Ethiopia: Oromo Legacy Leadership and Advocacy Association (OLLAA) – Oromo Civilians continue to be Targeted by Fano Militia (07.11.2023)

“There are widespread reports that the AfDB Group Ethiopia Country Office has suspended operations due to an attack on the Country Manager & Deputy Director General, Dr. Abdul Kamara. According to multiple news reports, Dr. Kamara was attacked by the security personnel of finance minister Ahmed Shide after Dr. Kamara questioned the Ministry of Finance about $5.2 million that was supposedly paid to AfDB, but appears to have been embezzled” (Biruk Haregu, 06.11.2023).
This here sets a bad precedence and is a sign of the times. There is only more trouble ahead and Ethiopia isn’t getting any better. Especially, when diplomatic and multi-national institutions like the Africa Development Bank County Manager is attacked and has to flee the Republic.
The Prosperity Party that needs donors and fiscal stimulus to keep the budgets a float. As the war-economy is biting and dwindling fresh funds. The FDRE needs partners and support for their development projects and in general domestic expenditure, which isn’t being covered easily these days. Therefore, the reports of an attack on the AfDB says something about the desperation of the PP at the moment.
They are willing to go down to this level of thuggery. The PP is acting vile and vicious against a supposed ally. This is a bank serving interests and finding out ways to invest in Ethiopia. That’s what the likes of AfDB does and its serves with great terms too on their loans. Therefore, to muffle and silence it… is outrageous and the other Development Banks should take note of this.
This here shouldn’t remain silent, but be loud. It shows what the state is willing to do. They can apparently just attack someone and do it easily. AfDB and no one else should worry about their safety, but apparently they need to. No one is safe and no is untouchable in the Republic. Peace.

“The Government signed a ports and transit services agreement with the State of Eritrea on 20 January 1992. According to the agreement, the ports of Assab and Massawa in Eritrea shall serve Ethiopia as transit ports for surface transport of goods originating from and destined for Ethiopia. It was provided in the agreement that the contracting parties shall endeavour to take all measures necessary for the expeditious movement of traffic and to avoid unnecessary transit delays of goods passing through their respective territories. The parties have agreed to simplify and harmonize transport and transit documents and procedures to facilitate the smooth flow of goods in transit. Similar agreements were signed for the road, air and communication services between the two countries” (…) “For years, Ethiopia’s foreign trade enjoyed constant access to the sea and foreign markets mainly through theports of Assab, Massawa, and Djibouti. The port of Assab, which has seven general cargo berths and well equipped handling facilities, alone handled over 75 percent of the country’s sea-borne dry cargo trade that flows via the Red Sea Corridor while Massawa and Djibouti shared the rest. Coffee, the main Ethiopian export, was mostly shipped via Assab, enjoying the preferential tariff and other advantages the port used to offer. The nation’s crude oil import is shipped in via this port and the products are distributed from there to the hinterlands by road after refinement. Petroleum products needed for use in the Eastern Regions of Ethiopia are trans-shipped through the port of Djibouti” (United Nations Conference on Trade and Development – Transit transport system in Ethiopia, 06.02.1995).
As the warning lights are going off and the Horn of Africa might seem more conflict. The warlord of Addis Ababa is never finished. Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali who aren’t finished with the internal conflict in Amhara. Is trying to settle grievances in Tigray and has problematic affairs elsewhere in the Republic. That man is trying to forge another narrative and make reasons for an invasion.
An invasion of Eritrea, either for the bounds of owning ports or “Afar Unity”. Suddenly he cares about the people of Afar. The people he didn’t mind or work hard to defend when the internal war was going on in the Tigray region. That time it was the front-lines and several of zones was damaged in the Afar region. A region that was hit hard and also suffered as a consequence of the war in Tigray. They also fought and stood tall in the midst of adversity. However, now after the conflict, he suddenly cares about them and want their loyalty.
