Opinion: People should never underestimate Malema!

This shouldn’t be news, but there was many doubters to the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) and the party itself created by the former African National Congress Youth Leader Julius Malema. The one with the biggest fallout and also helped the rise of former Jacob Zuma. This man shouldn’t be underestimated. Because who else can speak of economic inequality and still be known for wearing Louis Vuitton from head to toe.

Its been know how Malema uses words and garn people’s attention, how he has build grassroot organizations and also been active in politics since forever. He was a key supporter and helper of Zuma, even made sure the Unions was on Zuma’s side at some point. However, that love was lost. Malema was suspended and never could return to the party.

That didn’t stop Malema who has become a bigger figure and one of the top leaders in the South African politics. Him and Mmusi Maimane is the future of politics, both on different branches, but still they have their place.

Malema will speak of the state organized and get state controlled over the mineral resource, nationalizations, the saving of the land and take back what was taken by the colonizers and apartheid. Malema will really fight for those causes, in a tone that is in stark contrast to plenty. Some will be afraid, but others should look to it as an aspect of needed voices in the midst of poverty. There aren’t everyone who will stand-up for the left behind in the townships, but Malema will.

Even if Malema himself is the political elite and wealthier than most. Still, his message differ from that, the way he speaks economics and policies in general. It is based on the matter of liberation and freedom of the masses, while getting more state control and less of the ones who is looting the riches of the Republic. That is where Malema is, not that everyone can accept that. But the need for the narrative is there, as he has gained his following and been able to build a viable party.

They might look like red colorful brigade in the Parliament, the National Assembly wouldn’t be the same without the people Malema has around him. The EFF Party has shown what they are capable of and the leadership of Malema makes sense. He proven that in ANC and ANCYL especially. Therefore, the ones surprised that EFF turned 5 years. Has forgotten his methods and his ways as leader there.

They wouldn’t think he would build a foundation and loyalty, also continue to work on the base of supporters and spread his message? That is what Malema has done. Even if you don’t agree with him. You got to be impressed. It takes time to build a party and he has achieved a lot since being kicked out of ANC. No one can deny him that.

Therefore, never ever, ever, ever think of underestimating Malema. He is not for the short-con, he is for the long-con, if not he is for the cause and the principals. He might sound like big buffoon doing so, but don’t misjudge him. That he will use to undress you and your stances. Malema is coming, all of us don’t know how, but he will come.

Either with blazing guns, with revolutionary tales, if not a Louis Vuitton belt and suit shining like a Prince. Who knows, but don’t let his appearance fool you, he something up his sleeve. Peace.

South Africa: Section 232 Investigation by the United States of America on Steel and Aluminium Products (12.03.2018)

South Africa’s exports to the US on steel amounted to US$950 million in 2017 and accounted for 1.4% of U.S.’s global imports.

PRETORIA, South Africa, March 12, 2018 – The South African Government has noted the announcement of the President of the United States of America, Donald Trump on 8 March 2018 that he has signed proclamations to impose a 10 percent ad valorem tariff on aluminnium articles and a 25 percent ad valorem tariff on steel articles.

It was further announced that the United States (US) will consider specific requests from affected domestic parties, to exclude from any adopted import restrictions those steel articles for which the Secretary of Commerce determines there is a lack of sufficient US production capacity of comparable products, or to exclude steel articles from such restrictions for specific national security-based considerations.

The proclamations make a provision for any country with which the US has a security relationship to discuss with the US alternative ways to address the threatened impairment of the national security caused by imports from that country. Should the US and that country arrive at a satisfactory alternative means to address the threat to the national security, the US President may remove or modify the restriction on steel articles imports from that country and, if necessary, make any corresponding adjustments to the tariff as it applies to other countries as the national security interests require.

In relation to aluminium, the products to be affected are defined in the Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS) as: (a) unwrought aluminum (HTS 7601); (b) aluminum bars, rods, and profiles (HTS 7604); (c) aluminum wire (HTS 7605); (d) aluminum plate, sheet, strip, and foil (flat rolled products) (HTS 7606 and 7607); (e) aluminum tubes and pipes and tube and pipe fitting (HTS 7608 and 7609); and (f) aluminum castings and forgings (HTS 7616.99.51.60 and 7616.99.51.70), including any subsequent revisions to these HTS classifications.

