Opinion: Mpuuga have to prove his worth

As the Leader of the Opposition (LoP) in Parliament, you are having an unforgiving job. Your office is to excel and pushback the government. The spearhead of the opposition and the ones that whip the Opposition MPs against the wrongful and injustice of the current regime. However, that cost and is brutal. That’s why the LoP isn’t an office for everyone.

Mathias Mpuuga is feeling the pressure after the negotiations and the release of the two incarcerated MPs. His name has been put in the mud and tarnished for anyone to see. Mpuuga has been the point of subject and chastised from all sides. He haven’t only been questioned from the ruling regime, but also from within his own inner-circle.

That’s why you know Mpuuga and his prominence is costing. Not like the LoP has a majority or any hold of Parliament. A minority leader swimming in the whims of the Speakers and the National Resistance Movement (NRM). They are the ones steering the ship and his words means practically nothing.

The predecessors of this role has also paid a price for their acknowledgement of this. The way and manner which they pragmatically took part of the proceedings and let go of their defiant ways. Mafabi, Oguttu or Kiiza has all been there and tasted the mud. They have all taken their stride and lost out.

Mpuuga is in a position where he cannot win. No one can win in this office. There is nothing to gain. The only thing you can do is to renegade and inspire the masses. That’s the only thing an LoP can achieve. There is no legislative or possible political framework that can be implemented. The NRM is running the show and the State House has the Parliament by the balls. Not like the Parliament is acting without consensus of the “high above”. No, they are just carrying his water and doing his bidding.

So, in the grand scheme of things, Mpuuga got nothing and it’s deliberate. Just like the predecessors had nothing either. The LoP is a figurehead of a office, which could have a meaning and purpose. However, in the state of affairs it’s only a money-grab and a salute of a honorary title.

Mpuuga can only use this office to leverage public support and be vocal MP against the oppression. He can only stand on the barricades and be in the trenches with fellow allies. Because, he cannot sustain or have any sort of capacity to deliver anything substantial in Parliament. That is rigged against him and the whole opposition. They have no voice and no opportunity to sufficiently win. He and his fellow comrades are bound to lose and that is done by default.

That’s why Mpuuga needs to humble himself and possible atone for the lost time. The arrogance and entitlement is doing him no good. The only favour he has is with the masses, the ones who voted in the National Unity Platform (NUP) and gave him a role in Parliament. They are the ones that given him a chance and he can shine for them. However, will he ever or is he interested in doing so?

We know Mpuuga has fought and been beaten. We know Mpuuga has been active and been a vocal opposition since the Action for Change (A4C) days. So, we know he got it in him. He has been in Parliament now for years and he has to show some finesse. We know he won’t win, but that isn’t the goal anyway. The goal is to undress the king and show his new clothes. It isn’t to implement or directly reform, because that’s impossible. That’s why he got to undermine and make a mockery out of the rulers. That is his job and currently we are not seeing that from him. Peace.

Opinion: Mpuuga is a part of the G-Unit now…

Sunday Monitor understands that a NUP caucus of more than 20 lawmakers has pledged allegiance to Mr Mpuuga or at least his ideals. Fred Ssimbwa, the Nakifuma country representative in the House, chairs the caucus that refers to itself as G-UNIT. During an interview with NTV Uganda’s flagship morning show, “Morning@NTV”, Bobi Wine said—without mentioning names—that he is aware of NUP lawmakers who have been “compromised.” It is thought he was referring to the G-UNIT” (Derrick Wandera – ‘NUP split pits LoP against Bobi Wine’ 25.09.2022).

The latest fluff piece in the Daily Monitor is hallow and certainly could have had more meat before serving it to the public. A look at friction or creations of “wings” within a party. There would be no different in the National Unity Platform (NUP). It wouldn’t be surprising if the NUP would have the same challenge as the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) was faced with, which was the hardliners versus the establishment or more pragmatic types.

However, we have now a new sort of vibe within the NUP apparently. 50 Cent should get his group name back, the G-G-G Unit. I am wondering who is the most loyal fella among the G-Unit in the NUP? Because someone has to emulate Tony Yayo. Wonder who is the punchline king or Lloyd Banks? Lastly, who is the one with the poignant bars like Young Buck?

