Guinea-Bissau: Goodluck undressed Embaló

What happened in Guinea-Bissau wasn’t a coup. The President, Umaro Embaló, was the one who announced the coup. While it was happening, he was the one calling media organisations to say there was a coup. I’m a Nigerian, and I know how heads of state are treated when there’s a real coup” – Former President Goodluck Jonathan (28.11.2025).

Umaro Embaló who just fled into exile to make it seem like an sincere act. Meanwhile, his fellow allies are busy appointing themselves and creating the transitional government in Guinea-Bissau. We all know the gig and the reason for all of it. They did this, because this was the only way out and that the incumbent President could never win the election or have enough popularity to continue as the Head of State.

That’s why the military together with the Head of State created the coup d’etat and made an attempt of closing the public space, closing the borders and creating a state of emergency. That’s what happened and this is what the state just did. This is why the members and the ones who are now involved are all people associated with Umaro Embaló and people he trusted. Therefore, no one can believe that this is a sincere or honest action.

That former Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan is calling it out is just refreshing. It just shows that the ones surrounding the President did this clandestine mission and planned it in the final stages of the elections. That was all done when the President and his fellow men knew their time was up.

It doesn’t help the ones in charge when UN Human Rights Chief states this about the affair: “UN Human Rights Chief Volker Türk on Friday called on the military authorities in Guinea Bissau to respect and protect human rights following reports of politically motivated arrests and use of unnecessary or disproportionate force in the aftermath of the 26 November coup d’état. At least 18 people have been arbitrarily detained, among them Government officers, magistrates, and opposition leaders. Most of them are reportedly being held incommunicado” (OHCR – ‘Guinea-Bissau: Türk deplores post-coup violations, urges respect for human rights’ 28.11.2025).

If you want to believe this charade. Not only the ones who made himself the President. The newly minted Prime Minister isn’t making things better, as Ilídio Vieira Té was the former President’s Finance Minister and his Campaign Director. Just like his former Chief of Staff became the interim President. It just shows the truth and who is calling the shots. They cannot even make it believable. More of the same and people who are all associated with the former President. Which just shows what they are doing and they cannot even do with a little bit of wisdom.

The ones that questioned it from the onset has been vindicated by now. The opposition leaders and supposed winners of the election are detained. Meanwhile, the former President is living large in Senegal. So, this game is rigged and they tried to fool everyone, but ended up making a fool of themselves. Peace.

Guinea-Bissau: N’tá the “President”?

The former Chief of Staff, General Horta na N’tá has been sworn in as President today. His a loyalist and a man who has campaigned directly for former President Umaro Sissoco Embaló. Someone he held meetings with together with other military commanders over the weekend. So, just mere days after that and in connection with the election that the incumbent was bound to lose. They needed a justified way out and a reason to ensure longevity of the Embaló by any means.

This is the inner-circle and the ones in power encircling the offices. They are giving themselves a “one-year” transitional time of the Military Command. It is just giving itself time and suspending the elections. They are just ensuring the pursuit of power and keeping it close. That’s why the opposition is arrested, but the former President is allowed to speak to the international press. This is just a giving and it’s telling.

N’tá is one of the men that the President trusted. That was someone who was part of the inside deals and was enriching himself while Embaló was in office. He was even rumoured to be part of a group that earned funds on illegal logging and selling wood. Therefore, it wouldn’t be unlikely that he did other shady deals behind closed doors too.

This play here isn’t believable. Everything happening is against the will of the people and done so to fabricate a crisis. A crisis created by the men of the President and his need to save the day. As the incumbent President was losing an election and was holding office without any justification. That because he knew he wasn’t popular or trusted. Which is why he needed to silence the election results and go after the ones who wanted to publish it. As that means the inner circle in power would have to relent and retire, which we know they won’t or has any plans to do so.

This coup d’etat seems like a farce and fake attempt of creating havoc. Just so the ones in association and in the proximity of the President can continue like yesterday. They need to be in power and have the instruments of the state to continue their “work”. That’s just what we are seeing, and this isn’t shocking. As the drug-operation and well-known drug-hub at Osvaldo Vieira International Airport isn’t a public secret. This is known and in the open. It has caused scandals and the incumbent himself has to fly to Paris to salvage himself or his allies. Therefore, there is a bigger reason why he won’t retire or step down to anyone else.

N’tá will just serve the interests of Embaló. That’s a given and they think they have tricked us all. However, this is just too shady and the writing is on the wall. Peace.
