“Some of you think by only praying, you will go to heaven yet God created all of us in His image. If God created us in his image, why are others rich yet you are poor? God will punish you for embarrassing Him by being poor and you will not go to heaven. Those who think they will only go to heaven by being so prayerful should forget it” – State Minister Haruna Kyeyune Kasolo
I have a feeling the State Minister of Microfinance, Haruna Kasolo should become a pastor. The way his singing a gospel. Kenneth Hagin and Kenneth Copeland would be proud of Kasolo utterance lately. Speaking like a flexing preacher.
Kasolo wants so badly to be a TV Pastor, be the likes of Hagin, Copeland and Hinn. That’s his emulating them while speaking of the relaunched SACCOs, NAADs and OWC under the umbrella of Emyooga.
Just to explain where I’m coming from, Harvard Divinity School defines it like this:
“The Prosperity Gospel (PG) is a fast-growing theologically conservative movement frequently associated with Pentecostalism, evangelicalism, and charismatic Christianity that emphasizes believers’ abilities to transcend poverty and/or illness through devotion and positive confession. The PG is popular among impoverished communities, where at best it is considered to offer the poor a means of imagining and reaching for better lives (at times accompanied by sound financial advice), and at worst is criticized as predatory and manipulative, particularly when churches or pastors require heavy tithing” (Harvard Divinity School – Glossary Terms – The Prosperity Gospel).
I feel Kasolo does the same thing. His following the PG to the Tee. He should open up a church somewhere and become a pastor when his time as Minister is over. The church can be named the Wealth Creation Church (WCC) or the Emooyga Baptist Chuch (EBC).
He has already started his journey. As his preaching the prosperity gospel. That the poor has to sow their seeds and tithing to the congregation. Maybe that way he can keep relevance and have a career.
Just to prove my point, Hagin Ministries wrote this: “Start where you are. Be faithful to obey the Word by paying your tithes and giving offerings. And be obedient to the leading of the Holy Spirit when He directs you specifically to give. You can’t out-give God. If you sow seeds bountifully in faith and obedience, you will reap an abundant harvest of blessings!” (Hagin – ‘Investing God’s Way’).
Copeland for instance wrote this: “I lost a job and went broke” they’ll say. “That was when the Holy Spirit was finally able to teach me to put God fist in my life. That proves poverty can sometimes be a BLESSING of the LORD”. Such statements sound spiritual, but they are plain wrong. Going broke is never a BLESSING. It’s a curse” (Kenneth Copeland – ‘Project Eden – Filling the earth with the glory of God’, September 2011).
When seeing how Hagin and Copeland writes. It is similar to what Kasolo was saying. The PG Teaching isn’t new, but when a State Minister uses the same language. You know your selling tricks and schemes. When your using the tricks of false prophets. What sort of policy are you selling?
This is snake-oil salesmanship. Kasolo must be so proud.
So when are you becoming a Pastor or a PG Preacher? That is your next career, I suppose. Peace.
“During the tenure of the NRM government, poverty is by choice. For anyone to remain poor is their choice. How can you say you are still poor yet there are many initiatives introduced by government to alleviate poverty. If you had a restaurant on top of your current job, you would not be so much affected by the pandemic and the resultant lockdown. That is the mindset we are talking about. It is your choice” – State Minister on Microfinance Haruna Kasolo (14.07.2020).
Sometime someone says something really outrageous and insane. State Minister Kasolo is one of them. As he launched the Emyooga, the same Operation Wealth Creation, SACCOs and NAADs poverty alleviation tool the National Resistance Movement (NRM) have used for ages without any results.
It is like changing name on the same thing, but expecting different results. Buying the same sort of players with the same skills and expecting to win the league. You got to pick better, more talented and experienced ones to win a league. However, the NRM just switches a name, relaunching it and calling it the winning formula.
That is why for a government ruling the Republic since 1986. A government that has promised to be middle income country for ages. A party and President promising wealth, jobs and a new industrial revolution. Have certainly not achieved that. When poverty is a choice. The inconvenient, gig-economy and hand-to-mouth. The lack of institutions and policies to change this.
However, blaming it on the citizens, the peasants and the ones suffering in it. That is such a Noble approach. While spreading the news of Emyooga. The bastard child of OWC, the SACCOS and NAADs. The newest Presidential Directive to dodge poverty. If the previous ones didn’t work. Don’t expect the same tools going to work in 2020.