Well, enough fun and play… but it’s interesting reporting of a sort of G-Unit from within. Yes, that is natural in a party to have wings and different groups. Even when the main objectives are the same and their leader is the same. They still will see things differently and wanting to achieve the same thing. These people just thinks there is different way to succeed. Like said earlier there is many paths, but you as a party has to choose one.

We know that as a Leader of Opposition (LoP) Mathias Mpuuga is a pragmatic fellow and not a direct revolutionary. Even if his party has moved in that direction and has had as a signatory programme to “remove a dictator”. Which by definition is a revolutionary act in itself. That’s why a man like Mpuuga will get pushback and essentially from everyone who signed up to the central ideals of the party. Therefore, he would be questioned and wouldn’t always prosper.

Mpuuga could easily get in the space that the likes of Winnie Kiiza or Gen. Mugisha Muntu has been in the FDC. That’s not speaking ill of these, but that is natural progression and act within what is prescribed by the organization itself.

The G-Unit is most likely the former internal pressure group of 20 MP from within the NUP Party. We know that just a year ago Bobi Wine warned the G-20 about creating an internal group or pressure group from within, because that could be the downfall of a new party. That’s what he has stated in September 2021 to the News Editor and reported about in the Entebbe Post around the same time as the “secret mobilizing team”.

The G-20 surely doesn’t sound as intriguing as the G-Unit. Though there is no one who is as gangster or ruthless as 50 Cent. There is no MP or part of the Pressure Group who can compete with the aura and the will of Curtis Jackson. That’s just a fact, but they can surely try. That Mpuuga is a patron of this G-Unit, which is an internal part of the NUP. Only makes things more hectic and possible could question his moves. Especially, if the G-Unit wants to work in another direction than what the NUP wants. He shouldn’t be out of line or cross the leadership of Kamwokya, which he is representing and being elected through. He wasn’t elected on a G-Unit platform, but on a NUP ticket.

This here is interesting times. I’m looking forward to any sort of pushback or recognition of the story published in the Daily Monitor. This is only mere hours after the release. The NUP and the LoP got to respond. It is not a good look and speculations are running wild. In that regard, also jokes of G-Spot, G-String and other fitting rebrands of the G-20, which is currently G-Unit.

They knew the G in G-Unit stood for Guerrilla, right? If not… now you know. The ones giving the same and acronym needs to know. It would be foolish not to right…

Well… Mpuuga and the G-Unit got some answers to give. That is obvious. The NUP also have to deal with this. This isn’t for South Jamaica Queens, but for Kamwokya. Peace.

Opinion: The FDC needs to grow a pair

The current Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) high ranking officials needs to grow up and take their losses on the chin. Today’s news of possible dismissal of FDC MPs accepting Shadow Cabinet positions is foolish at best.

This coming from the same party, which have appointed Shadow Cabinets with MPs from other parties. So, this just shows a lack of growth or maturity from the current leadership. Yes, the FDC wasn’t consulted. Nevertheless, the FDC haven’t been willing to meet or greet the National Unity Platform (NUP) on earlier meetings either. Secondly, the FDC have retaliated and questioned the NUPs credentials and their agenda.

Therefore, that Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda is calling out like this. After what Nathan Nandala-Mafabi have done in the post-election. They have both been on the warpath with the NUP. These two have been comrades in talking ill of the NUP and their actions. While never accepting anything its doing. Neither, have it taking it lightly that none of the MPs was appointed to committee’s.

That’s why today’s words was striking. That they went this way. When the NUP have invited FDC. It has been seen as non-important and as a obstacle. This seems to be the same reasons for why FDC can avoid or even boycott IPOD. However, when FDC is appointed as the leader of IPOD. Than it becomes an important thing…

This sort of pattern is tiring. The FDC leadership better grow up. Especially, as this is supposed to the party who has for ages been in the battle and fought the dictatorship. The ones who can educate and show how things are done. They could show some heart and skill.

They should be happy that Leader of Opposition Mathias Mpuuga have considered 7 MPs from the FDC. He could have picked several more from his own party the NUP. He could have filled the ranks. Still, he appointed surely in talks with his own and own their merits to various of positions. However, this is not good enough for the FDC.

