“Most of the Tigray diaspora have forgotten the fact: Tigray as a region of Eritrea is a ‘‘geographical influence‘‘ (buffer zone). One of the most common geographical misconceptions among many Tigrayans is the lack of belief that Tigray’s security depends on Eritrea. What is especially shocking is when you see the intellectuals of the region trying to convince the people of Tigray that Tigray is surrounded by water just like Greenland. But the reality is: there is absolutely no doubt that Tigray will remain Eritrea’s ‘‘geographical security zone of Eritrea‘‘. A bullet fired from Ethiopia: it will land in the heart of Tigray. There can never be a greater ignorance than to forget that 80%-90% of the EDF is dependent on the borders of Tigray. It’s when it’s said that a snake has no legs: a fool has no heart. The overall fact is that the Tigray diaspora will have to move out of fantasy and into attraction. To not believe that there is no more war on Eritrean soil: would be to voluntarily close your eyes and fall into a cliff. Whether Tigrayans believe it or not: there is never a reality that prevents Tigray from becoming Eritrea’s Gaza. The only option: is to create a strategic peace/ alliance between the peoples of Tigray and Eritrea” (Center for Research and Documentation, 08.12.2023).
The Center for research and Documentation, an Eritrean Regime Media outlet published yesterday a piece called: “Tigray: Like Lesotho or Greenland?”. It is another piece of rare revelations of how the Asmara sees the world. However, it is really unique piece and it needs to be addressed.
This is most likely coming in the safe-haven of the Red Sea and the Ethiopian Spinning the news about rights to Assab or Massawa. Because, that has strained the relationship between the nations and certainly also soured the diplomatic ties between them. So, in this regard… this is a new strategy and play from Asmara.
Eritrea is now suddenly saying Tigray and the Tigray region should be aligned with the State of Eritrea. Because, Tigray will be caught in the cross-fire and be the one caught in the middle. They are the ones that will be shot and hurt in a conflict. Like Eritrea didn’t violate the rights of Tigray and haven’t continuously done so since the war of the North started. The Eritrean Defence Force (EDF) still has annexed land and participated in war-crimes there.
So, it is very strange that the ones that was hurt, suffering and was weaponized to die. They suddenly should become allies with their killers and the ones who wanted to annihilate you. That’s what the Media House is saying. It is disregarding the recent history and vicious of Asmara as a part of an alliance to deplete, destroy and end the hegemony of Tigray. That’s what the game was about and now the tune is singed differently.
The Tigray region should continue to be part of Ethiopia. That’s where it belongs, unless it seeks total independence and get out of the Federation. Nevertheless, that doesn’t seem likely anytime soon. However, Eritrea will not gain this territory and the Ethiopian army would fight over it. Just like it fought over Badme in the past. There is no reason to think otherwise in 2023.
That the media house says Tigray should have a strategic alliance would be betrayal of the Pretoria Agreement and the TIRA would jeopardize the peace very quickly. This would benefit Eritrea and give them reasons to further extent their stay in the occupied territories. Therefore, the betrayal of Tigray would be a double edged sword for Asmara. Give them a handout and a way in. Because, Ethiopia as a Federation would issue war over it.
It is just amazing to know that people write articles like these in 2023. Like we didn’t know what the EDF did in Tigray and what horrific war-crimes it committed. The acts of Eritrean forces in Tigray should not only be condemned, but investigated and be real repercussions over. There is a need for that… and an alliance with the ones who did that. Seems a bit of stretch and a mirage. There is nothing to gain for Tigray and only more missery. They will have a new war and Eritrea would fight it on their soil, yet again. While fighting former allies in the ENDF and others… Peace.