The Minister can lie to himself. Like he made a choice and dodged the bullet. He bought the bulletproof vest and got away from the suffering. No, he just joined the ruling regime and drank their Kool-Aid.
Instead of inspiring people. The Minister demeaned them. Insulted them and calling them lazy. That they are idle and its their fault they don’t have money. Not like its a robust economy or exponential growth in the near future. That overnight the NRM will create the Shangri-la and the Singapore of Africa. No, that is disturbing the eating, kickbacks and general looting of the Movement. This is why the State Minister has to blame someone.
The ones his blaming is the average citizen, the peasant and the ones who are struggling to get by. That is disgraceful. Therefore, is the up-coming slogan for the NRM: “Poverty is your choice”. It is maybe not as clinging as Steady Progress, but it cannot be true. When a minister tells that living poorly is choice. No one is choosing that, but that is the reality they are living in. Not by will, but by default. Everyone wants to live with comfort and safety. Not wonder if they are eating the next day. How foolish is the Minister?
His a fool with a title. Peace.
“I got pennies for my thoughts, now I’m rich” – 50 Cent on ‘Patiently Waiting’ (2003)
This Get Rich or Die Tryin’ fix of the government isn’t working. They have not learned the skill from the G-Unit front-man 50 Cent nor anyone else. This is just following a boring pattern. That the government launches a new Presidential Initiative before the campaign season is also predictable.
The National Resistance Movement (NRM) has so many schemes going on. They have used so many different types ways to get people out of poverty. You need a separate dictionary to remember them all. It is a own lingo for government officials and the likes.
The Savings and Credit Cooperative Societies (SACCOs) was launched in 1992 in the Republic. The second started with Entandikwa in 1995. When that ended in 2002, they launched National Agricultural Advisory Services (NAADS). In 2004 they launched Rural Micro Finance Project. In the meantime there been launches of Micro Finances schemes for the public from donors and NGOs. In 2013 there was two new schemes, it was the Youth Livelihood Programme and Operation Wealth Creation (OWC).
So, in June 2019 the President finally promised the magic bullet to end poverty. Now in July 2020 the Presidential Initiative Emyooga, which is a mix of OWC and Job Creation. They are now launching it and doing so ahead of elections. Seemingly, the Office of President through its Residential District Commanders (RDCs), the Office of the Minister of State in charge Microfinance and the Microfinance Support Centre Ltd (MSC). Therefore, we know the Presidents involvement in it. Since they are using these means like OWC. We just know Gen. Salim Selah is part of this too. It wouldn’t be in this Republic if he wasn’t involved in it.
It is kind of rich that in 2020 they are relaunching the OWC in a suit calling it Emyooga. They are dropping billions of shillings on, as it was fitted into the Monetary Policy Papers for the National Budget of 2020/21.
We know this is a campaign thing. To booster a failing a project of the state. The OWC have already struggled. There been reports of failures with the OWC. The same with service delivery of SACCOs, NAADs and too.
The Emyooga will follow the same procedure as the other ones. A big show for the launch. Promise of funds, eradicate poverty and the nation to a middle income country. However, the lie is that these schemes makes the middle-men rich. A way to eat of the state and not users. The ones getting the tenders, the ones skimming the funds. It always goes that way. Also, makes for good publicity. Even if there is little to no proven results.
That is why, I’m skeptical today. Seen this before, heard the narratives before. This is just buying time. Not building things that are sustainable. A short term money infused into an area. Before leaving to the next. Without any consideration of the windfall, of the moment it runs out or what to do after the short-term spending.
That is why, so many of these schemes haven’t worked. There been no long-term plan and if they had. There was no real implementation or will to do so. Because, if they did, it would have costed and would have possibly delivered more. However, that wasn’t in the interest of the state nor its stakeholders. Since they need new schemes and new methods to get a kick-back or a pay-off for their duties. Peace.
“The NRM struggled to usher peace in the country. Peace ignited infrastructure development. The remaining task is wealth creation mobilisation at household level. A person with a reasonable piece of land is able to handle any agricultural practice” – President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni on the 5th August 2019 in Bundibugyo district
If there is anyone who promotes steady progress, must see the last three months as free-fall and as a weakness. The Museveni Wealth Creation Tour, which needed billions upon billions extra paid for, as he opened municipal roads built on donor funds and other projects, which is minor. But big enough for photo-ops.
