Sudan: Forces of Freedom and Change (FFC) – Press Statement (09.02.2024)

The disastrous April 15 war in Sudan is approaching its eleventh month amid increasing indicators of its disasters, most notably serious warnings about food security in Sudan, the announcement that civilians are facing the specter of famine, and reports of increasing death rates among children due to lack of food.

These reports ring the expected alarm, as one of the outcomes of war and its absurd scenes, that the people of a country that is viewed as a food basket face the dangers of losing food security, the specter of famine threatens its people, and their children die as a result of hunger and lack of food!! This is a defining moment that requires both sides of the war to reflect on the outcome and results of this senseless war and to be convinced that its continuation means more devastation and destruction that are completely unjustified. And that they bear in solidarity the full extent of this suffering due to the failure of the agricultural season, the prevention and obstruction of the arrival of aid and food, or the exposure of their stores to looting and theft; The outcome of this scene confirms that the time has come to put an end to this war.

In conjunction with the disaster of the food and humanitarian situation, we followed the developments and repercussions of cutting off internet services partially or completely within #السودان and transforming this vital service as one of the tools of war between the two parties, which resulted in direct damage to citizens and general life in conflict areas, in addition to the presence of direct impacts and threats to health and food security. For those inside Sudan whose lives and livelihoods are linked to banking applications linked to telecommunications networks and the Internet.

We, in the #الحرية_والتغيير Forces, call on both parties to take urgent and immediate measures to stop all forms of military use of humanitarian aid and allow its immediate access to those in need, and to refrain from using telecommunications and Internet services within the ongoing conflict between them, and to stop now and immediately from this behavior by completely or partially disrupting Internet and communications services; Which the civil democratic forces have been rejecting and opposing since it was used for the first time by the former regime during #ثورة_ديسمبر_المجيدة and then after the crime of dispersal #اعتصام_القيادة_العامة in June 2019 AD and following the October 2021 coup.

The Forces of Freedom and Change demand the urgent acceleration of the two parties’ fulfillment of their obligations and pledges concluded in #منبر_جدة regarding the delivery of humanitarian aid, opening the corridors for its delivery to those who deserve it, fully protecting workers and institutions working in humanitarian work, and facilitating the procedures for their entry into the country and their arrival to all regions. With the need to additionally stipulate to ensure the continuation of communications and Internet services throughout Sudan and not subject them to intentional interruption or any deliberate actions or interventions that result in a negative impact on the efficiency and quality of their services and to consider any infringement on them as a war crime.

We look forward to ending the war, stopping it, achieving lasting peace, establishing a sustainable democratic civil transition, and stopping all its tragedies now and immediately, in a way that meets the legitimate aspirations of our people to achieve the slogans of the glorious December Revolution in freedom, peace, and justice, dismantling the partisan empowerment state, and recovering looted public funds, leading to a democratic civil state. These are aspirations that may be delayed, faltered, or It is being undermined, but it will reach its limits and triumph over its enemies because it expresses the will of a people who lived to win. This is what will happen one day.
