“I am very happy to have attended this summit. We discussed some serious issues, including the issue of the disappearance of people. I have information about the disappearance of people. The security forces also have some information on this same and this will be made available in a disciplined way. I will ask the DPP to review the charges and organize a soft landing for some of the suspects in security detention because they have helped us to learn the schemes of their misleaders” – President Yoweri Tibuhurwa Kaguta Museveni at the IPOD Summit on the 5th March 2021
One definition of misleader is: “someone who leads astray (often deliberately)” (misleader – link:https://www.thefreedictionary.com/misleader). The old man with the hat is a man who does this deliberately. He says and acts like he doesn’t know, but everyone knows that he knows. Therefore, the IPOD Summit today and his speech is intentionally deceiving.
President Museveni can speak of peace, but wages war instead. He speaks of democracy, but detains his opposition. Therefore, the biggest misleader is himself.
By all means, he wants to look at Robert Kyagulanyi, Kizza Besigye and elsewhere as the misleaders, but he himself is the biggest one. Like for instance, as the Commander-in-Chief. The old mans knows who has ordered and who has kidnapped, abducted and been in-charge of the atrocities in the Republic.
President Museveni can act a fool, but we know that he knows. He knew who did it and who ordered it. Even if he ordered the arrests, the detentions in “safe-houses” and tortures of civilians participating in the opposition. He also knew if opposition activists and leaders was court martial as civilians in a military court. Also not getting bail or getting evidence of their supposed “criminal offence”. So, the political charges and injustice continues.
That shows hows insincere the old man is. That he thinks people cannot think for themselves. As the President appoints and delegates these roles in the Security Agencies and Organizations. The President has his men who does his bidding. If it is Chieftain of Military Intelligence (CMI), Internal Security Organization (ISO), Uganda Police Force (UPF) or Uganda People’s Defence Force (UPDF). Any of these are all following his command and his orders. So, if he feels like it and would like to hurt Bobi Wine. He could easily order the murders, the abductions and the kidnappings of it. While his Ministers acting dumb or stalling the truth from being released to the public.
President Museveni knows who is ordering the “drones” or “panda gari’s”. It could be even himself. Museveni could easily order the take down of Boda Boda 2010 and other organizations to connected to former IGP Kale Kayihura. That is why we know, that he wanted the atrocities to stop. He could just say the word and the activity would cease. However, the old man want to spread fear, intimidate and silence the opposition. As he doesn’t want a real challenge to himself. He knows he isn’t popular anymore and needs fear to boost himself in public.
It is really rich that he himself said this: “We are always ready to explain and also listen to the explanation of others. Unfortunately, some people have abandoned dialogue” (Museveni, 05.03.2021). Mr. I didn’t Respect the Nairobi Talks and the Dialogue in 1985. Mr. I rather bury my enemies and consolidate power, than actually have the full popularity as the mighty General. Talks ill of other people leaving a dialogue. When the state is not really showing any remorse or care for the acts its does. That shows the deceiving ways of Museveni and the NRM. When he thinks people are this stupid and eating of his hands.
Not like he will care of fix this. Unless, he feels in control or been able to silence the opposition. The President cannot expect the parties who has been scorned and hurt by the acts made by his men. Will suddenly talk and speak of peace. When there is no action towards all the lost and the ones suffering. Just because they are political active in the opposition. The President only wants to have them there for a publicity stunt. The IPOD didn’t happen today to make a difference, but it would have made more impact if the FDC and NUP had showed up. However, they knew what was up.
That is why the President is unhappy. He wanted them there as token pieces and show his “multi-partyism” but he didn’t care about that during the campaigns, the rallies, the road-blocks and all other activity to stop them from doing their political work ahead of the polls. The President is never accountable for that, but expect the same opposition who is blocked from sleeping in hotels to show up for his PR stunts. That is how insincere he is and he deserves to be rebuked.
If the President believed in dialogue, why did he block the internet and social media? Is that a manner of someone who let people talk? No, his mindset is only for his own selfish gains and not caring about the others. He would never accept the conditions he put on others. If he went through what the FDC has done over the years or what NUP went through this campaign. He would have run to the bush and waged war against himself. That is just a mere fact in all of this.
The biggest misleader is Museveni himself. He may not know it himself, but someone got to tell him that. Right now, it just happens to be me. Peace.
That today, the Inter Party Organization for Dialogue (IPOD) isn’t that relevant or have the finesse. It hasn’t had that for years. It’s been a waste of time and space. Only relevant for the President to have some “opposition” spectacles and mirage of multi democratic ideals. While we damn know he doesn’t aspire to does or work for it either.
President Museveni gets photo-op with Opposition leaders and write a small useless communique from a Summit. Not like it will amount to anything. Other than a few headlines and moving-on to the next unresolvable issue.
IPOD is as relevant as Apple’s own IPOD. Just like the tape-deck had its time. So did the Ipod too. The IPOD is irrelevant and it has happened, because the state and authorities haven’t cared for it and neither has the President.
