Well, how can I say it, but the West supported and aided the former Democratic Republic of Congo (then Zaire) President Mobutu Sese Seko from the 1965 until they overthrew him in 1997, when they installed their next puppet. This was Laurent Kabila and his short-lived rule of the Republic. However, this writings will not be about that. Which I have written extensively in the past. Today, I am focused on Cameroon. As the similar fashion is happening in Yaounde and Douala. Where President Paul Biya has ruled on decree for 36 years and is 85 years old. When done with the newly elected term, he will rule into 2025 and will be by then 92 years old.
That means that the West is still supporting and keeping a man as their stooge, as he has been steady in Europe. This man is practically living in Switzerland eating the resources and state reserves from a hotel bed. That is why his decrees and tyranny continues living lavish abroad. Because no one is sanctioning him. As long as he is peaceful and doesn’t mess with the Françafrique or the British interest on the continent. The political navigator of Cameroon can see that Biya has done both. He even sends letter of condolences elsewhere, but put curfew in the anglophone area. Where he sends his armies to burn villages.
That is why I feel at this present time. The Western Power with their statement after the recent election. They are acting as it was nothing wrong, nothing to condemn. As the US are even betraying the Cameroonians with saying they can do this with legal remedies. Just like they didn’t see all Constitutional Court threw out with all appeals to have a re-run and say this forged election was funky dory and nothing wrong.
Why I am saying the West is acting like they did for so long with Mobutu. Look at these statements from London and Washington D.C.!
UK Statement after announced election results:
“The UK congratulates President Paul Biya on his re-election” (…) “We hope that President Biya will reach out to all sections of Cameroonian society and work to build confidence and trust. It is crucial for all parties to engage in a peaceful and structured process leading to constitutional reforms, as previously set out by the President, and avoid excessive use of force” (Minister for Africa Harriett Baldwin – ‘Minister for Africa statement on Cameroon elections’ 23.10.2018).
US Statement after announced election results:
“The United States congratulates the people of Cameroon for largely peaceful elections on October 7. We urge all parties – including the government – to respect the rule of law, resolve peacefully any disputes through established legal channels, and avoid hate speech” (Heather Nauert – ‘ Cameroon’s Presidential Election Results’ 22.10.2018).
UK says the Cameroonians should build confidence. That is the same day, as the government asks for tenders to build the Constitutional Court President a new house worth 500,000 US Dollars on the day after the announced elections. They are asking people to trust in Biya, that he will lead a process and constitutional reforms, for a man who is building a mansion for the ones announcing his victory and throwing away the opposition in the week before?
Also, the US congratulate the people on their misery. As they are supposed to respect the rule of law and act peacefully. As the President are corrupt, using the army against them, arresting opposition leaders and activists in the Anglophone regions. They are supposed to be loyal subjects to their noble kingpin Biya. How can they use legal channels? When they did and the Constitutional Court, didn’t see any merit in their case? As the marred and unverified leaked results of 14th October was announced on the 22nd October! Explain that or doesn’t the United States understand that concept? Maybe they are all drinking to much diet-coke to think for second before writing a statement?
Well, this is so like the West did march behind Mobutu. Until the West got tired of him and his misuse of power. We can wonder Biya is taking it too far or goes overboard. Because seemingly he can do whatever without any costs. He is not sanctioned, there are no response, even as people fleeing to Nigeria and elsewhere from the internal conflict and use of army against civilians.
That they are not condemning or even saying anything of substance. They will not act against this man, even if they should. It seems like he is their man and therefore, they ask for peaceful means, but the man in charge is serving the public violence. If not rampant corruption and thieving of the state resources. That is in the open. As proven today, when the President of Constitutional Court has been given a new mansion for services rendered. That is the memo to the public.
Therefore, if the US and UK was serious. They would have stated it differently and they didn’t. Proof that Biya is the modern-day Mobutu. Just awaiting the next sequence and how this turns out. Or if the loyalty to the Western Powers is paying off in the end. Because seemingly no one dares to touch him or even question his legitimacy. Peace.
