The news that Captain Masresha Sete has surrendered to the state yesterday. The Amhara Fano People’s Organization (AFPO) has lost a prominent leader who happened to be the Head of the Foreign Affairs Department and the Commander-in-Chief of Amhara Fano People’s Force Gojjam Command. So, this an important fallout and is weakening the rebellion.
Fano has lost a vital leader in the surrender of Captain Mashresha Sete. The leader who has been tortured, thrown into prison and seen his own parents getting abducted by the state. That man is giving way and giving in to the Federal Government.
This here is a sign of what is ahead. There must be a reason why Captain Masresha Sete did this and gave it all up. A man who has fought like he did and went against the state. Well, if you give way and accepts to surrender. Now his in the mercy of the former enemies and the ones he fought to topple. Alas, the Captain has now abandoned the cause.
For the Ethiopian National Defence Force (ENDF) and the Prosperity Party (PP) this is a victory. They are seeing a vital leader and one who has a function within FANO totally give up. A man who rebelled and now has returned. This is just really compelling and says something about the internal struggles of Fano too. As they aren’t able to keep the high ranking officials and give them strength to carry on. This is happening after three years of fighting and relentlessly going against the state.
It’s hard to estimate the impact and if others will follow Captain Masresha Sete. However, it is a message and it isn’t blunt. Where there is smoke, there is fire and the internal issues of Fano will come to the surface. Regardless of how the AFPO wants to remain intact and act like it was nothing. Well, it is something and everyone should recognize that.
Now we just have to wonder about the cope and what the fellow rebels will do. If not, what the rest of the Fano command in Gojjam and how the Fano will spread the message about it. We know they will deflect about it and act insincere, because they cannot show any sort of weakness. However, this here is a sign of what’s to come and people need to be aware. Peace.
