The infamous media-house, syndicated right-wing conspiracy wheeling machine of a so-called news-organization, called the InfoWars with Alex Jones as their head. He is now sued by the cartoonist behind Pepe the Frog. The one behind it is the artist Matt Furie, who has made a famous meme and also copyrighted the rights of usage of the Pepe the Frog. It is within that bound that the artist and his lawyers has sued Infowars.
InfoWars has made a poster with the frog together with Donald Trump, Milo Yiannopolous, Roger Stone and also Ann Coulter. With the slogan on “Make America Great Again”. The slogan of Trump during his campaign. That everyone knows and isn’t that strange for a right-wing page to sell posters with that, but what is special is that in the midst of this they have put Pepe the Frog in red. This poster was sold for $ 17.76 each, meaning that InfoWars are earning money on other people’s craft, because even other hatred groups have been using the frog, as they wanted to make it as sign of being deplorable’s.
Even the Alt-Right hate group write this on their page about the cartoon: “Pepe the Frog is a cartoon character that has become a popular Internet meme (often referred to as the “sad frog meme” by people unfamiliar with the name of the character). The character first appeared in 2005 in the on-line cartoon Boy’s Club” (Anti-Defamation League). So clearly, the hatred and the usage of it, has spiraled to a level where the groups who Furie doesn’t associate with are using his craft in their missions.
Therefore, because of that, even Alex Jones picked it up and started selling it on his online-shop, who sells anything to trade some ill-gotten gains to his media-house. So InfoWars is one of many, who has misused the cartoon in their propaganda and their internet trolling of people. They are now throwing shade on Furie, even Jones has said its fraudulent today on his show. That is because he cannot stomach to pay damages and stand for decision to trade posters with the cartoon on.
The ironic thing, is that no-one has asked permission or the usage of it, and these groups who hasn’t asked to use the cartoon. The publishing and the use of it in a form and messages that counters the artist believe, political stance or even decency. Anyone want to avoid that and Furie is right to fight for his craft, in court and in public. So his cartoon isn’t becoming racist, but a public joy and fun cartoon.
Instead, it is misused in the wrong narrative, we can hope the Court let the artist win the case and let InfoWars pay for damages, so Furie can continue to sue people misusing his cartoon without permission in the near future. So, that is can be associated with other people, than the ones who are White Supremacists and the racists of America.
It seems little and not so important, but the artist and his rights should be hold, he should get this and bag-it, just for the sense of his rights to decide where his craft goes and who can use it for profit. That is natural. That is ordinary.
InfoWars, like ADL, never asked and just using it in their favor. Not considering the implication of the creator or the ones who made the cartoon. That is something they should have and Furie has the right to sue them. So he can get his cartoon back and get it within the will of the creator. Who then decides who is allowed to trade and to publish the cartoon.
Pepe the Frog, might seem like just another meme, but this here is serious. Peace.