Yet, it is all for the megalomania of Abiy. He wants the prestige and greatness. No matter what agreement or favourable tariffs. That doesn’t really matter. He wants to be crowned king and be the greatest ruler. Even if he rules over dust after burning down the whole empire. He don’t mind death and massacres. Not as long as his the King and they are his peasants. That’s all that counts in the grand scheme of things.
Abiy will use Massawa and Assab as reasons for conquest. Even if it is re-starting an old conflict with Eritrea. The ownership question isn’t really that important, but he will fight over it. Just so he can be sovereign and be supreme. He will order soldiers and hope for allies to tag along. Because, he need troops and need mechanical divisions to create enough fronts to have an advantage. While he still fights in Amhara region and never been able to stagnate or silence the Oromo Liberation Army. Therefore, Abiy is going overboard and over reaching. He doesn’t have the capacity, but he don’t mind.
Abiy wants the glory and the tales that he “built” and “annexed” a Great Ethiopia. In that picture he needs a palace and access to the Red Sea. For him it doesn’t matter at what cost or consequences. No, that is just results of his orders. There are other people who will pay the price of their lives and livelihood. As long as he can stand by the waterfront and proclaim the divine power or ownership of it.
While a stranger and a random bloke would be happy for the agreements made in the past. Which favours the Ethiopian exports or imports through these ports. We know the FDRE has made agreements with Djibouti and used that as main ports for years now. However, Abiy wants to change that and have total control of it. Not just being a silent partner and a trading partner. He wants a say… even when Eritrea has allowed and accepted great terms. As this is beneficial for both nations. Peace.

“Those who keep asking ‘how we survive as a Republic Tigray without port, like any land-locked states, we have options to buy port service from those who own it. But if they refused to let us, well, we will see about that .…” – Mehari Yohannes, Tigray Independent Movement (15.05.2020).
It has now been reported that the political leader, the founder and the chairman of Tigray Independence Party (TIP), Mehari Yohannes is now living in exile. The reports that is online is that his currently living in India. However, nothing has been said for certainty. Though some sources say his there for “furthering education”. The reports said he left Tigray region because of the political and security challenges that it faces. Meaning he feared for his own life and livelihood.
Mehari Yohannes has been a maverick in the political spectrum. Though very little can be said about his achievements or his concrete policies. Some said his a “fortune teller” and a man who could read the “grapevine”. Regardless if that is true or not. His party haven’t achieved that much and need support together with other parties to make significant headlines.
We can with certain say that after the Cessation of Hostilities Agreement there haven’t been genuine peace and neither strides for change. The current Interim Regional Administration (IRA) have little powers and uses it stifle dissidents. Therefore, TIP and other Opposition Parties haven’t been allowed to demonstrate or protest the failure of rebuilding after the Tigray conflict. Neither has all the parties of invasion left territories or allowed things to return to normalcy. Meaning the region is hit with starvation, lack of resources and it’s basic needs after the conflict.
With that in mind, it isn’t strange that “the Nuclear Boy” left the scene. He went into safety and found a safe-haven. Where he can now spew his rhetoric and ideas over YouTube or anywhere else online. Meanwhile he don’t have to worry about getting touched or detained for his political stances.
A man whose always “Tigray First” and puts that ahead of everything else. A political leader that certainly has a following, but how big is uncertain. Not like there is level playing field or the Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF) have opened up the gates. Therefore, it is hard to know how popular someone really are and how big the party really is.
Alas, what we do know… is that him together with his alliances in Baytona and Salsay Weyane has been helpful. It has also made him more prominent and a voice to be reckon with.
We can just wonder how long he can sustain himself in exile and what sorts of funding that will keep him there. As a politician and a leader of a party. It cannot be easy living thousands of miles away. Especially, when the “Tigray First” and the battle for “Independence” is far away.
He who is one who has fought against and wanted the TPLF out of power for so long. While only accepting it, as long as the Tigray had more power within the EPRDF. Now that is gone… he and others hoped it was their turn.
However, the TPLF isn’t giving way and won’t go away that easily. They haven’t had power and been political savvy for decades without a reason. That’s why TIP has to be smarter and it could be costly to run away. Regardless of that, his safety does matter and so does it for everyone else.
