Kenya: Meru Young Professionals letter to the Office of the Deputy President – Re: Demand for an Apology (16.11.2021)

“I urge you, don’t be incited. Choose leaders who will ensure this country remains peaceful and united and those who will carry on with the work we already started and not take us back to where we came from, please don’t allow Mwai Kibaki’s 10 years and my 10 years to be destroyed by electing thugs and thieves. Time to play politics will come. But for now, what is more important is for the country to remain peaceful. We should never witness violence in this country because of politics. What we want is to continue with the development agenda so that we can establish industries for our youth to get employment” – President Uhuru Kenyatta on the 29th October 2021
Kenya President was visiting Kiambu and held a rally where he spoke of his legacy and remaining steadfast to it. However, Kenyatta haven’t delivered and he knows it. His allies and comrades have found plenty of plates to eat from, but they haven’t assured or structured the economy for a brighter future. No, the legacy of Kenyatta is more odious debt. While having huge scandals magnifying the use of public office to personal benefits. Therefore, to prolong the agony shouldn’t be in the voters interests.
The Jubilee Coalition and the Jubilee Party saga haven’t been a joyful one. It has been an disingenuous affair of lies and deception. They have come in with promise, but brutally assaulted all hope. What remains are the skeletons and the left behind papers with pledges and dreams of long forgotten past.
Kenyatta have only made himself pompous and great in the name. His actions and his state isn’t in a better place then when he entered. The politicking is more of the same and the businesses aren’t thriving either. Neither is the hopes of a just enterprise and such. Yes, the Courts have deemed his actions unfit, but he still stifled them. Kenyatta have proven himself resilient to court orders and the ideals of judiciary who is independent from his reign. While he could easily set in effect several of enterprises and policy changes, which was illegal.
That is the sort of legacy he will leave behind. There isn’t far from power to the jail-cell. The people who are associated with the President and appointed have misused their offices to enrich themselves. It is not like he doesn’t know and he let it all happen. Surely, he himself … has gotten more wealth and grandeur over the years. Most likely made some adjustments and regulations, which is fitting for the businesses he owns. Like we know the state have done things to the milking industry etc. Therefore, we know the deal and he should be more sincere than this.
Kenyatta might think people are stupid and gullible. We are supposed to forget the Eurobonds and NYS scandals. We are supposed to forget the maize and sugar “wars” or whatnot. Uhuru better recollect himself and cease as an inspirational figure. He has a reputation and a history for a reason. That is why he couldn’t even do things correctly with the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI), which is totally wasting this second term with.
Kenyatta will not be remembered in a good light. Only his die-hard fans will do that and those are delusional. Because, this man didn’t deliver and didn’t serve his office. There is no justification to continue the legacy of Kenyatta. Unless, you want to give more to the cartels and the industrial parties of the Republic. If you want the unholy trinity to have all access and wealth. While the poor becomes more poor. As the next generation … have to be paid with interests of all the loans he has issued in the span of two terms.
So, please don’t try to sell yourself as a hero when your not. Kenyatta should listen to the ground and what noise that is real. His “yes-men” will not save his grace. They can maybe re-hire a Cambridge Analytica to publish some mockery of content. Still, that will not be legit, because we know the deal and the years in office is the proof of this. Peace.

“Deputy President William Ruto has promised to give sex workers in Mtito-Andei Ksh.1 million as start-up capital for more respectful jobs. Speaking when he visited the town on Monday, Ruto urged the sex workers to organize themselves into a SACCO, after which he will deposit the money into the SACCO. The sex workers had appealed to Ruto to speed up the ‘Hustlers Empowerment Fund’ that will enable them to switch careers venture into more respectful pursuits” (Dennis Musau – ‘DP Ruto Promises Sex Workers Ksh.1 Million’ 25.10.2021, Citizen Digital).
The Deputy President of Kenya and resilient hustler William Ruto have now pledged a million shillings to sex-workers. Clearly, people are just seeing the money is going to the oldest profession known to man-kind, except for herders and hunters.
The headline from Citizens TV or Citizen Digital makes it seems like his giving whores or sex-workers free money. However, this is to a money-saving method to pay for other opportunities. That means it is not given hands over fist. Neither has anybody done the dirty. No, this is a transaction for a proper future. It is clearly a move to make sex-workers into other professions. Alas, invest in the future and not just a nut.
People will use this against him, but actually this is a humble move by the DP. For a Christian man and a man who professes to the Bible so much. This is actually a sincere move. It could be seen as a man who wants to get laid. Apparently, that is the play against him and the jokes circulating online. However, this is actually a good approach.
Yes, Ruto is a thief, a liar and the corrupt politician of the highest order. A man who uses all means to get to the top. By all means DP Ruto deserves to be punished and mocked. Yes, he should be investigated and be criminally prosecuted for his time office. Just like all the other high ranking officials who has used their office to enrich themselves, instead of serving the public.
While this enterprise his at least doing something good or trying to. Yes, it is a quick pay-off to one certain kind of workers. This is giving one union and the unholy matrimony an opportunity to a better life. That is a noble approach to this. Not just get a load off and move on. Peac

