Cameroon: The bookseller from Bamenda had deserved it all…

Today it was announced that John Fru Ndi was no more. A man who fiercely stood on the barricades and fought the good fight. He started the Social Democratic Front (SDF) back in the 1990s after the arrest of Yondo Black in February 1990.

From there he has participated in nearly every election to this date. The first one was in the 1992 elections. The first one where the regime of Paul Biya accepted multiparty elections and therefore Ndi could join in.

He became the voice of the opposition and the man to aspire to be. This man fought the Ghost of Geneva most of his life. Fru Ndi may never see victory or see his mission accomplished. However, hopefully someone in his party or another one can achieve it. To see another master and another Head of State, which isn’t a Biya.

All the time and towards any election. It was the battle between Biya vs. Fru Ndi. The bookseller was obnoxious and able to gain support. He did it naturally and could continue his mission. While Biya had to make fictious polling stations and rig the “elections” to win.

That’s why we never know if Fru Ndi won an election or was the righteous heir to the throne. He is the Cameroonian President many never had. He was a party leader and voice of reason. A man of his words and ability to gain recognition.

Maurice Kamto might takeover his position as the new opposition in town. However, he has to live up to the integrity and the moral force, which was the bookseller of Bamenda. A man who fought and fought until he couldn’t anymore. He wasn’t on the ballot in 2018, but he has been so steadily since 1992. So, we know that he tried and worked hard to get elected in the Republic.

It is sad that Fru Ndi never got to beat the ghost. He should have and it would have been an understatement to say the relief it would have given. Instead, the regime and Biya has continued to use the oppressive means and legislation to control all avenues to power. That’s what they have preoccupied with…. While eating lavish in the Swiss Alpes.

We need to mourn our heroes. The ones who is fighting the good fight. Along the way… it might seem useless, but the legacies of John Fru Ndi must live on. He stood on the barricades and fought for years against the brutal dictatorship of Biya. His activists and fellow comrades have paid a price. They have been arrested as bandits and whatever charge the authorities could come up with.

That’s why John Fru Ndi is now gone and in the second realm. He has left earth and isn’t walking among us anymore. However, his spirit and ideals will linger. As long as his fight and spirited journey is relevant. People will talk about what he started in 1990 and never was able to finish.

Joh Fru Ndi is the President Cameroun/Cameroon never had. A man who should have been and could have been on several instances. While the regime and their lackeys underscored and made it look like he underperformed. That’s what they do, and it’s been obvious.

Until we meet again. Aluta Continua. Peace.
