Uganda: President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni letter to Attorney General Kirowa Kiwanuka – Re: Service Awards to Parliamentary Commissioners (03.05.2024)

Opinion: Mengo cannot save Mpuuga…

Happening Now: The Commissioner of Parliament, Owek. Mathias Mpuuga together with Busiro South MP Owek. Medard Lubega Sseggona currently in a closed door meeting with the Katikkiro Owek. Charles Peter Mayiga at Bulange, Mengo” (GSTV Africa, 03.04.2024)

I’ll repeat it often: politics isn’t a game. Leaders who treat it that way disgust me. Politics involves the heavy burden of leadership since incompetent leadership has the power to destroy entire nations and claim lives. Therefore, in the event that conflicts emerge among you, try to find a solution because the Ugandan people look to you and your leaders for guidance. Don’t let little things pull you away from your main objectives” – Katikkiro Charles Peter Mayiga (03.04.2024).

We know that former Leader of Opposition and currently Commissioner of Parliament, Mathias Mpuuga has used Mengo and the Baganda Kingdom as shield for his actions. He has used his loyalty to the Kingdom over the ability to adhere to requests of actions from his party. This has ended in him being suspended as the Deputy President of Central Region (Buganda). Therefore, the acts of the “service award” is having consequences, but shows that Mpuuga has allies.

We are now seeing Mpuuga walking around with Speaker Among to Mengo. He didn’t attend the day in advance with the party he represents, National Unity Platform (NUP). The MP instead went with the Speakers and the leaders of the Parliament. Which is yet another sign of defiance against his own party.

Mpuuga MP shows his arrogance in regards to his actions. The party asked for him to resign from the Office of the Commissioner. That is something he won’t do and he has come with several allegations, which he never addressed before it started to burn on his feet. This shows that the supposed alleged illicit activities with in the NUP. He hasn’t showed this before, but did that when the party asked for reasons to let him stay in Office. However, he isn’t turned it on the party.

Now we see why, because his aligned with the Speaker and the Prime Minister of Buganda Kingdom. The Katikkiro is now undermining the efforts of the NUP and says it should mediate. As the “service award” is just a small matter. That just shows that the Katikkiro wants to muffle and stop the internal process of the NUP. This is helping Mpuuga and his allies.

We know Mpuuga MP wants to be seen as a Owek and a respected politician. They are selling him and making it seem like everything is dandy. You can wonder what is in it for the Katikkiro. As his using the influence of the Kingdom and trying to make Mpuuga seem more relevant. That’s what is the message, as his holding closed meetings and selling shirts to the Kabaka Marathon. Therefore, the investment into him is significant.

Mpuuga should be grateful … and feel lucky to have the allies currently. Things aren’t going better in the party and he hasn’t handled things internally. Neither has he acted upon the requests. This just show the defiance of him and his boosting ego.

Mpuuga MP is now an asset of the Buganda kingdom. His their Owek and the Speaker is vouching for him too. They are all in cahoot and working in coordination, as if they are earning on the demise and weakening of NUP. That’s how this is looking and it’s not brilliant politicking. As the Katikkiro is losing out and supporting a corrupt politician.

I am just wondering what the Katikkiro is getting out of the alliance with Mpuuga MP. Because, right now it is only a hot potato and not a winning ticket. If the Katikkiro thinks he can clean the image and make Mpuuga ready for another election. The Katikkiro is wrong there too, as the MP himself isn’t helping his case and no matter how eloquent you are… the actions speaks louder than words. The statements and the letters aren’t helping him either.

That’s why it’s tragic that the Katikkiro is now using his office to safeguard and shield Mpuuga. This isn’t what we want to see and it’s despicable. Mayiga should know better, but apparently he doesn’t and it shows. Peace.

