Ethiopia: The TDF is retreating from the Afar Region

Afar capital of Northern zone Abala being liberated from 3 month occupation of TPLF terrorist group! Afar people’s force crushed terrorist TPLF group in every front after full scale operation initiated. The Afar flag has been hoisted in capital” (Asseb Press, 25.04.2022)

A spokesperson of Tigray forces confirmed that the forces are fully withdrawing from the neighboring region of Afar in Ethiopia, saying that he hoped this meant desperately needed food aid could finally reach famine-hit Tigray, Reuters reported” (CTGN Africa, 25.04.2022).

The Tigray Defence Force in the latest offensive in the Afar Region lasted from January to April 2022. This is if the recent news are true. The Humanitarian Truce is a month old and with only about 150 trucks entering into the region. As the Tigray region is needing a 100 trucks daily to be able to cope.

The man-made famine and starvation is going on it’s second year and there only been small glimpses of hope. While that have never last or been sincere. That’s why if the TDF is retreating yet again.

The Tigray region is still entrenched. The whole Tigray region is far from liberated and neither is there any changes on the ground. The Federal Government has blocked most road, utilities, electricity and phone-lines. The hospitals is lacking supplies and the region is looted by invaders. They have destroyed factories and whatnot too. Therefore, Tigray Region is not only hurting agriculturally, but as a whole society and as a fabric of the Tripartite Alliance invasion of the region.

The Federal Government and their allies of Amhara and Eritrea didn’t’ come with good intentions, but came with ill mind. They came to burn, destroy, rape and kill. There wasn’t left anything left to chance and it’s obvious as the Federal Government only lets a drop in the ocean cross into Tigray. There is no real genuine will, while they are continuing to vilify the UN Organizations and Humanitarian organizations for not returning the trucks at the same time. As they have for months stopped all supply of fuel. I wish that was satire, but that is paraphrasing what the FDRE Government Communications Service press release of 23rd April 2022.

So, that the TDF retreats and returns home is good for the war-torn region of Afar. There are plenty of zones where there are thousands of displaced, destroyed and looted too. Where there warfare has caused horrific damage and countless lives have been taken. Hopefully, the humanitarian agencies can reach here now and help to normalize it there too.

However, the TDF wouldn’t go into Afar region, if the situation wasn’t dire in the Tigray region and their fear of a front-line within it’s own region. The Humanitarian Truce haven’t resulted in much. There isn’t any real goodwill and the it seemed to be called to create positive headlines, but not save actual lives. Alas, the TDF is doing what the Federal Government of them. Nevertheless, will the FDRE return the favour and hope they are just starving to death in their own homes? Because, it seems pointless, as the stalemate continues and the pledged brief “Law Enforcement Operation” of November 2020 haven’t resulted in the quick victory both Addis Ababa or Asmara wanted.

We can wonder how this one will play out. Now the FDRE, Eritrea and Amhara allies cannot use the reason of invading in Afar to block humanitarian aid. However, there will be excuses and they are vilified just for breathing at this current time. Therefore, there is little hope, but let see if it pays-off or is just ploy to create an option for a new offensive of the Tripartite Alliance to target Tigray at the heart, yet again. That would be a possibility when the offensive in Oromia is winding down. Peace.
