“After days of speculation, SABC News has reliably learnt that the African National Congress (ANC) and the Democratic Alliance (DA) have finally reached a deal to form a Government of National Unity (GNU) together with the Patriotic Alliance (PA) and the Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP)” (SABC News, 14.06.2024).
Today’s so-called coalition called “Government of National Unity” is formed in South Africa. It is the main parties of the ANC and the DA. When the ANC decides to work with and being allies with the DA. It is signing of it’s history and it’s remaining principles on the altar of power.
The ANC needed allies and get enough mandate to be able to govern. The ANC alone wouldn’t be sufficient and would be a minority government who would need support and votes from others to be able to govern in the National Assembly. Now the ANC has chosen the “easy” way out and making a majority coalition with DA.
The PA and IFP is just to broaden the spectrum, but these parties will be mere supporting agents in regard to the ANC/DA. They are just there to make it seem like a broader government than it is. The DA will bully and play around with the ANC. The IFP and PA should disregard it and just quit. They are used as tools and will be regretting even taking part in it.
The ANC will be the loser here, as the legacy of the party and the will of the ANC has been lost. It sold out and will be even weaker in the next up-coming election. For now it is still a governing party, but only on the mercy of the DA. That’s not a good look for Ramaphosa.
Cyril Ramaphosa might be a President for another term. He gets to stay in office and be blessed with the perks of his office. However, his party and the ANC will be dethroned and be bestowed with a slow destruction. The DA will eat the party from the inside and make a mockery out of it. They can use the spite and use their leverage to counter-act the ANC.
That’s why the ANC will loose here. The IFP and PA is lucky just to have a Minister and be part of the Big-Boy’s in the Administration. They are lucky buffoons who also shielded the DA and their usage of seats in the National Assembly.
It is just amazing how damaging this will be… as it will be a silent storm and there will no helpers to save them. The ANC is now selling out completely and they will regret it. The DA will win on this and be seen as “wise”. They have gotten everything for cheap and the ANC had to accept, because it still wanted to rule.
This is a mode of self-destruction and the ANC will be in harms way. They will make it much worse and have to dance to the tune of DA to able to govern. Especially, when the deal says they have to have consensus before pushing through things. Meaning the ANC cannot do anything without acceptance of the DA. That’s securing mechanisms, which isn’t a measures on the size of the party, but of who has the final say. Therefore, the ANC is now in the mercy of the DA.
The IFP and PA will be useful “broad-based” parties to incite more popularity. However, they should know the ANC and DA is only having them to look nice on the paper.
This here is a bad look… and the ANC should have known better. Peace.

“Why an inquiry is needed:
MDF plane carrying VP & 8 others goes missing, later found crashed with no survivors.
Questions:
“Tragic Final Flight Before Vice President Chilima Killed in Plane Crash. Captured in his last moments, Malawi Vice President Saulos Chilima was seen departing from Kamuzu International Airport in Lilongwe aboard a 35-year-old German-made Dornier 228 military aircraft. The aircraft, carrying ten people, tragically crashed yesterday morning after failing to land in Mzuzu due to adverse weather conditions. Among the passengers were former First Lady Shanil Muluzi and others heading to the funeral of former attorney general and minister of justice, Ralph Kasambala. This devastating incident marks a significant loss for Malawi” (Malawi24, 11.06.2024).
There is a time to mourn and rightfully so. The Republic should mourn. The family of the Vice President and everyone else on bord on the flight should be mourned. They are all casualties and people who lost their lives to early. That’s why the authorities and the government needs to investigate the matter.
There is a need for answers, as the sudden fall-out of the radar and out of sight. That the search and rescue started 7 hours later. The beacon and the everything else couldn’t get captured. That the good neighbour Zambia came to its aide with choppers and such. The Malawi Defence Force (MDF) don’t have equipment or needed gear for a search and rescue. Therefore, had to suspend their activities and start next morning.
While there is reports that the Search and Rescue team of soldiers and others didn’t find the plane, but villagers. Meanwhile the authorities have tried to look wise with videos of a small-drone, which isn’t fit for that sort of operation. The government needs some guidance and looking out for its own.
The Malawi authorities, institutions and stakeholders needs to be held to account. They could have warned and ensured the safety of the passengers. The High-Ranking Officials should have been told and cancelled the flight. Even if it meant missing an important burial in Mzuzu, which the VP was supposed to attend. Because now sadly, one funeral became a dozens more. That’s not the intention, but the result of the fatal flight.
The second thing that can be on everyone’s mind. Did the Military and the Airplane mechanics make sure everything was on the up-and-up before flying. Was there service of the plane recently? An old plane like this needs to be looked after and needs proper service before going in air. Did the MDF have report and scheduled service of it?
This is an old plane procured in the 1980s. It is over 30 years old and was maybe to old to be operative. That can be speculated now, and we can wonder why the state haven’t invested in military aircrafts and such since then. Because this is a relic that was still operational and in use, which means the MDF was using very old equipment to fly with.
These questions needs to be answered. Like why did it fall out of the radar an why where there no swift response? When was the last time the airplane was serviced? Why did the VP had to take this old plane to Mzuzu? Why didn’t anyone warn him about the weather and let him get driven instead?
Because the VP had just come from South Korea and landed with his wife. Before taking another journey and cross the nation. There should be safety regulations and measures, which ensures his life. Especially, considering the implications of the loss and the Vice President. That will be felt in the nation. The Republic has lost a vital politician and a man who has served as VP for over a decade. Plus other high-ranking officials that was on that flight.
Malawi deserves answers. There is a need for justice and knowledge of what went down. So, that conspiracies and questionable sources can run amok. That’s what will happen, if the authorities, the state, and the stakeholders are silent about the matter. Yes, it is a touchy one and is a hurting one. This will open the wounds, but if there is no action now. It will haunt this administration and the President for the rest of his life. Peace.
