This weeks protests from Wednesday to Friday haven’t only undermined the Kenya Kwanza administration. It has also shown its weakness and lack of understanding of its role. The government and the authorities have used brutality, extra judicial-killings, pre-emptive arrests and all other means to quell the demonstrations. Alas, by definition only showing no remorse to break the codes of the Constitution or the rights of its citizens.
We can all within all shadow of a doubt question the opposition and it’s leader, Raila Odinga. The Azimio coalition have to be held responsible for their part of the act. They are willingly sending people to the streets knowingly that their lives are in danger. The Azimio leaders are using the poverty and lack of development as a tool to get people angry and run recklessly in the streets. That’s what is happening here and innocent people are dying.
The authorities and the state should know better. It is just following a familiar pattern and a sinister one. Where the elected government and it’s official is blaming the victims. While also hurting the leaders and trying to vilify them in the process. President William Ruto is responsible for all of this. He is the head of state and is the one that is in command. His in-charge and the deaths are on him. The hurt, the suffering and the ones who are now behind bars. They are all his victims. While the opposition have to answer for what reason and is it all worth it.
Ruto knows this game. His a seasoned politician. A man who has lingered in the upper echelon for ages. A man who has worked with Moi, Kibaki and Uhuru Kenyatta. Ruto knows the way things moves and he haven’t re-invented the wheel. Instead, his issuing deadly orders and people are killed as a consequence.
The demonstrations and the cause of it might not be righteous. However, the way it is addressed isn’t righteous either. Odinga is maybe using his might and his trade to cause havoc. Raila knows how to spark flames and cause a standstill, if he doesn’t get his way. That’s why his doing this and by definition holding the government captive.
If Ruto did nothing. It would seem like Odinga was in control and had the final say. If Ruto is acting to much up or addressing it with force. He will be seen as a dictator and a tormentor. Which he sadly is, as innocent lives are lost and there new political prisoners lingering in jail. They all have to be held accountable for and it’s on his watch.
You cannot spin this one. This week has been brutal and been unjust. There is nothing right about it and only a bloodshed, which could have been avoided. Now the Azimio will be on the barricades and honour the martyrs. They have now names, people and others who they can claim has been violated. These are now political capital and a stain that Ruto never can get rid off. These people are now on his tally and his responsibility for their demise. That’s why Ruto has lost it this week.
Ruto haven’t won any hearts, but only shattered plenty. There is nothing to gain from this and only providing more hurt. It is just painful and obviously he doesn’t counter it with any sincere action. Instead empty pledges and promises, which is a custom trait of the President. Odinga will continue with the protest and he wants to be a force to be reckoned with. That’s why he will continue until he got enough leverage to settle an agreement. Expect some sort of handshake or deal, which gives him a heads-up and possible seat at the table. Peace.