The products affected in relation to steel are defined at the Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS) 6-digit level as: 7206.10 through 7216.50, 7216.99 through 7301.10, 7302.10, 7302.40 through 7302.90, and 7304.10 through 7306.90, including any subsequent revisions to these HTS classifications.

In addition, the Secretary of Commerce is expected to publish the Federal Register on the appeal process for US buyers to apply for exclusion within 10 days. The tariffs will be implemented on 23 March 2018, if no alternative arrangement is agreed to with individual countries.

South Africa is studying the proclamations and its implications for the domestic industry in South Africa. South Africa’s exports to the US on steel amounted to US$950 million in 2017 and accounted for 1.4% of U.S.’s global imports. In the case of aluminium, the SA exports were US$375 million in 2017, accounting for 1.6% of US imports from all global suppliers. It is clear that South Africa’s exports do not impose a threat to US industry and jobs. The SA exports are in some cases used as inputs into further processes in the US manufacturing sector thus in fact contributing to US jobs and production.

The Department of Trade and Industry (the dti) is fully engaged with the matter and continues to have discussions with the US on this issue. A formal submission will also be made to the US as is provided for in the proclamations.

Opinion: EFFs Malema to Mugabe – “time to say Goodbye”!

The Economic Freedom Fighter (EFF) founder and former African National Congress Youth League (ANCYL) chairman Julius Malema is continuing to pound on the Presidency of Mugabe and his overstaying in power. It is from the same man that sought to learn from Zimbabwe African National Union-Patriotic Front (ZANU-PF) Youth in 2010 to learn how to make Africa better. So with the lingering years in power and his loss of power inside the ruling party ANC have given way for Malema to address Zanu-PF and ANC differently, than in the past; in the recent year or so he has called Mugabe a lot and asked him to leave power. Still, as a foreigner Mugabe has asked who he really is, therefore the criticism hasn’t really broken the old man, who by some of his biggest supporters claims that he is in the bible.

Let’s see what Julius Malema said about Mugabe:

“The African Union (AU) need courageous leadership which will tell their own peers this is not right, you know like they did, like ECOWAS did. So we need more ECOWAS, we need SADC to say no to President Mugabe don’t you think it’s time to say Goodbye” (…) “We have a problem with him (Mugabe) wanting to stay until death. We believe there are so many young people who were inspired by him in his own country. If he inspires us here in South Africa, there must surely a lot of them who were inspired him in Zimbabwe who can take over from him and continue the legacy” (ZimbabweToday, 2017).

Well, if South African government and other nations inside the SADC community weren’t afraid for their own reign and their internal battles, than they would have interfered in republics and states that had big-men who wouldn’t leave in peace. The man who was a freedom fighter and got rid of oppressive minority government has himself become a repressive leader. So that the RSA politician to tell the President of Zimbabwe is a fresh breath of air, still it would be more possible if the South African government wasn’t it biggest ally. Even Thabo Mbeki as President didn’t give a hard enough nudge and put the ZANU-PF rigging machine into the dust. Instead he gave way and made it possible for Mugabe to linger.

It is a fresh one that an opposition leader from South Africa blasts Mugabe; it makes sense of the character and the will of Malema. Still, his former friendliness towards the Zanu-PF makes me wonder how real the will of change the man has. Since when he was an ANCYL leader he could learn from Zanu-PF Youth, now he wants the Mugabe administration and Zanu-PF to leave, as much as Malema wants President Zuma and the ANC to stop ruling as well. However, he will not as SADC to overthrow Jacob Zuma, as he asks them to act upon Mugabe.

Well, nobody explain the problem with Mugabe better than Mutsa Murenje:

“There is absolutely no justification for Mugabe or any other Zimbabwean to seek medical attention outside the country. We have enough resources to make our health services work for us. The millions spent by a single man (Mugabe) on foreign trips could be saved to fund areas that are lacking in our country. The best we can do is to find Mugabe a place in an old people’s home. That’s where he belongs instead of depriving us of the future we badly need” (…) “The Mugabe regime abuses State resources and international aid. Food is distributed on a partisan basis. Opposition parties need to be more visible and have a felt presence nationwide. We need to stay abreast on key issues affecting us. The role of the media on this cannot be overstated. Both the traditional and the social media have key roles to play in consolidating democracy” (Murenje, 2017).

