Opinion: Besigye’s noble approach to 2021

We are at the crossroads when the junta is organising elections to legitimize themselves. In 2016, I was engaging two gears, one for elections and another for defiance/fighting. That is not very efficient. Election gears are our Plan A, the fighting gears are our plan B. And Plan B is quite wide and involving. It’s my humble decision that I have intensively discussed with my colleagues that we get some body to lead Plan A and you leave Plan B for me. Never ever imagine that I can leave the struggle. Never” – Dr. Kizza Besigye (19.08.2020).

No one can ever say that Dr. Kizza Besigye is predictable or a typical politician. The main opposition candidate in 4 campaigns. A man who has been in the trenches. A man who has a record of amount of arrests, charges and a few treason charges as well.

This man has seen plenty of prisons, days in house-arrest and know the price of standing up against the government. The man who has used all his time since the fall-out. Been principal about the peaceful transition and battling to end the National Resistance Movement and the reign of Museveni.

Today is not different there, but his vouching for two of the candidates for the Presidency in the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC). This being Birigwa and Oboi Amuriat. These two are the two official candidates, but Byamugisha should also be counted in. Even as the former Presidential Candidate didn’t mention him today.

Besigye is doing the right thing. His proving his character and his stature. He still wants to achieve them same goal, but not having himself as a price. The freedom fighter and resilient opposition will continue to battle it head-on.

But the ghost of his fifth candidacy vanished today. The ones saying he would copy the President for Life is proven again. He has done that with stepping down as Party President and now not taking the mantle again as the Presidential Flag-Bearer. Now, the party have decide what goals and what it wants to achieve. The character in play is very different and who knows what path they will choose.

Besigye did the right thing. Another honourable act by the man. A man who has fought so tirelessly for this cause. His like Moses going in the desert and never getting the ability to reach Canaan’s land. He just get to see into it, but never live in it. The same seems to be happening with Besigye.

At this point, Besigye is not ending. He will still have influence and his voice will matter. His maybe not on the campaign trail as a Flag-Bearer. However, his will and determination in combination with his coordinated plans to undermine the government. Who knows what sort of plans to usher in. Now, that he doesn’t have to beg venues, travel across the republic and give speeches in every district across the Republic.

Besigye has shown his wise ways by backing down. However, his not giving up, but tooling up another way. Don’t underestimate this, but his proving this again. That the cause isn’t about Besigye, but its about the cause. That is the sort of man Besigye is and that why he deserves credit.

If he wasn’t a threat and wasn’t someone the government feared. Then they wouldn’t limit this man’s movement and this man’s opportunity to do his party works. That’s the proof of how far reaching this man is. Peace.

A look into three of the Presidential Nominees from the FDC…

Wasswa Birigwa, Patrick Oboi Amuriat and Moses Byamugisha is people within the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) who are vying for the highest position in the Republic. They are picking nomination forms and running for the Presidency.

Ambassador Wasswa Birigwa, the Party Chairman only turned to the FDC in 2015. So, its not like the man his been a long term ally of the party. He has been close to the President and his team. That’s why his appointed and had roles in the National Resistance Movement (NRM). It is not like the man has a been there long to show his credentials as a man for the FDC.

Patrick Oboi Amuriat (POA) has been the Party President since late 2017. Before that been the MP between 2001 to 2016. Been the part of the National Campaign Team in 2016 and believed in the Defiance campaign. A man of loyalty to Besigye and the cause of FDC.

Moses Byamugisha have been a Besigye aide and youth mobilizers in the party. His been consistent with his views and perspectives. The one that aimed first of the three. The others have waited to the last minute. Moses is clear about his vision and is using his youth teams to build a campaign ahead. It seems like his thinking ahead, as he is even going after the signatures to stand as “independent”.

We can also wonder if Nathan Nandala-Mafabi would stand as well? He would also be a man for the job. The experience in Parliament and knows how to express his vision to the public. Mafabi has it in him, but wonder if the party would take a man like that.