He was lucky that he was able to flee. Other couldn’t or have no option to do so. That means he has some privilege. Which we can wonder where he got that from. Peace.

The Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali is the perfection of a warlord. He thrives on it and that’s how he gets adrenalin. Because, nothing else seems to work in the Republic. The man has to send soldiers, tanks and drones to any location. Just to prove a point and hope that the deceased was someone he needed to finish off.
It is tragic and sad… but here we are… a man who has fought in nearly every region of his Republic. A man who has had two major conflicts within in Tigray and Amhara. Who has issued skirmishes and monopolized state brutality in Oromia and Ogaden. That man seems to have a new conflict in sight.
Just as the bloodshed of Tigray, Amhara, Oromia or Ogaden isn’t enough. He needs another war. This time with yet another former ally, this time Asmara and Eritrea. It is supposed to be about connectivity and rights for ports. He says it is about not being landlocked and having access to the Red Sea. However, for all we know… that could be bogus. Just like the excuses he had for invading and destroying Tigray.
Abiy can use any reason or excuse to get it his way. He don’t mind burying people alive and seeing their villages burn. As long as he plays King and is crowned like one. That is all he needs while the bullets fly and people die. It is just who he is…
Abiy is now striking back at Afewerki. The ally who fought and used their military in the Tigray region. The ones who decided not to partake or be a part of the conflict of Amhara region. It might be a reason for why Abiy wants to retaliate. He thought the Eritrean army would be on his side no matter what, but apparently they have some boundaries too. The Eritrean wanted to avenge and destroy the TPLF. That’s why they joined in war and they felt betrayed by the Cessation of Hostilities Agreement in Pretoria, South Africa. Therefore, there is petty reasons if any party needs any.
These two nations has an Algiers Agreement from 12th December 2000, one vital provision in that agreement says this: “The parties shall permanently terminate military hostilities between themselves. Each party shall refrain from the threat or use of force against the other” (Algiers, 2000).
We have seen that this sort of been violated in the Tigray conflict, though not directly at Ethiopian National Defence Forces (ENDF) but it was used against Ethiopian civilians or Tigray Defence Force (TDF). Meaning the Eritrean army did violate the terms here, but doing so in coordination of the Ethiopian allies in Addis Ababa.
We know the parties has had skirmishes and such over Badme. That has been a part of the Tigray region, which Eritrea has claimed it belong too. However, this haven’t been settled and been a torn between the nations. While seemingly the peace-offering and secret agreement between Abiy and Afewerki did wonders.
Now just mere years after that and the dust has settled. The wars are taken a toll and the leaders of Addis Ababa needs another enemy. Not like Abiy haven’t created enough victims and enemies within over the years. He has certainly plenty who are scorned and who has lost their loved ones. Just so the Prime Minister could prove a point and be the almighty of the nation.
Now, the guns are turning against Asmara. It is done for “Afar Unity” or over Assab Port. Regardless of the excuse. It will be done because Abiy wants another victory and be great. He has suffered losses and humiliation by never being able to actually win a conflict. The PM is just losing and not winning. He gotten to weaken the TPLF and the Regional Government there… but they are still not up to terms or close associates of any kind. Just temporary friends in the quagmire that the PM has created.
We are now here… Afar region paid a price in the Tigray war. So, did Amhara and the Amhara are now former allies turned enemies. In the midst of that internal war. The PM is busy scheming his next move. Just like he was never able to end the Oromo Liberation Army (OLA). He will not be able to finish of FANO or the Amhara Popular Front (APF). These are here to stay and got popular support in their region. Therefore, he can either reconcile to their demands or continue the battle. Alas, there within is the problem. Abiy cannot afford to be weak or settle. That will be his loss.
That’s why it’s easier to call and order another conflict. Wage another war and over either land, sea or “unity”. Even if the “unity” of a ethnic group is a lie. That is just a pawn and they didn’t get much help or support in the Tigray war. No, they got burned, tested and was on the frontline. While Abiy waited to the last minute to give support or send troops to help out. That’s how he has done it and now he hopes their cause can give him enough manpower or troops to fight Eritrea.