The opposition parties in question ditching out is just wise of them. Just to prove a point. The National Resistance Movement (NRM) will name-call and call them useless. No matter what they did. They would call them that and ridicule them. Therefore, the dialogue is a waste of time. When the premise for it isn’t set or have any sort of fruitful agenda. It is just a puff piece and a PR stunt.
The IPOD is the radio-single nobody is asking for but is now overplayed. It has no value. Other than a catchy hook and headlines but will not be remembered for anything in 5 years’ time. Heck, nobody will remember the one-hit- wonder anyways.
President Museveni can show off and be proud that his meeting Mao and Akena. His loyal token opposition. The ones who has allies in his huge cabinet. Men who attacks the staunch opposition and see them leaving the folds. DP has lost so many over the last year and UPC is far from greatness.
IPOD is a useless enterprise with nothing to offer at this point. That is deliberate by the President and his men. His not investing in it or caring about the outcome. He just want to show-off opposition to outsiders and backers. To give it a self-belief of “multi-democracy”. While we are supposed to forget about the horrific actions, arbitrary arrests, abductions and extra judicial killings done to opposition activists, leaders and members.
The President and IPOD cannot overshadow the drones, the massive assault on the opposition and the hardships it is in. Some few kind words and poetic injustice cannot be flattered, but only amplified by the misgivings of the state. Therefore, IPOD at this day and age is totally useless. It got nothing to give and there is no interests in it.
It is insincere and living on a lie. The lie that the President cares and wants dialogue. When we know that he rather bury his enemies, than actually talking with them. Peace.
This is the second election in a row… where Florence Nakiwala Kiyingi have lost in a race to become a Member of Parliament. She has flagged two different parties and races. Still, she has not able to succeed.
In 2016 she ran on a Democratic Party (DP) ticket for the Kampala Woman MP and lost to another opposition candidate. However, she bounced back and was appointed to a Ministry as a “broad-based” cabinet member. Nevertheless, with some time in office she became a National Resistance Movement Member too.
So, in 2021 she stood in another race in Masaka as a NRM MP aspirant. Florence didn’t succeed there either. This time trying the less competitive seat of Bukomansimbi NRM Woman MP. Even with the ruling party and the machinery behind her. She still couldn’t bounce back and win. That says it all.
Twice she has lost in two different races for two different parties. Nakiwala Kiyingi have become a loyal cadre of the NRM. In a manner, which is typical for the ones who has found a meal-ticket there. Therefore, nobody should be shocked by her defence and her manners.
Still, she is crying out for the losses in Buganda or Central Uganda in this election. However, she knows perfectly well what happened. Not like there has been major shifts or proof of love for the regime in the Republic. The Republic is tired of the NRM and Museveni. They are voting in defiance of the party and for others hopefully with integrity. The NRM will not bring change and the party have had its time.
Nakiwala Kiyingi did her career move in 2016 when she went from DP to be an appointed minister. Later changed parties too and become another one of the opposition going full yellow. The green turned yellow.
She told in December 2020 not to vote for “jokers”. They clearly followed her advice and didn’t vote her in. She is crying out and being insincere. Just as everyone who is working for their own benefit and not properly representing their constituency. It is just like doesn’t understand the wave or understood the message of the opposition. As a career politician she should know better.
Complaining about the “Scientific Elections” and “election violence” hampering her plans and messages to the constituents. If she was so daring about both. She should have addressed the mischief and concern that happened to the NUP during the campaigns in Masaka. We know these we’re brutal and people died. Still, she doesn’t care about them, but how it hurt her campaigning. It says it all about her entitlement and self-belief of superiority.
It is a reason why she has lost twice. She’s not it and doesn’t have it in her. Neither is she loyal or honest. Another meal-ticket politician hitting a nose-dive and hoping to get a new appointment. Maybe, become an envoy or Presidential Advisor. Don’t be shocked if that happens. However, don’t expect her to do magic. She is just another crony in the limbo. As she has nowhere to go, but beg the President for further favours. Peace.
Nabilah Naggayi Sempala is most likely coming third in the Lord Mayoral Race of Kampala. Incumbent Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago seems to be supreme yet again. Even as Lukwago has gone all the way from the Democratic Party (DP) to become a Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) candidate. However, that has been in the wood-works for so long, as his been a steady ally of Dr. Kizza Besigye. Therefore, the political change in the sense of Lukwago is a manner of integrity.
While Nabilah who has gone from the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) where she had been the Kampala Woman MP and now went into the election with a bogus method. There is nothing that make it seem legit from the outside. Yes, the FDC wasn’t all good with process and the agreements made with Lukwago. Just like Nabilah didn’t want to challenge Dr. Stella Nyanzi. Who also came third in the race for Kampala Woman MP on the 14th January 2021.
Nevertheless, Nabilah is questioned for her actions and her meal-ticket ways. I was against her standing for the National Unity Platform (NUP) for Lord Mayor. That wasn’t because of Latif Ssebagala who was first vetted to be the Lord Mayoral Candidate for the NUP. He dropped out and instead decided to stand as an Independent. Nevertheless, that man lost his election as Independent too. As the NUP candidate won that election in that Constituency, where Latif was the incumbent MP.