The FDC men of these are POA, Byamugisha and Mafabi. Birigwa haven’t been there that logn and should rest with his role as a Chairman. Harold Kaija would have more of a standing in comparison to Birigwa. Therefore, for me his a non-starter and someone who isn’t it in for the cause.

POA could become the Presidential Candidate. However, that will marginalize the party. The man has wishes and outbursts, that isn’t always that candid or calculated. He knows how to gain attention, but not always in the positive manner.

Byamugisha have another sort of way. His more of a young Muntu. Still, his defiant and a man for the cause. His not a softie, but a slow builder. Very direct and knows how to push. His the man whose been on the front-line and taken care of the ones arrested. Been a voice for the youths and the activists. A man who knows the party and support party objectives. That is why his a hopeful and a man who shouldn’t be neglected.

Mafabi haven’t taken the nomination forms. He hasn’t even said he wants it. Even as there been voices for him and his candidacy. His a man of the party. Mafabi is vocal and can conduct his affairs. There is really nothing ill to say about him. However, hard to know if he can be easily a man for full front mobilization. As his a sort of moderate, but still shows his capacities with all the years in politics.

The FDC has people who has abilities and capacities to be a Presidential nominee. They have the characters and the ones who knows the cost of doing so. They have also followed on the trial of Beisgye and know how things goes. They have been in the trenches and seen the reality of the battleground ahead of the polls. These people knows this…

I rather want to see Moses than POA. Rather see Mafabi than POA. POA can gain attention, but his personality would be harsh for plenty. POA has the right mind, but his way of expressing it is so unpolished. You need some filters before speaking. That does the other fellas have. Though I don’t trust Birigwa at all. That is however how I look at it. Maybe, someone else would look differently and maybe he would even prove it too me.

Nevertheless, want to wish the all the best. A luta continua. Peac.e

Opinion: Byamugisha will be more lonely than Muntu…

Today, Moses Byamugisha have announced that his running for the presidency, but not through the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) as previously announced. He has other plans, certainly in regards, that ithere is talk of Dr. Kizza Besigye running again as the Presidential Candidate in the FDC. Nothing of this is shocking, but inevitable. Byamugisha had to see that one coming. As he knows the party and their movements better than anyone. He has been working there for ages and therfore, this move was awaited for his part. Especially, for a person wanting to aim at the Presidency.

Byamugisha knows the FDC very well. He has been a mobilizer and helped the youths. Activists across the Republic knows him. Moses is well-known because of this. He has sought people arrested for their political activism and the former aide to Besigye.

Moses knows what happens when you loose out and seen others fall-out of love too. Byamugisha will be lonely out there. He will not have the machinery and support system of the FDC. Moses will be like Elton Joseph Mabirizi. Another independent candidate, but with some fellow supporters from the FDC.

That is why his a like a underling of Mugisha Muntu, the former Party President, but now Flag-Bearer of the Alliance of National Transformation (ANT). The New Formation and the new outfit for one man who never became the Flag-Bearer in the FDC.

Byamugisha will feel the blunt loneliness out there. After all the years in the FDC. When he stands as an Independent. He will not have the party behind him. FDC will uses their machinery on their candidates and flag-bearers. This is something Moses knows well, his been in the party for years. Not like they will give him energy or a time of day. Neither does they have a agreement with him like they have with Erias Lukwago. No, his on the whim on this one.

Muntu has had time to prepare for his departure and started to build his party in his image. ANTs are working and they are following whatever ideas Muntu has. Byamugisha have just launched the idea and today told he wouldn’t run for the FDC.

Byamugisha is saying what most of us knows. That there is limitations to ambition in the two biggest parties of the Republic. In both NRM and FDC there are two kings. They are the natural flag-bearers. Moses cannot stand, but he can be an aide.

