive for the protest is the arbitrary arrest of respected elders and spiritual leaders, notably Haji Mussa Mohammed Nur, who strongly opposed the government decision.

Although the details of causalities are not yet fully known, ELS is concerned by the fact that brute force, including live ammunition, was used to suppress the protest, which was nothing more than a peaceful demonstration against a drastic government measure affecting the lives of thousands of people. In our view, the protest signifies one fundamental reality. In today’s Eritrea, citizens have no choice of whatsoever nature in pursuing their individual and group aspirations, life plans, goals, and purposes. Eritreans do not also have access to independent and impartial institutions, including courts of law that can safeguard their fundamental rights and freedoms in the event these essential entitlements are wantonly violated by government authorities.

History dictates that no population can be ruled forever under the yoke of unbearable authoritarianism. There is an urgent need in Eritrea for a full return to a system of governance based on constitutional order, the requirements of democratic accountability, and respect for the rule of law, including the protection of fundamental rights and freedoms of the Eritrean people. ELS would like to take this occasion to make a call on the international community and those who can play a role by pushing for a full return to a democratic system of governance in Eritrea.

Meanwhile, the following reminder is also important for all peace-loving and justice-seeking Eritreans. We shall stay the course and remain vigilant against all sorts of divisive and cheap political machinations orchestrated by the authoritarian regime in Eritrea, its brazen apologists and messengers. It is always important to remember that the regime will make continuous recourse to methods that promote its narrow political agenda as well as frustrate the momentum ushered by the protest of 31 October.

UN Special Expert report of June 2017 reveals the hardships of the citizens in Eritrea!

The government of Eritrea is usually keeping it low-key and not telling their stories. The nation which has since liberation from Ethiopia since 1993. Therefore, the long-term stay of the Eritrean People’s Liberation Front (EPLF) and their President Isias Afwerki, who is still in power. His use of the power and keeping it all close, is the reason that the state of Eritrea is like it is. The oppression of their own citizens and total control. That is the reason for the fleeing Eritreans, as well as the military service and tight-control of the industries. It is all in service of the Central Leadership in Asmara. Which doesn’t concern the citizens, they are being used by the EPLF and their needs. Therefore, every time a United Nations report comes out, it reveals new aspects and shows by the admission of the diaspora who are telling the stories that needs to be told. Since the media, the government and all parts of society in Eritrea is silenced by the President Afwerki. Take a look!

Support of Al-Shabaab and North Korea:

In 2009, the United Nations Security Council imposed an arms embargo on Eritrea, primarily in response to Eritrea’s suspected support for Al Shabaab in Somalia. In its most recent report, the Monitoring Group on Somalia and Eritrea stated that it had found no firm evidence of Eritrea’s support for Al Shabaab. It also described the use of Eritrean land, airspace and territorial waters by the Arab coalition supporting the anti-Houthi military campaign in Yemen, as well as the construction of a permanent military base at Assab International Airport and a new permanent seaport adjacent to it.3 In November 2016, the Security Council noted the finding about the lack of evidence pointing to Eritrean support for Al Shabaab, but expressed concern for ongoing Eritrean support for other regional armed groups and lack of cooperation with the Security Council; it extended the arms embargo on Eritrea” (…) “February 2017, the Panel of Experts supporting the Security Council Sanctions Committee on the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) accused Eritrea of violating the arms embargo by buying military communications material from the DPRK. On 21 March 2017, the United States imposed sanctions pursuant to the Iran, North Korea, and Syria Nonproliferation Act (INKSNA) on the Eritrean Navy and any successor, subunit, or subsidiary thereof for prohibited transfer to or acquisition from DPRK of goods, services, or technology controlled under multilateral control lists” (Keetharuth, P: 5, 2017).

