“The defence lawyers for Dr. Kizza Besigye and his co-accused, Hajji Obeid Lutale and Captain Denis Oola, have raised concerns over the state providing only part of the evidence in their case. The state admitted the partial disclosure and asked the court to postpone the case scheduling to 3 March 2026, saying they need time to transfer the materials onto devices like flash drives. While the prosecution promised full disclosure by then, the defence said they have only received written transcripts without the audio and video files, and stressed they need enough time to properly review all evidence, which should have been shared by 21 January 2026” (NTV Uganda, 24.02.2026).
After 465 days behind bars and without any due process. The State and the Authorities claim they haven’t had the time to move evidence over to a flash-drive. They have kept him over a year behind bars. These people are detaining him and keeping him behind bars with every excuse of the book.
Now they need to move material into a flash drive. They should have had all the time to do this, and this is just a mockery of everyone’s time. It is just foolish and deliberate. Maybe after a few weeks they need to transfer it all to a CD or even a MINI-DISC. Maybe even have to fax it or find time to usage postage to get it received and copied on time. Seriously, who buys this?
They have moved the case between the courts and there been petitions of bail, which have been denied. The state hasn’t given way but only blocked the political prisoners any space or ability to get out on bond. Therefore, they are just using all tricks in the book to keep them behind bars. Nevertheless, they now have a new vibe running.
Who believes this now?
This is another smokescreen and a trick of the state. Sooner or later, evidence or sort of proof will go missing. They will lack witnesses and there will be ghosts gone wild too. Who think the state will produce anything of substance and sincerity? As if they couldn’t have done it by now and they have only amended the charges but not done anything else since keeping him detained. Therefore, who are believing them or even trusting the process?
These people have charged and kept Besigye behind bars before but never been able to sentence him. He has been pinned so much and the most arrested person in the Republic. A fellow man who has been in trouble for his political work or activism. That’s why he has been a target, and this proves it, yet again.
Now a lack of material produced and moved onto a flash-drive is the reason for the case to go live. That’s what they are claiming and saying, but who truly believes this? Who are taking them seriously or even have faith in them?
That’s because it is happening after 465 days and they have had over a year to do it, but now they haven’t been able to do so. Please… please. This is nonsense and everyone knows it. Peace.