National Unity Platfrom (NUP): Mathias Mpuuga MP letter to Dr. Lina Zedriga – “Re: Notice to Show Cause Against Impending Call” (13.03.2024)

Opinion: Mpuuga’s defiance isn’t endearing Part III

I appreciate and understand that you are under siege. I don’t know how to help you and support you. In view of the contents of the impugned document, that the person suspended failed to supply a satisfactory explanation, yet the same person was earlier on reported to have confessed and apologised, I don’t know how to rescue you and the party from the captors. The prevailing desperate situation and the circumstances we find ourselves in, will afford me more time and space to consult with the rank and file of the party for a way forward. Accept once again my sympathies for the unyielding siege that has impaired judgement at the highest echelons of the party” – Mathias Mpuuga MP (29.03.2024)

Yesterday was a proof that the former Leader of Opposition and current Commissioner of Parliament, Mathias Mpuuga believes his bigger than his party. His actions speaks louder than words. His resilience and lack of reading the room.

That’s why his undermining the party, which gave him a second life. A party that entrusted him and gave him confidence. Some call him wise, seasoned and a clever politician. However, this last month we have only seen a greedy politician living in denial. A man who doesn’t take accountability and think he is entitled to eat. That’s who Mpuuga has become.

Mpuuga is a far-cry from the man of the days of the Activists for Change (A4C). A man who looked at the Parliament and cried out loud of their impunity, corruption and misuse of office. Now that he has entered the August House and gotten into Office. He himself became like the people he protested against and wanted ousted. However, he thinks speaking in tongue can save him.

Mpuuga MP better act swiftly, as the messaging he is using isn’t saving him. Neither is it wise. It is just showing that he blames others and doesn’t look at himself. He wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for the “service award”. Mpuuga wouldn’t be suspended and be handled by the Party President if he didn’t act accordingly.

Mpuuga MP was asked to apologize and step down. Nevertheless, the month has passed by and he has done neither. The Party has tried to exchange him with another MP, but the Speaker is blocking that person from getting in his stead. So, the Office is Parliament is sustained, but not by the party his representing, but by the powerful in government. Which is ironic, when his supposed to be an opposition of the set government.

Mpuuga MP has lost face and lost all credibility. A man who had a future, but sold it for a big envelope. He traded his legacy and legitimacy over a big bank. That’s who Mpuuga became and spinning the blame on Bobi Wine isn’t a winning ticket. It just shows that he undermines the authority of the party he represents and doesn’t want to follow party line when it doesn’t suit him.

This haven’t been a good look for Mpuuga. The National Unity Platform (NUP) will live on this scandal and tragic saga. It is one man who defied the party and acted above it. His a rebel and a man of the government now. That’s why he can skirt the obligations given to him and hide behind the Speaker. This isn’t a sign of strength, but of a man who is willing to sell his soul for a few shillings.

That’s who Mpuuga MP is… and we can all see it now. It is tragic that this man was in the trenches and fought men like he became. Mpuuga said we needed other type of leaders a decade ago and now he became just like the ones he fought. Peace.

Alliance for National Transformation (ANT): End of the Year 2023 Message (31.12.2023)

Opinion: Mwiru is becoming a journeyman…

“If you fail to solve your problems in the bedroom as a man and a woman, you have a problem. Paul Mwiru, you will keep running until you die. Even twins don’t think alike. We must deal with internal and external struggles. Does this mean that if they get problems in ANT, he will run away? You must remain in the struggle” – Nathan Nandala Mafabi (Muhamadi Matovu – ‘Nandala Mafabi: “People want to see FDC dead, but it won’t happen”’, Nile Post, 10.07.2020).

Today we are seeing a deflection of someone who has moved parties a lot of late. He was an Member of Parliament, on the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) ticket at Jinja East. Alas, right now his without office and lacks the support he needs to return to the August House.

That’s why his shifting the parties. Even if he has been a loyal man to Gen. Mugisha Muntu. He was a part of the “New Formation” and later the Alliance for National Transformation (ANT). As the ANT went ahead for the 2021 elections, it wasn’t ready or had the popular narrative to get MPs elected. Mwiru went from a being to a former MP.