Arbitrary Arrests:

During the reporting period, the Special Rapporteur continued to receive reports of new cases of arbitrary arrest and detention. The reasons for the arrests appear to be those previously identified by the Commission of Inquiry, namely attempting to evade military service or trying to assist a family member in doing so; trying to leave the country; practicing an unauthorised religion; or offending a high-ranking Government or official of the People’s Front for Democracy and Justice, the sole political party in the country. The Special Rapporteur has received no official communication indicating that the Government has released arbitrarily detained prisoners or that it has provided information about the fate of high profile individuals subject to enforced disappearance” (Keetharuth, P: 6, 2017).

Food Supplies:

While some interlocutors told the Special Rapporteur that they had witnessed an active economic life during visits to Eritrea, with thriving markets and well-stocked shops, she heard from Eritreans in the diaspora that their relatives back home are struggling to meet their basic needs. While they confirmed the availability of food, they indicated that many households were unable to afford adequate and sufficient basic supplies, and were trying to cope with acute water shortages, especially in Asmara. As noted above, the recent UNICEF report confirmed this, indicating that half of the children are stunted. Reportedly, increasing numbers of people are leaving drought-affected regions in search of better living conditions. The ability to purchase food and other basic items has also been hampered by cash withdrawal limits which are still in place following the Nakfa currency exchange programme introduced by the Government at the end of 2015” (Keetharuth, P: 8, 2017).

Internet Freedom:

Since October 2016, reportedly, internet cafes must now require that customers register before being permitted to use the internet, allowing for the tracking of their browsing history. If confirmed, this new regulation would have an impact on the conduct of internet users and further restrict freedom of expression. In addition, frequent power cuts and very slow connections interfere with the use of internet” (Keetharuth, P: 8, 2017).

I think this things says a lot. The admissions and the connections to rouge elements prove the issues of Eritrea. This are just a few of them, there been more admissions in the past of the breaches of Human Rights, the lack of transparency and justice for the citizens. This proves the grand-issues of the Eritrean government and how they violate their own people. Peace.

Joint NGO letter on Renewing the Mandate of the UN Special Rapporteur on the Situation of Human Rights in Eritrea (05.06.2017)

Geneva, 5 June 2017

RE: Renewing the mandate of the UN Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in Eritrea

Your Excellencies,

We, the undersigned civil society organisations, write to urge your delegation to co-sponsor a resolution renewing the mandate of the UN Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in Eritrea at the forthcoming 35th Session of the UN Human Rights Council. In view of the ongoing crimes under international law, including torture, enslavement and enforced disappearances, and violations of fundamental freedoms committed in Eritrea, the Special Rapporteur’s mandate remains an indispensable mechanism to advance the protection and promotion of human rights in Eritrea.

The mandate of the Special Rapporteur was established at the 20th UN Human Rights Council Session in 2012 to monitor the human rights situation in Eritrea. From June 2014-June 2016, the mandate was also represented on the Commission of Inquiry on Human Rights in Eritrea (CoI). The mandate of the Special Rapporteur was extended in July 2016 to follow-up on the recommendations of the CoI. It has been instrumental in monitoring the dire situation on the ground, highlighting on-going violations and the failure to implement the recommendations of the CoI and in providing a crucial platform to help amplify the voices and concerns of victims.

The findings of the CoI and UN Special Rapporteur reveal that the Eritrean authorities have continued to impose a broad range of unwarranted restrictions on fundamental human rights, precipitating mass migration, including of unaccompanied children. Despite commitments by the State to reduce national service to 18 months, indefinite national service and forced labor persist throughout the country. [1] Persons who attempt to avoid military conscription, take refuge abroad, practice an unsanctioned religion, or who criticise government officials continue to be arrested and imprisoned for lengthy periods. [2]

The absence of an independent judiciary means that victims of these human rights violations have no recourse to justice at home. As a result, in Eritrea impunity persists and those who have been subjected to enforced disappearances remain unaccounted for.

In light of these concerns, we respectfully request your delegation to co-sponsor a resolution during the 35th UN HRC session that renews the mandate of the UN Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in Eritrea, provides the mandate holder with all necessary support, and urges the Government of Eritrea to cooperate with the mandate holder including allowing unencumbered access to the country.