The President usually came with the same swagger and talking-points, its sort of the same statements, as the citizens will create wealth on small farming with the usage of the right cash-crops. This has been spread to all sorts of initiatives and state sponsored agricultural benefits. Not that they have worked and have failed, one after another. Just like it was meant to be, than the state launches another one battling rural poverty, another donor funded enterprise and gets seedlings, tractors and whatnot to Gulu/Lira. Two years later, the whole cooperation is dead and the President has to come a revive the dead.
This is happening again and again. He comes with small donations, some insignificant changes, promise challenging different. Blames leaders, the Residential District Commanders, the Opposition politicians and even some of the locals ones get caught in the blender too. Until it makes a badly tasting stew, that he serves with a little bit of ignorance of the actual needs. Because, if he had cared about that, the President would have served that a long time ago.
The state has enough schemes, Operation Wealth Creations, NAADs and SACCOs, but none of these is cutting the chase. They are just not up to it and it seems they are there to create a money laundering operation. Because, the state is never up to it and seems to be keen to deliver. They don’t have the needed expertise, the allocations in time or even ordering the right type of crop for the right soil/climate or historical production in that area. It seems something fails, neither the hook or by the crook.
Therefore, it must be boring to scream the same message, that he has spoken of for 3 decades, the message and the promise of greener pasture. The promise, that if you follow me and plant these green seeds, your will grow profits. You grandchildren will eat and they will be able to sell. But we have seen how the state functions.
As the state supported the Soroti Fruit Factory, however, the local farmers produced the right type of fruits, but the factory couldn’t handle the amount and the fruits got wasted. Therefore, the state cannot manage to deliver or even compensate the lost investments of the farmers. Still, he comes around like a King and promises golden roads to heaven. If you follows him.
The same message, that if you grow the right thing as he says, it will pay off. That is his way of fighting poverty. Not educating their kids, not enlighten them with knowledge or skills for the future. No, plant the right type of coffee or sorghum and vote the NRM. This is what the President has spoken of, again and again.
It must be so sad. So brilliantly waste of time. That he speaks of the same, promise the same deliverance from poverty. Pledges the same sort of stories and with the same punchline. And don’t see the foolishness of it. That he has failed, time and time again. The President has had 33 years to fix this. Still, he hasn’t achieved it. His fighting the same fight, as he started in the Bush.
Clearly, the President haven’t managed, haven’t been as visionary or carefully crafting the ministries, the districts, the sub-counties and the agricultural welfare, to be able to follow up, upon the message that he spread since the inception of the NRA. The man of the mustard seed, the man who could conclusively state all the ills of the leadership in Africa. Has clearly lost his touch, his supposed brilliance and uniqueness.
Since, he got to recycle, got to go in circle and never ever win. He has got to use the same methods, the same sort of fight and not winning. Surely, his failed and a giant failure. The peasants are still peasants, they are not middle-class, they cannot afford Benz’s and Lexus, they can barely afford millet and matooki. That is how it is. Utter total failure of policy, of implementation and revision of it.
That can be said, because his track-record says so. If it was working so well, why would he bring the same remedy and same message all-over again? Peace.
“’I became a soldier not to acquire a profession, but because of the bad situation that existed in my country. I saw no reason why anyone should terrorize me with a gun, so I learned to use the gun and used it to immobilize the terrorist. Neither would I describe myself as a politician. I believe every Ugandan should be involved in politics in order not to be manipulated by clever people who call themselves politicians. I entered the sphere of political leadership in order to help eliminate manipulation from politics in my country” – President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni (from a biography published by Uganda Investment Authority during 1994).
Here we go again. Another day, another backfiring quote from the fountain of honour. From the commander-in-chief and His Excellency President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni. It is like his forgotten himself and his own political career. Even in the midst of the bushwar, as journalists and such was following his trail in Luweero. Even then he spoke of economically liberating the peasants. Something, that sticks to me. Because this is his legacy, that he was supposed to deliver together with the 10 point programme.