Mwiru wants a new dawn now and crosses to the biggest opposition party. It means his living his former ally and friend Muntu. He has spoken of relying on Muntu, but that is currently out of the picture.

Now Mwiru needs a new leader and new party to have a chance to return. He doesn’t want to be former MP but be an actual MP. That’s why his deflecting from ANT to NUP. ANT should feel the pain of this. His one of the big leaders that was part of the party from the onset. That’s why Mwiru was a part of the “New Formation”.

It seems like Mafabi will be right in the end that Mwiru will continue to deflect and change parties until his death. After leaving the FDC he will struggle to find a permanent home. He will be one of these politicians that seeks the best way to get back in office. The man won’t mind the party or the ideologies behind it. As long as he gets something in return. That’s why his joining the NUP now.

Mwiru isn’t joining NUP as a direct response to the way it wants to stop the dictatorship. Neither is it for his admiration of Bobi Wine or any of the leaders of the NUP party. No, his joining to get a safer journey ahead of the 2026 elections.

It is like Mwiru see the troublesome times ahead and knows the ANT party isn’t well established. His friend Muntu won’t give him enough edge or ability to return to Parliament. That’s why his ditching Muntu and ANT. He just seeking a soft return and leaving without much of a trace.

Mwiru did more in the FDC and has been less vocal as an ANT. That is what happens I suppose and you don’t get the spotlight as easy when your outside of office.

Paul Mwiru has to prove himself now. I hope the NUP think things through too. Not just accept anyone. As we are seeing how MPs are fleeing and joining MK Movement. That should be a sign that there are others who only uses the party and ditches it easily when the buck stops.

Time will tell… but I doubt this is the last party Mwiru will be a part of… Peace.

Opinion: Bwanika is ready to dip…

“Abed Bwanika threatens to quit NUP if constitutional reforms regulating elected leaders to two terms are not reconsidered. The Kimanya Kabonera MP spit fire on CBS over the weekend where he claimed the reforms will deny the party senior and experienced leaders like himself” (The Kampala Journal, 25.04.2023).

I am neither shocked nor surprised that this comes from Hon. Abed Bwanika. He has become a journeyman of sorts. Bwanika is the former three times Presidential Candidate. A man who has been on the ballot in 2006, 2011 and 2016. Also created a church and a political party. Before joining National Unity Platform (NUP).

Bwanika was the only independent candidate in 2006 but had already launched his People’s Development Party (PDP) by the 2011 elections. A party he ran on its platform until the 2016 elections. In the term after that he joined the DP Block and became a part of the new outfit. That happened in 2019 and he bolted from that and stood on the ballot for NUP in 2021 elections as an MP.

That just shows how swiftly everything changed and how he went from one outfit or party to another. He went from his own and became a part of the DP Block. However, when that didn’t go to plan. Bwanika left and found a safe haven in the NUP.

Now he is issuing grievances and coming with threats of leaving. Surely, if he leaves his just another journeyman and vagabond who flees the party. Another one of them who got hooked on the wave, but now see the reality of the party he entered. A man who couldn’t phantom that the party had principals and ideals to adhere too.

Bwanika has already tried to get into Presidency three times and finally entered office with the NUP. He has gotten the opportunity to be an MP and he got nothing to show from it. As an MP he hasn’t been vocal or caused a commotion. Neither is he causing a stir or even writing motions to get legislation done. Therefore, his just eating and enjoying the perks of the office without doing more work.

I’m not surprised that he was against the idea of two terms for elected officials within the NUP. He could just dip or ditch the party. Nevertheless, a man who was willing to stand three times for the Presidency and fails. He feels obligated to try more than ones in another office. That is just basic human behaviour. It would go against everything inside him to do otherwise.

Bwanika wants to represent and be a high ranking official. He finally has entered Parliament and with this party constitution. His only allowed to be the MP one more term. That means it is all ending soon and before he really gets to eat. When he has fought tooth and nail since 2006.