However, Byamugisha will struggle. A sudden lone soldier without the generals or the majors. Moses will really feel lonely. He might act brave. Be a Spartan and wanting to beat the Greek. Nevertheless, Moses will not feel it like that. He goes both against the President and the authorities. A man who knows what Besigye has gone through over the years. A man who has seen what happens to activists and their battle against the oppression.

Therefore, Moses knows all of this. The difference between him and Muntu is that Muntu has a party. Not a giant party, but a starting organization, but Moses has only himself. Like I said, he might get someone with him, but nothing that will be working like when he was in the FDC.

Byamugisha have left the nest to early here. He went for the highest office to quick and without a machinery. This will be bloody. Muntu have some buddies and a sort of party at this point. Byamugisha has himself and his attempt to victory.

Moses will severe a loss. The loss just depends self inflicted injury. Not to forget how much damage he will make to the cause. His diplomatic about the severing of ties with the FDC and not running there.

However, not like Moses can make his own party now before 2021. Muntu has had some time, something Byamugisha doesn’t have. We have to wait and see. The only thing we do know is that this journey will be lonely for the man and he will have little to no support. Peace.

Opinion: Moses Byamugisha don’t become a punchline like Mabirizi

The ones that remember the independent Presidential Candidate Elton Joseph Mabirizi. He was a punchline and a joke during the Presidential Campaigns during the General Elections of 2016. Now, the previously trying to be a Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) Moses Byamugisha. He has walked in the shadows of other leaders within the FDC, but still has a positive standing there. Worked tirelessly for the activists and youth organizations of the FDC.

Byamugisha has criss-crossed the Republic doing this. He has gone to places where people been detained for the FDC campaigning and fought to get the youths released. Therefore, he has earned his place and hasn’t come out of nowhere.

Still, he should be careful as he now ushers his Presidential Aspirations for 2021. Not because his young and such. He is already mature in the game of politics. His seen and been in the line of fire. As an FDC Official, he knows this and therefore, its daring for him to go out now. Especially, if he plans to challenge Dr. Kizza Besigye and Bobi Wine. Since, he hasn’t the flair they got. But, he got to start somewhere

We know he doesn’t have a big enough political standing in his own party, as both him and Mugisha Muntu both lost to Partick Amuriat Oboi in that election. Even though that starts to be a while ago.

I am wondering if he plans to start his own political pressure group or going independent. Since this is a daring move of him. I admire his aspiration and his will power. But this will cost him. If he makes weak statements and speeches like Mabirizi, he will be youthful punchline this election. He will be the minion fighting kings.

The ideal and will is good in itself. He has aged in politics and been an operative for long. Not like his walking into this naively or blind. Moses knows this and knows parts of this. As his seen what happens and how things are. Therefore, shouldn’t he try to associate himself with others for a while longer. Instead of throwing everything at something that is initially impossible.

It is impossible, because its not like Museveni will loose in 2021. Its not happening, because of popularity or ability to get public engaged. It is because the system is all his and all men are loyal to him. If they doesn’t praise the ground he walks on, they will not get an envelope at the end of the month. Therefore, the costs of standing is not only foolish for anyone.

If your not doing it prove the system is rigged, that you hadn’t a shot in the first place and the ones standing wants to get validated for the public. Because, the race is already closed and we knows whose winning.

That is why I wonder why a man with this potential wants to put his chips in now. He plays with likes of Besigye, Bobi Wine and Museveni. It is not like he has that standing. His more known than Mabirizi was before the campaigns. However, he still not a big-man, but one that has the potential to be there in the future.

Byamugisha, don’t become a punchline. Don’t use this platform for useless spins on social media and in the media. Your hard work and dedication to the youth over the years. Deserves much more. You could even easily run for MP and be respected without any issues in a heartbeat. Like several of the coordinators of the Activists 4 Change (A4C) did in their heyday.

Therefore, this is just me thinking, but not being negative. Just paying my respect to your actions. As you have to answer for these. Just use it wisely, we don’t want remembered like Mabirizi. Feel me? Peace.
