Ethiopia: Baytona Leader Sibhat arrested in Addis

Again and again, the state is picking-up and arresting opposition leaders. Today the newest victim of this is Baytona leader Kibrom Sibhat. He was arrested and taken away by federal security officers. The Federal Police took him away and he haven’t been seen. Neither is there any clear report where his detained and what charges he has.

We don’t know what “crime” he has done. Neither what reason there is for his arrest. The only reason it seems… is that his a leader of an opposition party and part of the Tigray National Political Parties Forum, which Baytona is a part off. Which have issued stern press releases and information about the warfare in the Tigray region since early November 2020.

This is political persecution and taking away their liberty, freedom and justice because of their association. The state have done this to other parties too and this is nothing new. However, this is a continuation and is the modus operandi of the regime in Addis Ababa.

This is the reform Abiy have delivered to the Nation and must be his most valuable asset ahead of the election. Since that cannot be dialogue, reforms or even policies worth a damn. I am saying that.. because he rather arrest, detain and keep his political enemies behind bars. Than actually meet them in a free and fair election. His worried he cannot win or have the ability to overcome his opponents.

That’s why its easier to use the monopoly of violence the state has and issues orders of their demise. Therefore, Sibhat of Baytona is just a part of a long list of political prisoners. Who is just happening to be in the opposition. That is just the way it is and the state continues to use it machinery to get its foes behind bars. Peace.

Ethiopia: Joint Press Release by Tigray Opposition Political Parties (23.04.2021)

Once again, the Ethiopian government has proven its sham law enforcement campaign in Tigray, is actually a genocidal mission against the people of Tigray, by adding more Tigrian opposition political parties to the crowded detention centers in the military base.
We have learned that Ato Alula Hailu, Deputy Chairperson of Salsay Weyane Tigray and member of Tigray Nationalist Political Parties Forum Management Team; and Ato Kahsay Hailu Salsay Weyane Tigray party high ranking member and Finance Head have been detained on 22/04/2021 in Mekelle by military personnels.
Although we never had any expectations that the Ethiopian regime will spare any Tigrian national in its persecution, let alone members of Tigrian opposition political parties, the act is another clear message that the regime considers every Tigrian national as a crimnal and rule of law is poured down the drainage.
Moreover, this is another substantial evidence that there would be no room for any peaceful political discourse to solve the challenges we face as a nation.
How ever in our part, declaring our unwavering commitment to a peaceful struggle once again, Tigrian Political Parties Forum will not tolerate such blatant abuse and we demand the immediate and unconditional release of our members.
Tigray will prevail

Ethiopia: Two SAWET Party leaders detained by soldiers in Mekelle

There are now credible reports two of the leaders of SAWET Party or the Salsay Weyane Tigray Party been arrested and detained at unknown location. This party has together with other Tigray parties come out with statements undressing the actions of the in the Tigray Region. They are one of the member parties of the Tigray National Political Parties Forum. Who has been important to release credible news and state the affairs of the state. Which the Federal Government don’t want to have out or deliberately hiding from the world public.

That is why its tragic news to hear that Salsay Weyane Tigray’s Deputy Chairman Alula Hailu and Deputy Head of Finance Kahsay Hailu were taken by Ethiopian soldiers to an undisclosed location in Tigray’s capital, Mekelle.

This news is really tragic, but nothing new in Ethiopia. There are so many political prisoners kept across the Republic. That these is just one a big pool or a giant crowds of opposition leaders behind bars. That is modus operandi at this point.

It wouldn’t be shocking if the leaders of Baytone or TIP would be next from the Tigray National Political Parties Forum. Because, the state is deliberately going after its dissidents. They are clearly planning to go after and finding them. One by one and finding any excuse to arrest, detain or charge them. With no proper cause, but as a warning to anyone opposing the regime.

This is just one more case of injustice and impunity by the rulers of Addis Ababa. The Prosperity Party wants to be remembered this way. That is their fate apparently. Peace.