The NUP did in their first round of vetting ensure Latif, but they did also drop Jose Chameleone who also wanted to be the Lord Mayoral Candidate. Who had gone from being the DP Mobilizer to become a NUP Member. Still, the NUP didn’t take him in or give him an opportunity. No, they ditched him.
Instead with all of this. The now outcast within the FDC, Nabilah suddenly went over to NUP and became the appointed Lord Mayoral Candidate. So, the whole process was hectic. Nabilah had already tried to get her way in the FDC. But, that didn’t work out and she tried to challenge the one who had secret agreement within the FDC.
That didn’t work out, apparently. The voters doesn’t trust Nabilah. That isn’t because of the NUP. It is because of how Nabilah is playing around at election time. Nabilah did the same in 2016. When she was jumping between stages with Mbabazi (Go Forward), President Museveni and returning to the nomination of Besigye (FDC).
So, if people looking for someone to believe in or think they are working for something bigger then themselves. Then the likes of Nabilah isn’t the character you think off. She is trying to finesse the game and get ahead. Trying to find her place to ensure a secure office. Not that the office or service matters. As long as she is part of a movement with momentum. That is why she double dipped and suddenly turned red from blue over night.
What is really striking is that Daniel Kazibwe, the NRM Lord Mayor came before Nabilah. The Salim Selah operative is more popular and supported then Nabilah. This is from the same city she has represented as Woman MP and they don’t see her as viable.
This is the third term of Lukwago and second party doing it. He shows strength and that the city believes in him. The way Kampala politics is… they need a veteran and someone who knows the hectic mess, President Museveni have made. That has been done to clear oversight and to many chefs in the kitchen.
Nabilah can cry foul, but she should know its all on her. A cynical meal-ticket politician who has been revealed and she doesn’t have the ability to change. The only thing she can do is to create headlines, but not be a loved character. It is actually tragic, but she should look into herself and maybe do some soul searching before she finds a new home. Peace.
The man who promised a “fundamental change” and be a different from the ones before him. President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni promised a lot, but however these days it shows no difference between him and the second Dr. Milton Obote II regime. He is using the same means against opposition and activists.
The abduction and suddenly detaining of Nicholas Opiyo yesterday proved it. As he was taken by law enforcement in plain clothers from a restaurant in Kamwokya. Later it was reported that he was at the Central Investigation Division (CID) at Kireka. However, they have suddenly charged him with money laundering and such. That is just an easy way freeze accounts and find excuses to have behind bars.
It wasn’t only Opiyo who was abducted yesterday. His team was also taken-in. These was Simon Peter Esomu and Anthony Odur. Which shows that anyone can be taken by the state operatives for no apparent reasons these days.
There been reports of Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) leaders and candidates who has been taken and in-custody without any warrants. The National Unity Platform (NUP) supporters have been attacked by soldiers as they were preparing for rallies. They were wearing red and posters of Bobi Wine. That was enough to get either brutally hurt by them or arrested to unknown locations.
These days the regime doesn’t have the State Research Bureau (SRB) which was a torture dome and where people was taken too. Today the Internal Security Organization (ISO), Chieftain of Military Intelligence (CMI) and other outfits are using not only CID Kireka, but also ungazetted safe-houses for the ones that is abducted by the state. This sort of operation have gone on for long and court cases proved it. However, the election is only showing the lack of space for opposition in the Republic.
The National Resistance Movement (NRM) is acting like Uganda People’s Congress (UPC) under Dr. Milton Obote II did to the Democratic Party in the 1980s. Where MPs was arrested, gerrymandering and abduction of people. There is no difference there. Only new names and parties, but the parties are clearly acting alike.
Now the green of the DP isn’t the deadly sin, but wearing the red or blue is the problem. If you are associated with NUP or FDC you can expect legal trouble. You can get abducted for weeks without warrants or charges. The people who is abducted is able to get access to get attorneys, neither are they freed after 48 hours without a trial. They are just keeping them indefinitely and hoping nobody is blowing the whistle on the injustice.
The NRM is repeating the ills of the previous regimes. They are using the military, expanded the Presidential Entourage and finding new measures to suppress the public. The President is blaming the victims and using words that even Obote did in 1983.
Where Obote said: “It is convenient for them to make allegations in order to hide the effect of losing support and the lack of policies to put to the electorate” (Leon Dash – ‘Violence Poisons Political Process Within Uganda’ 01.12.1983, Washington Post).
We can hear the NRM saying similar these days. They are deflecting and hoping people are forgetting the ones abducted and arrested politically during these times. That would be very convenient for them. As we are following the campaign trail and what’s happening to the main candidates. While the lingering supporters and smaller candidates… can be behind bars without anyone defending them. Some can even be at a safe-house and their families have no clue where they are taken. The ones abducted to unknown locations. Just because the state can do so… Peace.