Now… suddenly… the FDC wants to meet and drink tea. Who are they kidding here? What sort of game is this? Maybe FDC National Executive Committee (NEC) needs to have an extraordinary meeting to figure out the way to be a ordinary opposition and not the leader of it. Since, this is the first time in ages. The FDC is demoted and they should be gracious to be considered this big.

Even, if some of the big-men and the long-term MPs wasn’t appointed here or in May to the Committee’s. Still, they should just be happy and accept this. Just like the other opposition parties took their part. When they were at the helm and appointed the Shadow Cabinet. That is what the FDC should do now.

Well, maturity is clearly not this party thing. They are not able to show it. Neither, to take things to heart. Everyone is supposed to play after their tune and dance. However, no one else is supposed to counter or try on their own. That’s how this looks. This coming from one of the persons who has attacked the NUP after the elections.

That’s why this is tiring. This part seemed like someone you could look up to and get engaged in. That was just a lie. As they are only in it for their own and play by own rules. Never, accepting what other people does. Especially, the NUP should just follow and do the two-step. Never ever act on its own.

That’s why the FDC cry foul now and even wants to dismiss it’s own. They are so broken and lack moral courage. To even be gracious and move-on. They are not the big-dog anymore. Be leaders, act mature and take it on the chin. Show your character over this term and try again.

The FDC seems to lost their vibe and their Mojo. Like they have lost some vital parts and cannot operate in good faith. These folks who talks big. Should also act big. However, that’s to much to ask.

They are all for Democratic Change, but cannot the democratic change that has happened in the Parliament. Which they are smaller and the NUP is bigger. It is time for them to accept and eventually move-on. In 2016 they could act like big-shots in the opposition and in 2011 as well.

Now, the tide is turning and they just don’t seem ready for it. Time for Najjakumbi to visit Kamwokya and speak to the leaders there. I don’t think it would hurt. It would be a lesson of humility and maybe of finalization of maturity. Especially, if the FDC would ever continue to lecture the newcomer and their rise to power. It seems to be the only reasonable thing to do.

Unless, their only game-plan is to attack the NUP and Bobi Wine. Just like the NRM. Peace.

A look into the Shadow Cabinet of the 11th Parliament

Today, Leader of Opposition National Unity Platform (NUP) MP Mathias Mpuuga unveiled the appointments of his shadow cabinet. Now the opposition is taking form and the NUP shows maturity in their choices. However, there are some interesting choices.

We anticipated that the NUP would have an majority and it does. What is striking, after all the dust is settled… the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) get several of positions and other parties get it too. This is not a sole NUP operation. No, there are MPs from the Uganda People’s Congress (UPC), Democratic Party and Independents as well. Therefore, things has changed.

On the 28th May 2021 the first list was out and the ones picked for the Committees was mostly NUP and one JEEMA MP. That was a choice made by the NUP and the other parties felt left behind. Now, the LoP have taken them in, but don’t expect that to accept it or be gracious. Because, for instance the LoP have left behind the likes of Nathan Nandala-Mafabi and Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda. These will be foul and cry out loud. We just know this and be aware.

So, now on the 25th June 2021 the LoP have made this list and it’s a total of 30 members. There are 30 people in the shadow cabinet. While the original cabinet is at 81. So, they have slimmed it a little bit, but still giving roles to plenty.

It is a friendly reminder of a rising star in the opposition is to see Kampala Woman MP Shamim Malende, the lawyer and MP on the Justice and Constitutional Affairs. She’s one of out of plenty who has been called an “iron lady”. So, it will be interesting to see how she plays this out. As this is her first term as MP and being in Parliament. Been vocal as a People Power Movement lawyer and a critic fo government. Now, she has the moment to prove her skill and use this office for some good.

A person who didn’t need a party primary, but became the party flag-bearer nevertheless was Fortunate Rose Nantongo. Who replaced her deceased mother as the MP. She became the Democratic Party (DP) nominee after a handwritten application to the party. The rest is history and now she’s appointed to the Shadow Cabinet to the Gender, Labour and Social Development.

