During the interview, he suggested that Bobi Wine risks being charged with treason because of statements made abroad about Uganda. Going back to August 2018 and we can all remember that Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu was charged with treason after the Arua By-Election in the same year. Where there was deadly and lethal actions made, which was implicated and pinned on then Member of Parliament, Bobi Wine. Now in 2026 things of similar sort is on the horizon for him again.
Right now his on the run and is in exile. That’s also his family and his not in the Republic. His speaking on international stages and conferences enlightening the world about what is happening in Uganda. That’s after campaigning for the second time and being brutally addressed by the state. The whole party of National Unity Platform (NUP) are hurting, in pain and suffering as a consequence of their rise and being largest opposition party in the Republic. That’s why the state target the NUP and Bobi Wine for existing.
Now in 2026 his again getting charged with treason. Last time was for campaigning and for partaking in election violence, which was later dismissed, as there was no proof of the criminal conspiracy, but they did plant army weapons on Bobi Wine. Now years later he is in exile and the state says he should watch his mouth. Because if he continues to talk, he will be charged with treason.
I wrote his in February 2025 and it is fitting today:
“Bobi Wine is up for a treason charge. That’s the gist of things. They don’t assault, destroy and deplete buildings like this just for fun. No, it is done with a scheme further down the line. That will justify the confiscated goods and whatnot they took. Not be surprised or shocked” (Minbane – ‘Opinion: Soon treason charges will be pinned on Bobi Wine’ 21.02.2025).
I was one year ahead of time. I’m no fortune seller or have crystal balls to envision the future. However, there is a pattern and what the authorities or the state does to the dissidents. So, it would apply and be fitting for Bobi Wine. The man who is a force to be reckon with and who dares to challenge the status quo. Therefore, it was a matter of time and now we just have to await the state to do it. They will either do it in person or in absentia. Which wouldn’t be new either. The same happened to Dr. Kizza Besigye. History repeats itself… and it’s tragic that we are here. Peace.