Still in his bright mind, he speaks like this:
“A serious person does not mix politics with the livelihood of the people, all leaders irrespective of their political inclination should go back to the people and awaken them to kick poverty out of their homes” – President Museveni on the 1st August in Kasese District (Daily Monitor – ‘Do not politicise poverty, Museveni tells Opposition groups’ 02.08.2019).
As we see, without further delay, he himself have not awaken people, he has had 33 years and counting to do so. The President has spoken viciously about this since the early 1980s and still not configured the details. Therefore, he doesn’t want others to intervene, because he lack control and leadership to figure it out himself.
That is why its ironic, that he said this 21 years earlier:
“What needs to be done is to educate these people, have them understand how to develop their economies in their own humble way. The people need to be politically educated to understand abuse by their governments” President Museveni at the Addis Forum on the 8th March 1998.
So, he has kept his same message, the Freedom Fighter, that was supposed to lecture and educate the public out of poverty. The man who was supposed to change, a fundamental change if you may, the correct line, the one vision out of financial distress. Still, this man has not been able or tried to do so.
Since, were in 2019 and he blames others for not doing it well. He blames the other leaders, not himself. Who has been at the helm and had all the opportunities in the world to make a difference and actually change things. Still, he hasn’t, because that hasn’t been his main concern. That he has pushed to the donors, the NGOs and whoever who could cover his basics. Not that he needed to look into it. If he did, then it would be a scheme where he get rich and his patronage too.
Therefore, he should start to educate himself, finds way out of the maze and not put blame on others; as his own record of accomplishment isn’t that brilliant. Peace.
“Museveni made the remarks yesterday Sunday while delivering his speech during the 30th Heroes Day commemorations held at Kasanje War Memorial Grounds in Wakiso district. He noted that the new program is set to be unveiled during the national budget reading session on June 13. Museveni explained that although there are many several other poverty alleviation programs running across the country, the new program will finally offer the magic bullet to get out of poverty” (URN – ‘Gov’t to introduce another poverty alleviation program’ 10.06.2019).
In the Republic there been many schemes to stop the rampant poverty in Uganda. However, for some reason none of them is working. There sometimes so many going on at the same time, you could think it was a public enterprise to get foreign funding to allocate funds for the projects.
In 1995 the state Entandikwa Scheme launched it and by 2002. The state then introduced the Rural Micro Finance Project was launched instead in 2004. This was not the final one of these, even if the Micro Finances are still viable, but not the main stay.
In next step was the National Development Plan again lasted between 2010/11 – 2014/15 and the Poverty-Environment Initiative. This has been extended by the National Development Plan II (NDP II), which has a lasting period from 2015/16- 2019/2020 and still succeeding to this day.
However, as you would be thinking this is enough? Well, the same state has launched National Agricultural Advisory Services (NAADS) was launched as a scheme in 2002. The Youth Livelihood Programme was launched in 2013. Operation Wealth Creation was launched in 2013. All of these things was created for the same reason, to end poverty. Surely there are plenty more programmes, schemes and tricks of the trade to end poverty. Still, the government have not able to fix the issue.
The National Resistance Movement (NRM) have launched all of these and apparently the President haven’t delivered on this promise. That is why the President again launches a new trick of the trade. This here is just the new way they are trying to sell the end of poverty.
The NRM have tried this their way since the beginning of its reign. President Museveni have clearly tried and not succeeded.
This new scheme is surely just a way for his closest associates to eat. They just need to be revitalized and amended to fit the donors paradigm and the whatever they can reconfigure the budgets.
Museveni is shooting in the dark, his shooting fish in the barrel, he finally has the answer to the magic bullet that shoot JFK in Houston. Because, there is more likely finding the solution of that, than actually solving the issues around poverty. The second reason is that as long as the public and citizens stays poor. They will need aid and foreign donors. Therefore, the President will use all methods and schemes to beat it, but never get results.
That is why this newest scheme will end up like all the other ones. This President has found a new way to get funds, just another trick of his trade. That is what he does, Gen. Salim Selah will surely be involved in this one too. Just like he has done in the past. That is how this is ending. Don’t be shocked or surprised.
The President and NRM had 33 years to be able to do this. They have created all of these methods, but they are never working. That is why I don’t believe this one will do the cut either. Because there is no general will by the authorities to actually get rid of it. They want initially to keep people poor, to be able to get “free” money from the donors and not have to do their job as a government. Peace.