The Former Presidential Candidate Abed Bwanika is appointed to the shadow cabinet. He has turned into a NUP MP as well. It will be interesting to see a man like this who has been fishing fr relevancy and found his way to get into office. Now, will be in the shadow cabinet for agriculture. The former People’s Development Party (PDP) and who was so close to be part of the DP Block as well. This is why, I will find it interesting, if he will seek for McDonalds to trade in Uganda.

Then you Karim Masaba, the Independent MP for Mbale. Who is NUP Leaning. He is a childhood friend of Mityana MP Francis Zaake. Bobi Wine supported his candidacy directly and he was part of the NUP convoy, which routed across Mbale in 2020. Now his appointed to the Shadow Cabinet for the Tourism and Wildlife.

Surprise appointment at this point was Francis Mwijuke MP of the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC). We know he has a long history with Mpuuga. They have been together in the struggle since the Action 4 Change in 2011. Mwijuke is on his second term in office and been a vocal critic of the state. Still, he seemed very in favour of Kadaga as a speaker and not just doing it as a strategy. That’s why it’s interesting to see him in the Shadow Cabinet in the Trade & Industry.

Another interesting choice from Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) was Anna Ebaju Adeke. She is the former Makerere Guild President and has a Bachelor of Law. Other than the public known things, she has incorporated an foundation in 2020. This was the Anna Adeke Foundation Limited on 25th February 2020. In 2018, she was part of the deflecting MPs to the Alliance for National Transformation (ANT). However, that had to be short tint and only seeing if the ticket was viable. Since, by the times of elections she has gone to the FDC.

The one and only People’s Progressive Party MP Santa Okut have been appointed as well. She has represented the PPP before in the Parliament that was in the term of 2001 to 2006. The return is after a third try and never losing hope of returning back to Parliament. So, it will be interesting to see what she does and what ever she will do. As she’s alone in Parliament for a party founded in the early 2000s. Time will tell and she is appointed in the Shadow Cabinet for the Special Regions.

My last appointed that I find interesting… was Forum for Democratic Change Gilbert Olanya MP. He has been an Independent MP, but he become a FDC MP over time. He was another FDC MP who vied for Kadaga as speaker. Still, he been a resilient opposition MP. Who has been arrested for demonstrations in his district. This man hasn’t had it easy and put his work in. Still, it was interesting to see Mpuuga choosing him. In the Shadow Cabinet he will be working on the East African Community (EAC).

Just as we comments and look through the vast lists of Cabinet Members. The Shadow Government needs to be addressed as well. Not just praised, but wonder of their credentials too. This is why I do this. This is the first cabinet of Mpuuga. He has shown great heart, but let see how this plays out. Peace.

Uganda Young Democrats: UYD Office Surveillance by Police (25.04.2019)

Opinion: Bobi Wine throws a grenade into the 2021 elections!

For a leader to say a vote can never oust Museveni without offering a solution is disappointing. We believe in democracy and it should not depend on us but on people. What politicians can not solve, the people of Uganda can solve, they should continue to register as voters and be many” (…) “Don’t talk about democracy and stand four times and on the fifth time you say it doesn’t work, we believe it works” (…) “We have spent two years organising our people and we think now there’s strong competence to regain the control of the country. Apart from the ordinary people being organised, we need better organisation as political leaders. We need to be synchronised, coordinated to achieve what’s needed to be achieved, focused on where the problem lies…There has been some uncoordinated movements sometimes. This year is to make sure this is kept in the past and we move as a purposeful pro democratic force” – Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine on 4th April 2019 on the Launch of the Democratic Party Block or the Memorandum of Understanding between Democratic Party and Peoples Development Party and Social Democratic Party.

There are today signs, that Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine are imagine himself in the likes of DP’s Norbert Mao, PDP Abed Bwanika, SDP Michael Mabike, also with the ANT’s leader Maj. Gen. Mugisha Muntu and also JEEMA’s Asuman Basalirwa. It shows the friends of the rising star on the political spectrum. However, while he is speaking with peace, he is at the same time throwing grenades into the field of Opposition. Targeting directly FDC’s Dr. Kizza Besigye. That is shown today at Hotel Africana.

