“We met him yesterday (February 5) because that is the only alternative we have. Do you think this government is going away anytime soon? We need a national dialogue on the issues affecting our country” (…) “I remain a member of the opposition, so meeting Museveni does not change that. Even Hamas meets with the Israeli government, so why can’t some of us meet Museveni?” – Yusuf Nsibambi, Mawokota South MP, (06.02.2026).
Forum for Democratic Change (FDC). The almighty and powerful FDC has fallen. It has already been on its deathbed since it made Dr. Kizza Besigye person non-grata. This recent election and performance just proves how the party is losing edge, stamina and even character. They are just becoming meal-ticket politician and searching for relevance.
In the past, the FDC was setting the agenda and was fierce. Now they are toothless and lack even a little finesse. That’s seen by Amuriat and Mafabi. Both of the main leaders are looking bleak. Now one of the Deputy Presidents together with a delegation of fellow FDC leaders and former ones has shown there.
Seeing Nsibambi pictured with Museveni and the delegation at the State House is telling in itself. It just shows everything and we all know the gist of these things. These visits won’t make the regime change or budge. No, this is showing they are viable and wants to be assets to the President. They wants to be in connection and be of use. That’s the game that is played, the President has the leverage and these people want their cut.
Nsibambi should know this tale well, as he has seen this happening others and former FDC leaders too. They have wined and dined with the President to later be poached or be compromised. That’s the game and the President doesn’t play around. He won’t change his ways and he has profited of doing it this way.
It is just sad to see the FDC has fallen this far. Before it was one off and a few who left astray who did this. People who didn’t want to wait in line or didn’t see the end of hardships to overcome the regime. Those where the ones who went from the FDC and became part of the NRM. That’s what’s usually the game-plan and the President waiting for the moment to corrupt them.
Deputy President Nisbambi should know this by now. He has seen fellow peers do the same thing and never return. He has seen parties dealing with Museveni – thinking they got a good deal to later being crushed or weakened by him. That’s what he does… and it won’t be anything different with him.
He can act a fool and act like it doesn’t mean anything, but it does. If it didn’t mean anything, Museveni wouldn’t make it happen or even hold the meeting. He knows it and the perception is the key. It is a winning formula and he loves to do this, as it is weakening in the opposition and his happy to destroy the former biggest opposition party, the FDC, which his getting closer in achieving. Peace.
