Opinion: Is Museveni trying to “split” Mengo now?

Not be shocked, not be surprised, but there is a scheme going on and everyone should be aware. President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has now appointed a person to be the Presidential Advisor on Bataka Affairs. That’s directly taking a step and digging himself internally into the bidding of Lukiko and stifling the power of the Kabaka. That’s it.

Mengo should listen and be aware of this. It is ensuring the Katikkiro and Lukiiko is undermined again. This is taking part and taking pieces of the work of the political arm of the kingdom of Buganda. That’s it.

The person appointed isn’t important here, but the reflection of doing it. This is taking account and having someone with a keen interest into whatever the Bataka is doing. The President is starting to issue and having people in his midst who works directly for him to interfere and listen to one clan over another one.

There is already a long history of grievances between Mengo and the Bataka. That’s going all the way back to 1920s and now a hundred years later the Head of State appoints someone to look into it. Even the colonial masters let the Lukiiko do the bidding and find solutions to the matter. However, the enclave even had an understanding and could see the sentiments of interfering in this.

The President already has interfered and pushed the envelope, as his already building a Lwattamu House and spending billions of shillings on it. That’s something he already promised and budgeted for in July 2025. So, today he takes it further by appointing a Presidential Advisor on the matter.

The Katikiro and Kabaka needs to address this. Here the President is causing division and trying to weaken the Kingdom further. That’s what the President wants, and this is how he controls things. He micro-manages and pays people off to cause in-fighting with others. Meanwhile, he can take the glory for getting the party to pay amends and gratitude for his mediation. Therefore, we can see it all coming.

This is done to create another “Lost Counties” and done to challenge Mengo. That’s it. The Bataka is used as a pawn and they cannot see it. These people aren’t getting more from the President but instead is used to weaken someone he fears. That’s why he does this, because he has too and he cannot continuously undermine the King or his Prime Minister without any ramifications. That’s what he does when he appoints a Presidential Advisor and takes their word over Mengo. Peace.