What Bobi Wine is showing today?

Partly, a bit of political naivety, a bit of ignorance and secondly, also a bit self-righteousness. Which all I will explain. Because, it is fine and dandy, that all these parties want to show an agreement to work together. That is fine for them. They can collectively achieve, what they think they will achieve. As the PDP, SDP, JEEMA and DP haven’t been boasting big of late. That JEEMA got an MP, their own Party President is good, but not a giant victory. Neither is the MPs won by the DP itself. PDP is one-man band cannot be seen as viable organization. Last, ANT of Muntu is just established and registered after a prolonged consultation period and mix of underlying needs, which haven’t been publicly specified.

Alas, if they think DP Block will be powerful and able to topple Museveni. They should look into the Inter-Party Cooperation (IPC) of 2011 and The Democratic Alliance of 2015. Alas, these sort of projects should be gone, because they are not strengthening the Opposition, but weakening it instead. However, I wish them good luck on their endeavours. Surely, Bobi Wine should take pictures of more books to learn from the past. This is the little notice on his political naivety.

On ignorance is on his attack of Besigye. As does he think Kizza Besigye would have run if his party didn’t send delegates to pick him? Does the politician himself, think Besigye would been on the ballot this many times if there was no internal political discourse within the FDC and established his candidacy? Isn’t that, why he believes in Democracy, because the FDC party has elected him to be their Presidential Flag-bearer?

However, in this regard, the man who has not aligned with any party before or been built an organization with a protocol. Shouldn’t he study that first, too? Shouldn’t Bobi Wine understand, why Norbert Mao can run again on his third stint? He couldn’t run last time, but would have if they allowed him. Is that Democratic, then? Secondly is democratic that Bwanika has run for President since 2006 on his own ticket? Again and again, believing that his church and Party would blow the Republic away. But it never did.

So, Bobi Wine should look around his own and what they been doing before throwing grenades at the FDC and Besigye. Surely, the DP Block will be no more than fling. A tiny fire with hope like the TDA for Amama Mbabazi. Because, nothing will topple Museveni at this point. As long as there is elections with Museveni on the ballot. There will be no peaceful transition. The last time he lost, he went to the bush and since taking power. There been no cheap-shot of a peaceful transition happening in the Republic.

Therefore, I don’t believe Bobi Wine, any Opposition Coalition or Joint Candidates can beat Museveni and the National Resistance Movement (NRM). For the simple reason, the President lingers and secures his allies places. While, he will intimidate, rig and do whatever it take to own the Crown. There is no democracy in that sense. He let the Opposition and the others win some bread-crumbs to look like it. But, still, there is like war-zones and planned interference in the By-Elections, that makes them more violent and sinister, than it needs to be.

Nevertheless, the hope for a better future, the hope for a transition is good and needed. But it is a false-flag right now. That a man who at the same moment claiming that he wants UNITY is still throwing grenades at the biggest Opposition Party. That shows that the UNITY isn’t that UNITED. It is just partly united and not in all sense. This is why the leader and the one whose been standing in the battle. Getting thrown under the bus. Because, why not right?

If it had been a democracy, been a righteous and fair elections. Than, the elections of 2015, 2011, 2006, 2001 and 1996 would have looked differently. Even by this time, the President wouldn’t have been the same over that time. It would have shifted. Also, the FDC has changed their Party President. Something, certain other parties that Bobi Wine is aligned to hasn’t done since its inception. The DP have changed, but the rest are Parties of One-Men Bands who are existing because of them and might be gone, when they have left the building too.

So, it is self-righteous of Bobi Wine, that is what is today. Instead of taking the high-road and such. He sounds more like Mao rip-off and its weak tea. Bobi Wine should know better, but apparently he don’t. I don’t know what got into him, but surely his showing his blazing glory. That his message and memo to the rest.

That he has utter faith in the Electoral Commission, that the appointed men of Museveni, the Security Apparatus and everyone else. Will obey the codes of law and pass over to the DP Block, because of their UNITY will be able to Topple Museveni. Sorry brother, but you got to be kidding me.