So the Zimbabwean sees the issues themselves, the Malema paradigm is different from Murenje, both want Mugabe gone away and other to lead, Malema from South Africa wants the SADC together to bring Mugabe away from the throne, while Murenje wants social justice and freedom through political takeover. That is different ways, as the MDC-T and other parties are now questioned, as the other parties are also created on fallouts from the Zanu-PF instead of built on their own merit.

There are dozens of questions and needed strong civil society together with political will to bring the Mugabe era to an end. However, there are more who wish him gone as the #ThisFlag and other social activists that are detained for their will to question the power of Mugabe. The President and his rule of law, is that the justice is only for the given elite, the rest should be silent.

The time should have been up a long time ago, Julius Malema and others should address the man and show the illegitimate rule in Zimbabwe. True, Mugabe was once a hero, but now he is not. Peace.

Opinion: A 93 year old, apparently doesn’t need succession!

robert-mugabe3-660x400

The President of Zimbabwe, President Robert Mugabe, the man who is in the psalms, who was written to stay as a leader and even be voted on after death, that is if Grace Mugabe, the first lady gets her wish. The Zanu-PF which was created by him as he mended to parties together when he got rid of a rival; so many forgets the past history of how ZANU became Zanu-PF. The Patriotic Front was sucked into the merger for the political ambition of President Mugabe, as he swallowed and got rid of Joshua Nkomo. Nkomo also lost his party as it became one party Zanu-PF.

Therefore listening to the President and leader of decades upon decades Mugabe had to say this on his 93rd birthday:

“PRESIDENT Mugabe has warned ambitious lieutenants in his party who are angling to succeed him to stop fanning divisions, saying he will not be pressured into appointing his successor” (…) “He slammed succession-driven factional divisions in Zanu-PF, called for unity in the ruling party, and reaffirmed his position that whoever would succeed him was going to be chosen by the people through an election” (Gono, Mukarati & Tshuma, 2017).

The man who will run and continue to be the kingpin, the grand master of Zimbabwe, President Mugabe will not leave the republic and the reign before his last breath. The lasting regime and the will to stay is not only for his benefit, but for his closest allies and elite. The ones who drives flash cars in Harare, who owns the banks and export resources to abroad, also the ones who sells special-made cakes, lays chips and all sort of imported goods. That is who keeps breathing air into the Zanu-PF regime and Mugabe’s continues reign.

The ones who thinks this isn’t eating he system, isn’t costing the republics coffers, the possibility for good governance and accountability are not there with a man who rules and give the rules, without following any common-sense himself. A man has used any trick possible in the book and use all sort force to gain his will.

Are now imposing him and continuing his ill-will reign with the force of his army and sometimes like in the past mercenaries or paid forces from North Korea even. Because Mugabe doesn’t believe in democracy, but in his power to reign by all means!

Also, so his family can benefit and earns wealth on his reign. The Mugabe clan must surely have become rich from all of these years. If not why would he not step down and give way for somebody else? That is because he knows that all that is created around him and his family de facto disappears the day he leaves. However, the Mugabe name will tarnish history of a liberator turned Orwellian master. Nobody foresaw the transformation, but over time he has showed more and more traits of a scrupulous leader who use any means to stay and to forge the power around him. Therefore, the ones near him and the first lady are loyal fellows with no spine. If they had spine they would be beaten by the Police in protest, getting produced in courts or starving, even lacking civil service salaries. That is the means of lacking of governance and institutions as it all is and has been all Mugabe.

So there is no surprise, that the future casket President and the one ruling into death. So why be subtle about it. That is not the need of the Mugabe regime now. They are beating civilians, detaining civilian activists and silencing the opposition. Therefore, they feel invisible to anyone who thinks they can bring down President Mugabe. Peace.
