“Massive Influx of Armed Elements and Congolese Refugees into Burundi. As the city of Uvira has fallen into the hands of the M23, Burundi continues to face a massive influx of Congolese military personnel, Wazalendo militiamen, and Rwandans fleeing the fighting. Up until Wednesday, December 10, SOS Médias Burundi had already recorded more than 2,000 armed elements who had crossed the border. In the Rumonge commune, in the southwest of the country, other groups continue to arrive via Lake Tanganyika. Local authorities, who have prohibited homeowners from renting their properties to Congolese refugees, report having received more than 700 armed elements this Saturday, December 13, alone” (SOS Médias Burundi, 13.12.2025).
This here report is telling and the various stakeholders wouldn’t report this. As it is telling a story, but totally different than the narratives and the propaganda spilled in the middle of conflict. Because this is just baffling and a story that is needed to be told.
Close to 3,000 armed personnel of various kind has crossed the borders from DRC into Burundi. That happens as the AFC/M23 conquered and annexed Uvira. We know the influx of refugees was coming and people fleeing the proxy-militia. That is occurring every time they can takeover more territories. However, this here is saying much more.
This is happening in silence and without any fuzz. Nevertheless, these sorts of movement from the battlefield and from the region of conflict tells it all. These are the ones who flee and leaves the territories. They are afraid and fleeing the conflict, which they have lost and given way from.
It is notable that there are reports of Wazalendo and Congolese armed elements leaving, but also Rwandan too. That means they are all fleeing across the border and into Burundi. This also is vastly different than what the AFC/M23 is saying and trying to get the world to believe.
There has to be more reporting on this. We will know more with time and when the UN Experts and others are collecting for their reports too. However, for now everything is murky and all sides are throwing shades at each other. That’s what conflict does… Peace.
