Sometimes, you wonder if the big-men think they are fooling themselves, with grandeur, with splendid facilities, with amazing statements, but however, there are no fruitful declaration or anything significant to prove of the gathering. Other than a few photo-ops and smiles from the attendees.
The IPOD Summit on the 12th December 2018 seems like that today. As there are no concessions, no proof of any movement, the Movement is at a standstill and the Opposition Parties that did show up. Was seemingly there for leverage and not for any political gains. As there are none to prove after mere hours of attending.
That James Akena of the Uganda Peoples Congress (UPC) hailed the process, is fine in itself, but what use has process, when there is no outcome? Why was Norbert Mao blazing at the FDC, when his Democratic Party (DP) is split between the “Good DP” and “Bad DP”. Who knows what Asuman Basalirwa (Justice Forum) was up to really, other than switching sides from People Power to align himself with the NRM.
The only one earing on this affair is the National Resistance Movement and the President himself. President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, who got them on a string. He got most of the opposition at his bay and playing by his rules, without giving away anything. That is the reality of yesterday. There was nothing given by the NRM.
He held a meeting, hold a Presser and spoke about his vision as he usually does without an proper outcome. That is how empty the affair was, that is why the NRM and his minions are attacking the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) for not attending. What was it to attend? To show loyalty to Bosco? To show that he matters and rules supreme. Because he has no plan of stopping to rule.
I find it amusing that the talk of the town is that FDC didn’t show up. Since that shows the weakness of the process, of the delivery and of the platform created by this Summit. If the summit had mattered, if it had any consequences or any sort of result. They would have shown that, that would have been manifested. Instead, they doing the opposite. Blaming the fella that stood them up. Because he knew this was fake dialogue and knew there was nothing real to talk about. As proven with the insults and statements thrown that way.
Why was there none about the Farmers Party, People’s Progressive Party, Conservative Party, Uganda Federal Alliance or the People’s Development Party, because none of them was attending or said to show up with delegates? Is it because they are irrelevant at this point? One Man shows with no standing?
Because they bitch about the FDC, but doesn’t comment about the five parties also missing at the Summit. They gathered the big-shots, but the biggest opposition didn’t show. As there was no reasons to be there and that is now proven.
Time for the Movement to reconnect and digress their deceptions. It is time for the public to open their minds and asks questions. Because they have been, spoon-feed by the NRM. They continue to that, but the Movement are not proving anything. Especially, this IPOD Summit is a proof of that. Since they cannot even show a Joint Declaration or a MoU of some kind. Because there were none in the first place. Peace.

The United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Peacekeeping Operations, Jean-Pierre Lacroix, the African Union Commissioner for Peace and Security, Ambassador Smaїl Chergui, and United Nations Under-Secretary-General and Executive Director for UN Women, Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka are appalled by the acts of sexual violence, including rape, committed against an estimated more than 150 women and girls recently near Bentiu in South Sudan.
Recalling their joint visit to South Sudan and Bentiu only two months ago, Mr. Lacroix, Ms. Mlambo-Ngcuka and Ambassador Chergui note the continued brutality to which women and girls are subjected and the lack of accountability. They met with women who were hopeful about the signing of the Revitalized Agreement on the Resolution of the Conflict in the Republic of South Sudan (R-ARCSS) in September 2018, but remained concerned and fearful about the fragile peace and security in their communities. This type of predatory behaviour is abhorrent and must end immediately.
The United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Peacekeeping Operations, the Executive Director of UN Women and the African Union Commissioner for Peace and Security recalled the resolve of Government authorities to address sexual violence. Given that these recent attacks took place in Government controlled areas, the three urge President Salva Kiir and his senior leadership to expedite efforts to prevent such violence, including through immediate justice and accountability measures.
Further, they urge all parties to the conflict in South Sudan to implement their obligations to address sexual violence and restore the dignity of the women and children of South Sudan, as well as prosecute those responsible to the fullest extent.
The United Nations and African Union stand ready to assist the parties in finding a political solution to the conflict, through the full implementation of their commitments to the Agreement, as well as continue to advocate for the safety of women and girls and their access to services and justice.

“Arrested 1,023 times.
Incarcerated 217 times.
Indicted of 894 offenses.
Never convicted of any
Seemingly abandoned at the last minute.
The futility of trying to serve Ugandans.
” (Chris Mwesigye Bishaka, 04.12.2018).
There is a cost fighting dictatorship, there is cost fighting a tyrant and military government, that is something someone like Dr. Kizza Besigye knows. He doesn’t just know, but he has meet the force, been house-arrested, been detained, been indicted and charged. Besigye have meet everything, seen any prison-cell and been in any kind of trial. Therefore, nothing is new to Besigye, he has been there and tried. He has taken the pain, the cost and torture, he has been mentally challenged and physical by the authorities. However, that haven’t stopped his attitude and will to continue the struggle.
This is a man who has battled the National Resistance Movement (NRM) ever since he left the party, ever since the cabinet and the government position. As one of them who rebelled against the Resistance Party. He rebelled against the NRM and President, who he considered to forget his place and his mission, as it became self-serving and self-interest, not being a government by and for the people.
That is why he has to pay the price of being arrested over a 1000 times, incarcerated 217 times and indicted for 814 offenses. If this isn’t seen as a massive number, than nothing is. What is more striking is that Besigye have achieved this by leaving the NRM by 1999.
That is only 19 years to be in legal trouble. By this rate he has been arrested 53 times each year. Incarcerated 11 times each year and indicted 47 times each year. If you don’t find this stats staggering. I don’t know what will.
What is more special, is that he isn’t a criminal or felon of petty crimes. He isn’t a pickpocket or a terrorist. Even if he has numbers that would seem so. He is just the arch-nemesis of the President. The man who has gotten into trouble, by being the total opposite of the President. That is why he has landed in so much legal trouble and the state has used all tools to suppress his voice and work. Therefore, expect more to come.
This is a proof of what extent the NRM regime and state does to one person. How much of the freedom, liberty and lack of justice there is.
Besigye is the proof of that. Just look at the numbers alone. They have been created by a margin of 19 years. That is surely some amazing stats. But also sad too, as this is one mans life and his cause. To rebel not only against a dictatorship, but also being a political operative in the midst of tyranny. Where people are even mocking for being detained and house-arrested, because it is so common.
They should understand it and swallow the idea. See the amount and wonder if this could happen to them. Sadly it could, but would they dare to stand beside Besigye in the fight? Would they? Or are they leaving him be in the fight against oppression?
Seemingly, the People Power are working for the same, hopefully Besigye and Bobi Wine can work together, dismantling this oppressive regime. Because all forces of hope needs to work together to reach the destination. But will they and are they ready for the cost?
Besigye has already paid the dividend for years, are other people ready to follow suit? Peace.