That is even worse than Kiggundu math. Get back to the drawing board and re-invent magic. Because, that doesn’t add up. Maybe, Bobi Wine has some love-potion or something to beat the Elections his way. Since, it doesn’t seem so to me. Peace.

Opinion: Mao’s empty run for the President in 2021!

I don’t know if Norbert Mao sees it or not, if he thinks he is so viable and has the ability to garn the masses. He tried in 2011 and got about 150,000 votes. In 2016, he couldn’t even be fielded as an candidate for MP for the Gulu Municipality in Gulu District.

Now in 2019, he plans to run as a Presidential Flag Bearer for the Democratic Party (DP). Which is fine enough, surely he will get support of Abed Bwanika and other ones joining the team. Alas, they are not combined in strength to ever compete with regime of today.

If he would ever think he has the capacity now, to build momentum and challenge Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, he is terribly wrong. No one is, because the system is built either for him to win, as the crook or by the book. There is nowhere in between that gives space for Mao to strive. Neither, does he has the capacity to garn the masses or even sound like a strong opposition figure.

Mao in the last go around supported the The Democratic Alliance and its candidate Amama Mbabazi. Which wasn’t successful either, that is why his been a vocal voice on NBS Frontline, but not a leader with a purpose, as he is more disfranchising the opposition and his own party, then building something strong. As he has let Lord Mayor of Kampala, Erias Lukwago (People’s Government, Betty Nambooze (People’s Government), Florence Nakiwala Kiyingi (Minister of State for Youth and Children Affairs ) and Mukasa Mbidde (EALA MP) go along with either with the NRM Camp or whis fellow Opposition Kizza Besigye alternative People’s Government.

Therefore, he has not shown strength as a leader of his own flock, neither his own leaders nor MPs, who has shown character and joined sides. His not sanctioned the ones directly taking part of NRM functions and within the Cabinet. Only shown strong words against the ones who has chosen a defiant side to the current regime. Which is striking in itself. Since, as a supposed viable opposition, he should show finesse in these manners, but instead shown partisanship, by whom he attacks.

Do I believe that Mao has a shot to the throne? No, do I believe anyone has? No. Does Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine or Dr. Kizza Besigye, at this point no. They are candidates that are more viable and has a bigger voice. More reason behind them and more consistent with their supporters. Nevertheless, the system is built for Museveni, so it doesn’t matter who the Opposition fields. Because, the system is made for all the others to loose, and for the incumbent of 1986 to win again.

So, even as Mao is now saying his a candidate for the highest office, he will self-destruct his chances of being an MP. Mao, will by default go against both Bobi Wine and Museveni. Who knows if Muntu will join the team and who the FDC fields for this. JEEMA, UPC and UFA has enough struggle to even get momentum for their MPs, they should focus there.

That is why, the only interesting thing about Mao’s return to the battle for the highest office. How will he explain his ineffectiveness towards his fellow MPs who accept a close relations with the NRM and why he has attacked Besigye and his People’s Government? Because what striking difference is it between a Mao of 2019 versus the ones who called Besigye a serial loser a few years back?

Since I cannot figure out a time or pretext, where I thought of Mao as a winner. He haven’t even had the ability to run for MP last election and before that, been abysmal as a Presidential Candidate in 2011. Therefore, a little humility and grace, would be nice, but maybe his planning a TDA 2.0 with himself, and hopes Muntu can join the team with his ANT(s). Peace.

Opinion: What relevance will Kyalya have in 2021? – Practically none.

The former Presidential Candidate Maureen Kyalya, the candidate who ran under The Independent Coalition (TIC) together with Elton Joseph Mabirizi. They were both candidates during the General Elections for the 2016. Now, that the Election Road-Maps is soon scheduled and the parties are preparing for up-coming elections and registration. The previous candidate is returning.

In mind and in spirit, proclaiming the return, Maureen Kyalya is saying she is coming back with a party and candidature for the Presidential Election in 2021. Even if her last attempt was abysmal and should make her shed tears for her relevancy.

