Opinion: Rodrigo be consistent

The Philippines President Rodrigo Roa Duterte have today been inconsistent. He has released a “Message” supporting the press and being a genuine part of the World Press Freedom Day of 2021. He has come out with a positive statement, which seems like what you should say. However, on the same day he retaliates against the ABS-CBN. Which he has had an issue with for years. Just like his government have gone after Rappler too. Not like he values them or their freedom of the press.

These two companies have gotten into trouble for their reporting. Their actions and their issues with Rodrigo. Yes, ABS-CBN had really vicious adverts during the Presidential Campaign before Duterte was elected. Still, the state have retaliated against the media network and media house of ABS-CBN.

He is the Head of State but can never overcome the shortcomings of others in the past. The President never have the ability to let bygones be bygones. That is a sign of weakness and not strength. If he wants to seem like a big-man and a powerful individual. This is not it. He is like a whiny teen who is still mad at the crush who never returned the feelings or the appreciation of the other one. Duterte is furious that someone did him dirty and cannot overcome it. That is just tragic. Knowing the power of his office and all his allies across the Republic.

If he believes in freedom of the press. Prove it. Not just challenge the franchise of ABS-CBN again. Not go after the Rappler like you have done. If you believes in these things. Not only praise and behind the “yes-man” but let “nay-sayers” get a voice. Still, that is apparently a lot to ask for. Since you are just brutal and doesn’t have a heart to act otherwise.

As the President he can be responsible and wise, but this is just foolish. This man could be so much better and his advisors could have given him a heads-up. Seems like they fear challenging him or question his actions. The President is praising the press, but at the same day saying one of the biggest media network shouldn’t get licence to operate. That shows how ruthless he is and not caring about these values. These values cannot matter to him… when he wants to suffocate and silence the ABS-CBN.

Duterte could show some humility and be the better man, but that is apparently to much to ask. The ABS-CBN know what they triggered and did, but the President should know the dirty game of politics. As he has been involved in that for so many years in Davao and later in Manilla. He should know this perfectly well. Instead of going after them, but he should undress them and show them where they were wrong. To take away their ability to report, have licences and go after their heads. His just showing why people is questing his paths in the first place.

Rodrigo needs to chill, eat some adobo and drink a red horse beer. That would be healthy for him. I doubt he would do so, but in this instance. He should be the bigger man, but when it comes to him. That’s too much to ask apparently. Peace.

Philippines: SELDA – On Macli-ing Dulag’s 41st death anniversary: SELDA vows to resist fascism and tyranny of Duterte regime (24.04.2021)

On the 41st death anniversary and martyrdom of Macli-ing Dulag, Cordillera hero, former martial law victims under the human rights group Samahan ng Ex-Detainees Laban sa Detensyon at Aresto (SELDA) lambasted the Duterte administration for its “desperate efforts to twist history and for its continuous attacks against the Filipino people.”

“Today, we honor the bravery and leadership of Macli-ing Dulag against the evil schemes of former dictator Ferdinand Marcos. Together with the indigenous communities of Cordillera, he had shown that a fascist dictator is no match against the united people fighting for their rights,” said Danilo dela Fuente, the group’s vice chairperson.

Dulag led the collective opposition of the Kalinga and Bontoc tribes against the Chico River Dam Project, a flagship project of the Marcos dictatorship during Martial Law. Estimates suggested that had it been built, it would have destroyed 1,400 square kilometers of rice terraces, communal forests and sacred burial grounds and displaced through flooding an estimated 100,000 people living along the river. He was assassinated on April 24, 1980 by military elements from the 4th Infantry Division, and his murder was considered as a watershed moment in the coverage of killings and other human rights violations under the Martial Law.

However, last January 7, the heroes monument erected by the people was desecrated by the Kalinga Philippine National Police forces. It was later put up again by the people of Kalinga on the Day of Valor, April 9.

“By putting up the heroes’ monument again, the people of Cordillera victoriously frustrated Duterte’s futile attempt to revise history and erase the indigenous people’s rich history of courage against the atrocities during Martial Law. His legacy – resisting fascism and uniting the people to assert their rights – lives on to this day, “ Dela Fuente added.

The SELDA official also noted that such legacy is also reflected in the community pantries set up all over the country, and is also feared by another fascist regime under Rodrigo Duterte.

“The resistance against the Chico Dam Project and the creation of different community pantries have both shown the Filipino people’s indomitable spirit in relation to their economic rights and needs, albeit in different forms. The fascist Marcosian tyrant Rodrigo Duterte, in his desperate attempt to hide his political impotence, is currently using his minions in the National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (NTF-ELCAC) to harass these organizers through spreading malicious lies and blatant red-tagging. However, such smear campaigns expose the administration’s inefficacy to address the pandemic and the economic slump and strengthen the people’s clamor for genuine social change,” he stressed.

“As we remember Dulag’s martyrdom and the Cordillera people’s heroic resistance against the Marcos’ martial rule, we are also reminded to continuously resist all forms of historical lies, tyranny and fascism. We vow to strengthen our assertion of people’s rights, and continue in demanding for accountability and justice in all forms. We will never forget,” he ended.

Philippines: Duterte is out-quangoing himself

Today President Rodrigo Roa Duterte created a new entity to oversee other entities and in the end find out if other entities are duplicated. In a sense that is what he has done. To simplify it even more. The President has appointed one dude and his side-kicks to overlook another collective, which in the end shall see if other agencies, parastatals or government entities are efficient or delivering public services.

What is striking here. The President is creating a office with several of underling. To add as addition to the Anti-Red Tape Authority (ARTA) and the Civil Service Commission (CSC) who works on these things already.

The CSC already has programs and directly active in this field. The CSC works on the Service Delivery Excellence Program (SDEP) and Contact Center ng Bayan (CCB), which are both focused on this and supposed to help the state to function more properly.

Now, as of today, the President is initiating yet another to combat the same thing. Just to make it more complicated the newly create office to help the ARTA and CSC is operating like this:

The Office of the Presidential Adviser on Streamlining of Government Processes (OPASGP) is hereby created under the OP (Office of the President). The OPASGP shall be headed by the Presidential Adviser on Streamlining of Government Processes (PASGP)”.

That is the new overseer and overhead of all the other agencies that is working on the same. The Philippines has already as stated the CSC and ARTA. They have mandates and programs working directly to make things efficient and get feedback from the general public like the CCB under CSC. Therefore, it seems like the President is just creating another entity because some of his boys needs a job and he can appoint them.

The new person looking into this will be stationed under the Office of the President and will head his own thing. While his supposed to be advising the existing ARTA. What is striking and funny to me… is that its not involving the CSC who working on similar mandate. This is separate entities that is functioning partly for the same reason, but still they are not legally connected. Which is weird when the President orders not have things duplicated in the state.

So, it is ironic that the President creates another agency today. When he has others who is already doing it. Especially, when the end goal is similar. That is really special and should be questioned. We can wonder if the President is just hiring his cronies and finding them new homes. Instead of streamlining or cutting the red-tape. Peace.
