RDC: Lettre ouverte au Colonel Charles Sematama et aux cadres de l’AFC/M23 (Twirwaneho) a Minembwe, Sud-Kivu (21.09.2025)

“Just like in 2016, we are not going to put a presidential candidate. We want to redirect our party resources into positions we are going to win. The next general election is not going to be about political parties; it is going to be about the new Uganda. So, for us we want to prepare DP for the new Uganda. We think, if possible, we can even support the sitting government to continue with its candidate (Museveni) as we prepare for what is going to come as DP. We don’t want to waste time in the next election” – Democratic Party Vice-President Fed Mukasa Mbidde (22.09.2025)
The Democratic Party (DP) of 2025 could just become a part of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) organization and be a branch of it. The “No Surprise” Agreement between the party has really unravelled it and proves now the usage of it. The DP party is just the vessel for the leadership to secure positions and offices but not being a threat or even opposing the ruling regime.
The DP has become the “Good DP” and they are serving the interest of the NRM. The DP isn’t challenging the NRM or trying to test Museveni. The party itself is just becoming a small fraction and supporting organization of the President. Norbert Mao and everyone else in just trying to secure themselves and not galvanizing it.
This is a stagnation and a forced recognition of the marriage made with NRM. The DP is just a party who is in a beneficial arrangement with the NRM. That’s why it does this and it will be shielded from the worst. As the regime will see it is a “competitor” but also allow it. Just for the sense of multi-partyism, but we know it is all a game. A prefixed and predetermined score, which ensures the DP a few slots and hegemony, but not a threat to the NRM in the slightest. As they know the DP is good and they are following the correct line.
Mao and Mbidde is now practically a part of the NRM. They will not challenge or try to take something from the NRM. Their DP is walking softly ahead of the 2026 General Election. They are standing by Museveni and his candidacy. That’s just show their sentiment and that they are not an opposition party.
For everyone following this isn’t shocking, because the DP is drifting and becoming a natural part of the NRM. We are just seeing it happening in real time. Mao and his ilk are just being used, and they are giddy about it. Thinking they are clever, but the moment their usefulness is over. The NRM will drop them and never look back.
The DP party should be reminded of just that, but I wouldn’t count on it. Peace.

The Electoral Commission has sent out a letter at the last minute to the independent Presidential Candidate Moses Byamugisha. The Former Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) activist and leader is now trailing, as he was early with the delivery of signatures to the EC. However, that didn’t mean they checked them or gave him a quick notification.
As a candidate he had already delivered these signatures on the 18th August 2025 and the response letter was written on the 21st September 2025 and given to him on the 22nd September 2025. Meanwhile he has just mere hours to catch on and get the revised signatures from various districts before delivering that again to the EC. If you are reading that correctly, an independent and single candidate are supposed to canvass and gather notarized signatures from several of districts within no time. That’s what the EC is doing to his candidacy and clearly is practically blocking him from running.
We know all of this is really weird as the Byamugisha claimed he had already 10,000 signatures and now his missing from over 60 districts. You can really wonder, who is lying and who is altering the landscape?
There is something shady when the EC couldn’t have done this earlier and given the candidate more time to secure what he needed. Instead, they are dropping this in the last minute and by doing so, practically stopping his candidacy. It’s like they blocking him from entering and not giving him a chance to be Presidential Candidate.
Byamugisha has been a vibrant activist and a foot-soldier for the FDC. A man who has fought on the side of Sam Mugumya and Dr. Kizza Besigye. That’s where he has fought for years and he often tried to get detained members and youth out of prison. This was a vital part of what he did, and he spread the message about the incarcerated prisoners of conscience and let people never forget about their plight. So he already knows the cost of fighting in the political field and how it is built against him. Byamugisha and the likes aren’t supposed to win or be able to play. That’s why the EC is doing this now.
They are just showing what they are willing to do. Byamugisha isn’t alone, as nearly every other candidate is scrambling. It is only the FDC and the NRM who has accepted signatures. The rest must run against the clock and fix it in the last minute. That is a deliberate act, and we can all understand the ploy here. It is for a reason and everyone knows. Peace.

“Resolution on DF Presidential Candidate; The DF National Council is concerned that Presidential elections since 1996 are organised in a skewed manner to advantage a particular candidate-Yoweri Museveni. They are a mere ritual with pre-determined result. To participate without addressing the flaws would be to lend credibility to a sham process. Therefore in view of the foregoing, it is resolved that DF shall not present a candidate at the level of President at the 2026 general elections” (Democratic Front, 20.09.2025).
The newly minted Democratic Front and their resolutions ahead of 2026 General Elections are telling. That it is focusing in getting Members of Parliament and elected representatives across the Local Government. It is not focusing on or trying even to field a Presidential Candidate. Neither is the party vouching for another one or trying to build a coalition candidate with anyone else.
That’s really the real difference with People’s Front for Freedom (PFF) as they didn’t field a Presidential Candidate, but they are either standing by the National Unity Platform (NUP) candidate or the Alliance for National Transformation (ANT) candidate, which means the party will back and be campaigning with another party as a joint venture. The DF is just backing out and giving up.
Yes, the Presidential race a default race and the DF isn’t lying in their statement on the matter. However, the same can be said about the other races. The NRM won’t allow other parties to get a majority of the Parliament. Neither would the NRM allow other parties to have a total control or a say across the nation in the local government either. Therefore, the DF is taking people for fools here.
Mpuuga knows all of this and think his clever. It isn’t even funny. Mabarizi can be funny. Other Presidential Candidates with no structure or party, whom comes out of nowhere can make jokes. Nevertheless, Mpuuga isn’t one of them. His supposed to be a seasoned and wise leader. Regardless of that, he is just making a fool out of himself.
He know Kabuleta, Mbabazi and others failed before him. He knows the journey is painful and he most likely saw how others has paid a price and gotten nothing in return. That’s why he rather do something else and build his party. Meanwhile, no one is really trusting the process or the way the DF is built either.
I cannot believe them either. A bunch of journeymen who are there to sow discord and be thorn in the flesh of National Unity Platform (NUP). This party is only there to distort the playing-field of the opposition and weaken it as an advantage to the National Resistance Movement (NRM). Mpuuga is a pawn and reckless one at that. He will lose everything and all things considered, this is just a foolish enterprise.
Mpuuga isn’t as smart as they wanted him to seem. If he had been, he would have begged for mercy and followed party-line instead of being rogue. At that point he would have a proper home and possibly have a chance of reviving his career. Now his selling a lost hope and soldiering on into oblivion. That’s where his heading and he don’t even get it.
He might act like a big-shot… but his another pawn played by bigger men. Peace.