That is why she has spoken up against Bobi Wine during 2018 and proven her undying loyalty to the President. This meaning, that the only thing she thinks she get by doing all this. Is that she can get a pay-check and validate her needs to the Heads of State. President Museveni surely knows she is no threat, just like Gen. Benon Biraaro or Abed Bwanika. They are both posting up doing their thing and letting by-goons be by-goons. That is just the tradition of the elections. The other candidates are just stressing interfering individuals. The President needs more the VP Edward Ssekandi and the likes.

Presidential Candidate for whatever her name of her party will still be irrelevant. Even a chapti stand in any Kampala market have more fans than Kyalya, a newly furnished Taxi with grand seats have more spenders, than Kyalya will have. People know what she is, she does too, but want to play a big shot. When she really isn’t.

Maureen Kyalya can act like she has a shot like she has an opportunity to win or act like winner. If she was running to become a governor, residential district commander or even being an representative in the Busoga region. That would have made sense, because the candidate have been vocal about that, ever since she turned a politician. However, she has not shown interests or ability to prove knowledge of anything else. Maybe she should even visit the ferries and take a trip to the Ssese Islands to see the relatives of the Busoga. Just to get her mind refreshed and even see the borderline of the fiefdom of the Busoga. That would be healthy for her, maybe broaden her vision.

Because of last year, we know she is just a pawn, a secret lover of Museveni and his vision. She creates a party and candidature, only in hopes of being appointed somewhere substantial. She wants the Mama Mabira and Betty Kamya money too. Kyalya wants to pocket money too.

Maureen is not fielding her candidature for relevance nor popularity. Because there is none. Just like we haven’t talked about Mabarizi since the previous elections. 2021 will not make a difference, unless she can spend money like Mbabazi, spread the message like Bobi Wine and actually be a difference like Besigye. Alas, Kyalya is just a pawn, not a king or a queen. She wish she was, but the public is indifferent. The reason why I write this, because the public shouldn’t care or even take her serious.

Kyalya, the up-coming Presidential Candidate and newly minted Political Party, will not have organization or funding, unless someone who needs a Busoga party to represent itself. Than, there is just a front, a shop and one-person party made for the election. Not a sincere political apparatus or political motivated for a difference.

So, time to put the nail in the coffin and time for Maureen to go to the State House, beg for mercy and ask for a hiring. Become the Presidential Advisor for Busoga or something. Because, she will need that, she is not relevant now nor tomorrow, unless she stumbles on the humble onto something substantial and significant, which is profound and meaningful. However, trust me. That didn’t happen during the last campaign of hers and will not happen now either. Peace.

DP Reunion in Jinja: Cancelled out by the Calvary!

The Partisan Police Force was again at it, as the Democratic Party and Uganda Young Democrats had scheduled a Reunion on the Jinja Rugby Grounds. The Party Officials and the Organizers had notified as by law to hold the meeting in Jinja, however, the Police blocked the venue and did arrest several of DP officials.

What was striking as the authorities, the DP Reunion, took the DP President Norbert Mao was blocked, there was thrown tear-gas in Jinja. But, the Police quickly reported to the Daily Monitor, that the President of DP was negotiation and holding a consulting meeting with the officers at the Central Police Station of Jinja. Not, that he was directly arrested as previously reported by other sources. Clearly, there are something missing. As the State was notified, the paper trail has leaked online, by Mao himself. Therefore, it was known by the state since early February.

The Police does this simple cat- and mouse game with opposition. AS they have to comply with the restrictions of the Public Order Management Act and even if they do so. They still can be blocked for whatever reason the Regional Police Commander and others to clarify their intent. As, if the meeting and the rally itself was saying enough. We are getting close enough to the National Campaign Road Maps for 2020/21, that if a Party doesn’t comply them in combination with the POMA. They will be in deep trouble with the state. As we have seen previously in the Republic.

What the DP and UYD seen today isn’t groundbreaking, not a watershed moment or sign of the decades of control of Museveni. No, this is just the ordinary manifestation of the power and force, the state use against dissidents. Even the ones that usually complies and are very friendly to the powers, that be. But because, they still tries to operate as an independent opposition party, they still get into legal jeopardy. Because, that is how the state operates and continues to do so. Until the swearing-in of Museveni for the 6th time and pursuit of his 8 rings of service. There will surely be plenty more of this in the two years coming, 2020 and 2021, will be filled with stories like these. Just different names and parties, but the same mumbo jumbo.