“The high court in Kenya declared that the rollout of Huduma Namba is illegal. The government of Kenya failed to undertake a Data Protection Impact Assessment before rolling out the digital ID system as required by Kenya’s Data Protection Act, 2019” (Unwanted Witness, 14.10.2021).
The Jubilee government and President Uhuru Kenyatta have failed again. This isn’t the first case of government policies not being legally rolled-out. The same happened to Building Bridges Initiative (BBI), minimum taxes, the lack of appointing judges, illegal operation of Nairobi Metropolitan Service and the Chief Administrative Officer (CAS). All of these policies and government work has been dismissed in the Courts. So, this government haven’t a good track-record.
So, not shocking…
“The government will appeal the high court ruling that invalidated Huduma namba rollout. Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr. Fred Matiang’i argued that the court verdict was based on the wrong interpretation of the essence and practical intentions of Huduma Namba” (Iftiin FM Kenya, 15.10.2021).
The Jubilee really wants this to happen. As the roll-out has so far reached 11.2 million Huduma Numba Cards been processed, only 6.5 million cards collected. This means a bit over half of the cards has been picked by the citizens. The 2019 law is clearly not legal and the usage of it is questionable at best.
“Only 6.5 million Huduma Namba cards collected from the 11.2 million processed, gov’t Spokesman Cyrus Oguna says distribution ongoing” (Radio Citizens, 13.10.2021).
Huduma Numba is a restrictive and was done with a foreign entity called Mastercard, which described it like this: “Nairobi, Kenya – February 7, 2017 – Mastercard commits to supporting the roll-out of the Huduma Card in Kenya as the technology partner of choice for the local government organisation. The secure payment solution supports Kenya’s Vision 2030 that calls for reforms in public services to enhance accountability, transparency and efficient service delivery, with focus on developing a cashless economy” (Mastercard, 2017).
So, here they are speaking of cashless society and that’s a banking services. While the same card is supposed to enhance the public services too. That is two different types of customer-bases and should be separated. This is not good for the data collected for the state and can be used by the Mastercard company.
The Huduma Namba card had to be used to access any sort of government service. If you need a passport, marriage license, driving license, register to vote, paying taxes, register a phone number, open a bank account, register company or organization, benefit from a government scheme, enrol to public educational facility, register a motor vehicle and other public services. This shows how the card was the identification every citizen needed. They were forced to have this card, as they wouldn’t have access or ability to get help from the government.
The state should just scrap this one and be careful with the data collected. Also, ensure Mastercard does the right thing and hopefully it isn’t in a loophole of technical data storage. As the international card company cannot have this massive power and monopoly on all customer data. Which they are getting with this Huduma Numba scheme.
A card that opens all the gates of government, but also to create a cashless society. That says it all about the different plans from Jubille and what Mastercard wants out of it. This is two very different plans and it should have been stopped before the citizens was signing up. They were forced … and had no other option. Because, if they didn’t sign-up they would loose out and wouldn’t have access to government entities and schemes. That should worry everyone.
Alas, we know this isn’t over and will be prolonged as the state will appeal the verdict. While the courts should also consider compensation for the burden and time the citizens had to use to get the card. Mastercard should also state what sort of arrangement they have with the Ministry of Interior and how they dissolve this agreement. Peace.
