Yesterday, Eskinder Nega suddenly released an audio-clip, which was leaked from Washington D.C., United States of America. We don’t know when it was taped or at what exact date it was recorded. However, it was published yesterday. The former politician and firebrand activist, Eskinder Nega who has become a militia leader of the Amhara Popular Front. The APF which consist of Fano and former Amhara Regional Special Forces. Both outfits that was either to be disbanded or become a part of Ethiopian National Defence Forces (ENDF).
These are now former brothers in arms, which are now bitter enemies. The warfare is continuing in the Amhara Region. Yesterday’s audio clip is set out to galvanize and inspire the troops. This is an initial war-cry. A plea and the a message of hope to the ones fighting in the trenches. That’s what Nega is doing. What is striking is that Nega wanted to annihilate Tigray, but now attacks the same methods used against Amhara. It just shows the hypocrisy of leaders like him. Both are wrong, but he shows the Amhara chauvinism, which is so prevalent within Amhara officials. They knew what they were doing in Tigray and what sort of war they participated in. Now that the same army is attacking them and theirs. The voice of reason changes. It is a bitter truth, but the Amhara ushered in together with ENDF the Medemer Terror in Tigray. Now the Medemer Terror is entering Amhara and it’s as horrific as it was elsewhere.
This is the transcript of his message from yesterday…
“Greetings, esteemed people of Ethiopia, and esteemed people of Amhara who always defend Ethiopia to death. This era’s story of David & Goliath is undergoing between the Amhara and ENDF. We have ENDF that is armed to the teeth with all kinds of modern weapons and the Amhara who are armed with the will to live with dignity. With this picture, the only reason the ENDF was not able to swiftly gain victory and made the Amhara kneel is because the Divine Intervention by almighty God. Because of that, I want to give thanks to God Almighty on behalf of the Amhara who have just cause of demanding the right to live, and their supporters everywhere. The last 30 days have proven it is impossible to suppress the Amhara people’s questions through force. There are some declarations from the international community that took this very fact into consideration. The Amhara Popular Front is following this development attentively. All the Amhara wishes for Ethiopia is lasting peace, never to be devastated by war. While the Amhara’s desire is lasting peace, the people is forced to defend itself from the unabated massacres based solely on its identity as a people. The fundamental question now is, the problem of genocide that is presenting great danger for the survival of the Amhara as a people should be addressed profoundly. Obviously this question cannot be addressed by the government sending military force in Amhara; not now, not in the future. Until the federal government realizes this and come to its senses, the Amhara will continue to defend himself with all he has. During this period, the Amhara people whose struggle is for its survival as a people in a free Ethiopia, asks the people of Ethiopia and international community to stand in solidarity. Thank you!” – Eskinder Nega (01.09.2023).
We know there is a harsh reality. Food prices are souring. Roads are closed and the conflict is spiralling out of hand. The ENDF acts like it has defeated the APF/Fano, but we know that isn’t true. The ENDF tries to get rid of enemy, but it has a hard time. That’s because of the will of defending their own. Just like the Tripartite Alliance struggled to take and get a grasp of the whole Tigray region from the Tigray Defence Force (TDF). The same is now happening in Amhara.
In Amhara the para-military and militia tactics is hard for a conventional army to conquer. They can move much easier and hide quickly. While the army is in the open and follows certain protocol for their warfare. Tactics the Fano knows and the APF has good knowledge of. Since they were allies and worked on one simple objective not to long ago.
I am in solidarity with the innocent lives. The ones scorn by this conflict. All the ones who are caught in cross-fire and citizens who are hurt. The Fano and APF I’m not that sympathetic of for one simple reason. They haven’t taken any accountability or acted in good faith in concern to Tigray. They only rebelled when they were losing power and becoming less important to Addis Ababa. When Prime Minister Abiy didn’t need them and they had to disarm. That’s when they turned their guns against the state. This is the gist of things.
The Amhara region shouldn’t be a war-zone. Neither should the Tigray region. Nevertheless, the Amhara elite and nationalist had no issues waging war in Tigray. Now they are feeling the same ills and injustice, as the Tigray did. They are feeling the same impunity and genocidal affairs, which they dismissed in the name of “unity”. The wars of the North is haunting themselves. They are creating ghosts and scores death. That’s what they do…
Eskinder Nega is within his right to call out and want justice. However, he would never have asked for the same for Tigray. We all know that. It’s very selective and such are dangerous. Just as Amhara deserves peace and righteous path to live. The same did Tigray and they are also still hurting, because of the conflict, which Amhara participated and part took in. Therefore, my sympathy only goes so far. Both are wrongs, but here in this conflict. They both have bloodstains on their hands and they should be held responsible for just that. Peace.