We know he can trade his ideals beliefs, because he has in the past sworn an affidavit in support of the elections in 2006 and in defence of Museveni. Therefore, he could easily be swayed again. It just shows how open policy the NUP has when they have allowed these characters to join and get to eat cake.

Bwanika should feel lucky and blessed to be where he is. Because, as a Presidential Candidate he was a joke. Now he finally has a voice and a party to reconcile with. A party that isn’t a briefcase one, but a legit one. That’s why he was able to be elected in the first place. Bwanika should pray to the Gods and be grateful.

Now he does the opposite and proves what sort of journeyman he is. Peace.

Opinion: Norbert Mao is a fallen soldier

The Democratic Party President Norbert Mao who has lead his party since 2010 and in 2022 is going on a war-path towards anyone in the opposition. Throwing tantrums and speaking of hypocrisy. While never taking into account his own actions and mischief, as his the superior and supposed great leader. Alas, there is the burden of proof and of thoughtfulness, as he has targeted the other opposition before… and he has never succeeded himself in his causes. Maybe that’s why his so bitter these days.

He should have a resounding legacy and merits to show for it. Mao has been leading a party for a decade and still has little results to show for. There has been little to none in concern to legislation, even less with the spark of flair or proof of validity of astonishing brinkmanship within the opposition on his behalf. If it had been so… he wouldn’t acted like he does these days.

It is a reason why he haven’t gained politically or become a bigger voice with time. As the Party President and DP seems to loose relevance. That his trying to spark it now is obvious. Just like tried to get anyone under his DP block, as a unified front and hoped Bobi Wine would tag along. Because, that would be like he ran around with Mbabazi in 2016.

Since we all know well by now that Mao isn’t the leader, the prospect or the majestic future of the Republic. His a glorified party leader, which resemble the same arrogance as previous presidential candidate Venansius Baryamureeba. Both are academic in their approach to the world, but oblivious to how to communicate their differences to public. That’s why they are not popular or have the ability to sell their narratives. This is why it’s easier to throw stones at Bobi Wine or Besigye, than trying to find solutions or even speak rational that makes sense. Since it’s cooler to sound eloquent and speaks the Queens language with a tone.

However, I think Mao needs a redemption and need atone for whatever that sparked these grievances. He needs his pity party and stop the pissing contest. Which is only making him look like a fool and sound like a fool. While his topping up and hoping someone else will give him air-time.

Mao’s rants is taking him nowhere and his a lost cause. It is an erratic shit-show with no purpose. Only to show how his lacking respect and dignity for his fellow allies in the opposition. He says he wants to talk to all leaders, but at the same time his throwing more charcoal on the fire. How does that add up, Mister? Well, it doesn’t and you are only bringing more heat.

Secondly, you know you have messed up as an opposition leader when the National Resistance Movement Youth League (NRMYL) is calling you a cadre, comrade or even a senior cadre in their tweet today. That’s not a sign of victory, unless you are in opposition to make a mess and create hostility. Because, that NRMYL loves that and the NRM itself will bash in glory over that.

Mao has done a better job undermining the opposition than government spokesperson, chief whip of Parliament or any NRM MPs in the recent days. The DP President has aired out all the dirty laundry without any good receipts. Still, his efforts are been recognized, but not by the people his supposed to get the “love” from. Therefore, if this was his project and the deliver was to be evaluated. It surely doesn’t look a successful one.

In this battle of words, the soldier chairman Mao is very lost and Saving Private Mao will not able to be found. He is behind the front-lines and cannot be accessed. God knows when he will return to sanity, but he will surely continue these antics. Because, it gets people talking. Even if it is only in a negative light about his own self. Which is tragic really. At one point… I saw him as a fellow opposition and a man of the future, actually. He looked bright in the light of “Walk to Work” together with other rising opposition leaders. However, the mighty has fallen and his disgraced his own name. All by himself and he got no one to blame but his own mouth. Peace.