What has been done in Jinja today to the leadership of the DP is nothing new. These arrests comes with a steady phase. Especially in a run-up to elections and within the narrow window of the campaigns. As well as during campaigns and the post-elections. If you’re lucky, you get extra bonus rounds of house-arrests and treason charges. That is for the unique, popular and resilient sort of politicians. Not mere mortals get that. They are behind bars and released on mockery of charges. Before, they try again to hold a rally or campaign. Peace.

Opinion: Norbert Mao will kick- and scream, but not act upon the indisciplined!

The Democratic Party in Uganda have been for long, seemed like a NRM-Lite. Like the sort of brew, that stinks like the ruling party, but isn’t the ruling the party. Feel me?

Therefore, the latest Presser with DP President Norbert Mao is coming of age. Like Whiskey if you like, its supposed to get better with age. However, in the case of Mao, it becomes more bitter and less flavourful. He might have more swagger in words and could resemble a vintage Tamale Mirundi. But his actions are weak.

Mao could have acted with swift actions against the “Good DP”, the DP’s whose in favour of the President. This being Fred Mukusa Mbidde or Florence Nakiwala Kiyingi. However, as he said he didn’t favour their positions nor sanctioned them. They should question their allegiance to the Party. However, that not been in question. Even Mbidde has been hanging around Museveni and the NRM Party in needed time before the vote of EALA MPs. Therefore, he did it too eat.

That was fun cases, as the DP Party getting prospects of power and reach. Even Mao didn’t directly sponsor or go behind it. He still hasn’t sanctioned it. His soft actions of letting it be and letting the MPs decides for themselves, where they want to be.

However, his words haven’t been soft after the People’s Government of Kizza Besigye was formed. The words against Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago and Betty Nambooze Bakireke has been fierce. The daggers was out and he was ready to get his game. Clearly, Mao was insulted that they went to work with Besigye. A man he has called loser, surely, because Mao favoured Mbabazi the NRM member gone “independent” over a real opposition. That is why just like Museveni, Mao throws shade on the ones affiliating with other opposition.

Surely, Mao sees it fine to hanging out with Abed Bwanika and other into the fold. But they are growing the stature or the stamina of the NRM-lite. Instead, they are showing a diminishing factor and lack of progress. The DP isn’t looking better.

Neither is Mao, whose been brash with words against others. But he himself wasn’t capable of even running as MP in the last General Election of 2016 and his stint on the 2011 trail wasn’t amazing either. Maybe, that is why he has become so friendly with NRM and Mbabazi. Because, he needs kingpins and support. That is why he is still entertained on the NBS Frontline, while the likes Mira Matembe was kicked-out. Surely, the man whose drinks soda at the Police Stations, while the others are behind bars for the same “inciting violence and disturbing the peace”. Therefore, he must have done something to someone to have that reach.

That is why his so inactive and enable of sort, but when his own men, his own members and people are acting in spite of the regime. He comes kicking and screaming, but was soft like dove when the Mzee came knocking. Seriously, there is something not adding up. However, then again, the DP acts and talks like NRM-lite.

Therefore, he has to strike at the ones who forcefully shows finesse and goes against the dictatorship. Not just mere puppets for the facade. If Masaka’s own, Mathias Mpuga Nsamba showed gravitas like during the Walk to Work. That would be a living hell for the DP President. Who surely thinking of how to run as an MP or Presidential Candidate after the failure of last go-around. As his party is flinched between to stations and not sure where to take-off.

What is clearly showing is that Norbert Mao. Isn’t the enforcer or the deciding anything. He has a microphone and a office, but not using it. Because, people makes decisions on their own and don’t have to follow party line. Neither, if its being a GOOD DP or a BAD DP. That doesn’t matter.

This saga will continue, especially in the run-up to 2021. Mao got to make headlines and act like he does something. Even when he in reality does nothing. Just let them say and speak their peace. Not that it matters, as long as he doesn’t serve time or feel the stench of tear-gas while politicking. Peace.
