Ethiopia: Tigray Independence Party (TIP) – Open letter to the International Community – Urgent Appeal Regarding Human Rights Violations Against the Tigray Independence Party (TIP) and its Members (18.10.2024)

“The Three Heads of State underlined the imperative of adhering to the basic principles and pillars of international law as the indispensable basis for regional stability and cooperation: especially unequivocal respect for the sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity of the countries of the region; confronting interference in the internal affairs of the countries of the region under any pretext or justification; coordinating joint efforts to achieve regional stability; and creating a conducive climate for joint and sustainable development” (Ministry of Information, Eritrea – ‘Joint Statement of the Tripartite Summit (Unofficial Translation)’ 10.10.2024).
Yesterday’s Joint Communique and release from the Tripartite Summit in Asmara, Eritrea is telling. It is clear that the alliances are shifting and there is now a lack of trust between Asmara and Addis Ababa. The same goes in regard between Mogadishu and Addis Ababa. While we knew there was cold relations between Egypt and Ethiopia, as a result of the GERD.
Now, things are finalized and things are now in order. The Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, the FDRE is lacking diplomatic ties and connections on the Horn of Africa. That is a result of the years of hostility and brazen disregard for the neighbours in connection to the GERD and the dream of having a port by the Red Sea. Therefore, this has been an own creation of the Prime Minister of Ethiopia.
Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali is behind all of this. That’s why Eritrea is now in allies with the enemies of Ethiopia. Now it is clear that the friendly relations between Afewerki and Abiy is gone. Abiy didn’t follow upon the requests and the ideals of the war in the North. As the Eritrean President wanted to get rid of TPLF completely, but now it is still active because of the Cessation of Hostilities Agreement made in Pretoria, South Africa.
We will now see a more confident Somalia and Villa Somalia has now a co-operative agreement and a security arrangement, which strengthen it. That is in the interests of Somalia, but also their allies. Which means the threats and the belittling of Mogadishu from Addis Ababa has to cease. They now have more flair and has people they can depend on.
That’s more than Abiy can say. His now left alone. The former allies has ditched him and is now in ka-hoots with Egypt. That got to sting. The allies of the Northern War has now left him completely. His fighting Fano in the Amhara Region and now the Eritrean Weapons brothers has left him too. They have seen who Abiy is and cannot trust him.
That’s a real telling part here. That the warlord is losing allies he can trust. He hasn’t the ability to read the room and understand what people are looking for. Instead the interests of consolidating power and enriching himself has a cost. Now he can’t and isn’t in favour in Asmara. Neither is he feared or respected in Mogadishu. Both places… they have now said their “peace”.
This is the failure of Prime Minister Abiy. It just shows how his mind-games and how he operates just destroys everything around him. Sooner or later, he will tear other things apart too. Just so he can rule the ashes. That’s what he does… and it shows time and time again. Peace.

“Ethiopia has officially appointed Ambassador Taye Atske-Selassie as the country’s new President. The announcement came during the 4th-year opening ceremony of the 6th House of People’s Representatives and the 4th House of Federation joint session today” (Ethiopian Press Agency, 07.10.2024).
The demotion from being the Minister of Foreign Affairs to become the Ceremonial President has begun. Taye Atske-Selassie will be the silent partner and confidant of the Prime Minister of Ethiopia.
The ones that think Atske-Selassie will be a defiant or a man of honour is wrong. He will be there to serve his Prime Minister and his party. That’s why he was appointed and elected to the role of President.
He has gone from serving as an ambassador to become the Foreign Minister and now he has gotten a token office. That is what his getting and that because the PM knows what his getting.
Atske-Selassie wouldn’t be in the mix, if Abiy wasn’t sure that he had a loyal cadre on his side. The new President has praised most of the achievements and the government programs of Abiy. That will he continue to do, and he won’t budge.
As President he will accept the fate of war in the Amhara region. He won’t stop or be in the way of conflicts elsewhere on the Horn of Africa. As we have seen him openly defend and be a voice of the Federal Republic in regards to the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Somaliland. Therefore, Abiy has an ally and a man that will carry his water in this man.
This is man that serves one purpose and one purpose only. That’s to be there and be the man that supports the Prime Minister. It don’t matter what he does or how he operates. This President will be the spokesperson and the figurehead of that government. He will be there for the glory and the prestige, but he won’t have a say.
Abiy has now his puppet and he will dance when the Prime Minister says so. Peace.

“It is clear that the more the group gets additional terms in office, the more consequences and national destruction it will bring. Therefore, the TPLF Central Committee decided at its meeting on September 24, 2017 to resign the individuals in the group from their administrative positions on behalf of the TPLF and replace them with other representatives of the party. Hence, the following individuals have resigned from their administrative responsibilities as of October 7 today” (Tigray People’s Liberation Front, 07.10.2024).
Today is the day.. the Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF) have initially takeover the Tigray Interim Regional Administration (TIRA). This is appointing a new leadership from the TPLF-D and not from the TPLF-R.
Getachew Reda is in real trouble here. Reda is currently being chastised and being fired by the party that he has been a part of. Now TIRA is getting a new leadership and the TPLF is appointing them.
The problem here is that the TIRA was created as a part of the Pretoria Agreement. That is the current interim government in the Tigray region. This is a creation of Abiy and such to ensure he has allies and people he can control in Tigray. That’s why he allowed it to happen… and let Getachew Reda take the reigns.
Now with the time going, the Debretsion Gebremichael is trying to reign it in. They are trying to take control of the TIRA. An entity that it doesn’t directly “own” or has “ownership” of. As it is a creation made for having puppets in Tigray.
Prime Minister Abiy wouldn’t allow “hardliners” or anyone who opposes him in office in Tigray. He would have other excuses to freeze it or stop it from functioning. That’s why Debretsion Gebremichael is playing a dangerous game.
Debretsion Gebremichael is already struggling to get the TPLF rectified and get it as a legal political entity. The Federal Authorities haven’t accepted it after calling it a “terrorist” organization during the war in the North. Therefore, his playing with fire and won’t win here.
The winner here is Abiy. Reda is losing too, but Debretsion won’t feel victorious either. Especially, if the people around the PM won’t accept the changes or allow it. Because, that isn’t up to the TPLF. The TIRA is destined and decided from a far. That won’t be an easy gambit.
Getachew Reda can easily linger on in office. Even if the TPLF-D sacks him. That’s because Abiy wants to keep him. It gives him the energy and weakens the TPLF. That’s a victory for the Prosperity Party. As the TPLF is doing more in-fighting and less governance. The TPLF aren’t governing, but fighting for roles and offices. That’s what Abiy wants to corrupt and make people weak enough to take his bait. Therefore, TPLF-D is losing here and not winning.
The TPLF as a whole is losing by the share definition of mediocre acts it’s doing. Instead of focusing on the betterment and restructuring the state after the war. Instead of looking into the pressing matters and the questions lingering after the Cessation of Hostilities. It is instead bound by internal spite and conflict, which could have been resolved over a cup of coffee.
These gentlemen knows better and they are playing a high stakes game. Neither will win here. The victor here is residing in Addis. He is grinning and laughing at this. Because, he see them fight over the spoils and the little token he gave after fighting them. This isn’t the strong party of old, and neither is it showing any sort of strength. Peace.