It is bonkers and will be his downfall. This war will damage Abiy and be the final straw. He will not have anywhere to turn and the guns will be blazing around him. It will end up in mutiny and a full fledge crisis. The economy will crash and he will have nowhere to go.
Abiy will risk it all and gain nothing. It is a futile enterprise and he doesn’t have what it takes. It doesn’t matter if the Eritrean army is weak or without modern equipment. The ENDF and allies will fight on their turf and their homeland. If the ENDF was struggling in Tigray. Well, they will fight a fierce combats in Eritrea. The Red Sea will be far away and the rivers of blood will be close.
There will be a bloodshed and by how Abiy is governing. Every corner of the Republic and everywhere surrounding him. There has to be conflict and he has ensure there is a lost generation. Who either got lost in battle or lost in the cross-fire. Peace.

“Our recent request for access to the sea has raised fears that Ethiopia is leading an invasion. I want to assure you that Ethiopia will not assert its interests through war” – Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali (26.10.2023)
Nations and diplomacy isn’t done like a light switch. As a Nation you can build up trust and a reputation. Where you have beneficial and cordial agreement, which is mutual and profitable for both parties. This being trade, cultural exchanges or other arrangements, which makes relations blossom between two nations.
However, lately there been brewing scepticism and worry about the intentions of Addis Ababa. No one should blame them for having ill feeling either. When the Nations of the Horn of Africa pushes back and says “no” to Ethiopia. The Prosperity Party and the regime of Addis isn’t getting “love” but getting “rebuked” or lectured by its neighbours. That being Djibouti, Somaliland, Somalia or Eritrea.
While the Prime Minister spoke these words and tried to “chill” the tension down on the 116th Army Day with his speech. After he earlier in the month in a rant in Parliament spoke of being prisoners and the need for access to ports in Parliament. That’s why we shouldn’t take it lightly or with ease that he back-pedal now.
The PM has spoken softly about peace dozens of times, but he has issued war. The PM is a warlord and could easily order another one for the idea of grand Ethiopia and have direct access to the “red sea”. The ENDF did chant while marching “Red Sea is Ours” today. Therefore, the speech is just to buy momentarily “peace” and await the right moment to strike.
The trust between Addis Ababa and Asmara is fading already. The Eritrean media is already leaking and speaking ill of Abiy. They are already targeting and speaking of secrets, which it has kept until they felt betrayed. That’s what is happening and certainly the idea of giving up sovereign territory will be fought over and be bloody.
The PM has already enough conflict to catch on to from within. He has ensured the nation to have two civil wars. One which is he is currently preoccupied with in Amhara region. While his partly done with the one in the Tigray Region. However, he has guerrillas and militias aiming at him in Oromia and problematic issues in the Ogaden. So, it isn’t like he has everything under wraps in the Republic at the current time. The PM will have several of fronts and enemies aiming at him. The army will be stretched and the plights of the civilians will persist.
Regardless of all of that. It is the prestige and the big-man in him. He wants to achieve something and be remembered. Just like he has planted trees and been part of the green initiative. The ones that makes for remembering his greatness. While that will also fade and become small-fry. He needs to conquer and prove his name is worthy. That’s why his aiming for this and his party has dreamed about it for years. They have been awaiting to launch and have the ability to have an actual navy. This has been reported years ago and it has already a logo too. That’s how the PP and the PM works.
They have most likely preplanned an attack or thought of a way to outsmart their former allies in Eritrea. This is what they did in the Tigray region and when the invasion happened. They went in from several of fronts to conquer it quickly. The same has to be done with Eritrea. That would be the second ally of Abiy that he betrays and goes lethal against. Just like he has turned his guns against FANO and Amhara Popular Front (APF). The ones who fought with him in the Tigray war.
That’s why I don’t trust his words. They are not honest. Abiy can lie and deceive. That’s why he speaks poetically about “peace” but orders mechanical divisions to the borders and has drones ready to ambush whoever that is his target. Peace.