That President Paul Biya was winning this election was written in stone. The President winning his seventh term was to be anticipated. There was nothing else on the horizon. The reality of the matter was if the numbers or the ballots would make any sense. Biya clearly are taking people for fools. As the leaked numbers from the Electoral Commission (ELECAM). This was all to be anticipated and the lack of joy. Is the reason thereof.
That President Biya has been to the President is evident. That there is little celebration, is that the state party and organizations knew it would be like this. They have house-arrested opposition leaders in the days ahead of the announcing of the results. They have arrested journalists and had the military on the streets as they anticipated demonstrations against the rigged election. That is why there is little reason to celebrate or enjoy about the moment.
The President for 36 years has given himself the power for another 7 years. As the formalities for this is soon over. As much as the Constitutional Court only listened to the pleas of a re-run, only to follow legal provision, but not because of their evidence of rigging really mattered. The pre-fixed results was written in stones. Just like the 10 Commandments was written to Moses back-in-the-day.
What is special about today, is that the exact same results as the sheets leaked on 14th October 2018. The result of Biya was then 71,28% unverified presidential results and today the results was on the announced results as well on the 22nd October 2018. This being two weeks after and as scheduled.
What we do know is that there has been enough issues with this election. Fake observers, lack of voting in the anglophone regions and the other issues that is all mounting up to a forged exercise. Which has been made in a fashion, that is deliberated by the government and the President. To think otherwise is to be naive. The whole process was just to ensure the President another term. This wasn’t for any democratic values or for any significant will of the people.
Biya will have ruled for 43 years when the newest term is over. Cameroon is his fiefdom. That is evident now, if you didn’t believe it. You should know it by now.
President Biya is for life. That is proven yet again. The grandest leader of them all. The giant Ghost of Cameroon, the one who doesn’t need his ministers, but can proclaim everything by Presidential Decree when needed. This will continue, because he has the army and has the ability to control everything. Peace.
19th October 2018, Oslo
Dear Honorable, His Excellency President Paul Biya of Cameroon.
Well, lets us just be frank and scratch all the nobility and humility, because we both know what is up these days.
You held an election on the 7th October 2018, as the two weeks period the Election Commission (ELECAM) can announce the result within two week and that means on the 21st October 2018. Also, today’s verdict in the Constitutional Court has rejected all the appeals to reject the polls. Even when there are more than enough evidence of questionable activity. Not only the acts of fake observers, but the non-activity in the Anglophone region. As the state violence are continuing their and the persistence of electioneering in favor the President. Which wouldn’t be surprising for someone as corrupt as you, Mr. President and how you have conducted all government business by decree from afar.
I am not surprised that the Constitutional Court awarded in your favor. They are appointed by and working directly for you. Like most of the state does and that is why even the representatives and the Members of Parliament from the Anglophone Region are not going home to their constituencies, because they don’t want to risk their lives. Still, you and them are saying everything is so cool.
We both know this is all a charade to keep yourself in power, by every mean necessary. We have seen it before and you are repeating it. Just with even more added violence in the regions where people are rebelling against you and the Republic.
Paul Biya you can lie to yourself and lie to the world, but so many knows your game. Your cannot keep this lie up. You act as the sole proprietor and owner of the Republic. Like you fathered the land and are accustomed to run it. Therefore, no else should. You took it and no one else should take it from you. The wealth it has given you and the regime you have created around you. In nation filled with youths, the cabinet and ministers are double or triple their age. There is no institution where your rampant corruption haven’t touched or where your people aren’t tweaking the bits and pieces.
We all know this and you know it too. That why your not concerned with three years between Council of Ministers or anything else. You are not afraid of rebellion or even mutiny, even a coup d’etat. As your control is there. People dream of the coup d’etat because they want someone else to rule and with another way. They have seen what you do and what you do best is to linger in Swiss hotels.
You should enjoy retirement in Switzerland or behind bars for the ones dying on your watch, by the orders you have given to the army and pay the cost for the lives you have brutally taken, as people have lingered in jail, because they stood up to you.
You can forge an election, you can forge a regime and use all tricks to stay there. But you will not be statesman, you will not remembered in terms, which are any good. You will be remembered as the tyrant, that everyone wish where gone and took his Republic for granted.
The Republic deserves better than you. You know that and we all do.
