Opinion: Samuel Makokha’s affiliation with Besigye is the reason why they are charging him with treason

This here isn’t anything new, but today People’s Front for Freedom (PFF) and staunch activist, Samuel Makokha is charged with Treason by the Authorities. He is charged with treason for partaking and being a man who has been fighting beside Dr. Kizza Besigye. They are charging him and taking him to Nakawa Court after keeping him detained for 10 days without any due process in the old CMI/Mbuya dungeon.

We know he was captured, kidnapped or apprehended on the 25th November 2025, as he was whisked away to an unknown location from Entebbe International Airport. That’s what they did and today he resurfaced in Nakawa Court charged with Treason. This is how the state operates and it tells a tale in itself. There is no honour among thieves and among people who thrive in violence, as that what the state bashes itself in and gives itself the glory too.

We know this is phony and fake charges. We know these are just there because of who he is and what he stands for. Samuel is charged and detained out of association and the cause which inspires him. That’s why he has lived in exile before and was working for the cause in the Nordic countries too. Therefore, he knew what he risked when returned to the Republic.

In addition to this, but the authorities knows his a candidate for Parliament and running in Busia as well. They know this because he has been nominated and been prepared to become the MP for PFF. That’s why his not a random civilian, but a political activist and a coming leader as well. This is why there is a need to scream out for justice and freedom. They have taken away his liberties and for no reason whatsoever. It is just done by mere association and by his activism together with Besigye. Just like others who suffer the same fate in the hands of the authorities.

This here reflects badly on the Republic. This is how the Movement wants to be remembered and this is how it liberated the nation. By kidnapping, arresting and creating prisoners of conscience. That’s what the NRM did and this is the legacy of Museveni. Peace.
