Opinion: Can we bury the BBI now?

Today the Court of Appeal final orders on the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) which has been a fixated feature of Kenyan politics since the Handshake of President Uhuru Kenyatta and Opposition Leader Raila Odinga. That shocked the people and made the BBI a possible targeted.

The Court of Appeals was in favour of the Judgement of the High Court. This meaning the whole BBI is an unconstitutional endeavour. The President did an unconstitutional act by initiating and promoting constitutional changes. The BBI Steering Committee was an unconstitutional and unlawful entity. Certainly, the same should be directed to the BBI Task-Force as well, but not mentioned in the pages dropped on Twitter.

So, again the BBI is said to be unlawful and unconstitutional. By that definition the whole process and all the time spent on this. Is a total failure of the Jubilee and Orange Democratic Movement (ODM). They acted without the popular demand and without the measures needed to amend the constitution. This being done by supposed scholars and lawmakers. The President a former MP and the same is Odinga. They have both in the halls of power and they should know the articles of Constitution. So, that if they wanted the Constitution to be amended, they would follow procedure and protocol.

Instead the peace-offering and the handshake was so powerful. That the two gentlemen and their parties felt the euphoria and wanted another high. They felt like they owned the Republic and could rule the world. Therefore, they thought they could easily change the rules and legislation without proper protocol.

Now it is evident that they did it the wrong way and not done by law. The gentlemen in question tried to change the constitution, by not following the same constitution they wanted to change. The President should have enough advisors and legal scholars to tell him what to do. Instead, he has tried to circumvent and used the BBI as a tool to get the amendments the leaders wanted.

However, BBI by this second court order it should be taken into a casket and put six feet under. The BBI isn’t only on the death-bed, but deceased and need to be buried. The casket is ready to be dropped. The reggae is now stopping.

What is striking is that this has been the main topic for the Second Term of President Kenyatta. This has been the real prospect and proof of policy during this term. Kenyatta and Odinga has invested everything in this. The Jubilee hasn’t delivered the “Big Four” or anything else they really promised in the 2017 elections. Therefore, the BBI was the …. gift that was giving, but now it’s just poison.

That’s because the BBI was built on a false premise. The BBI was fake and fraud, a unconstitutional constitutional amendment drive, which is epically backfiring. The leaders of men has not only failed this enterprise, but wasted the whole time doing this. The BBI is a proof of how not run government and pay-off your opposition. They are both losers in this… and the Kenyan citizens has paid the Committee and Task-Force.

Kenyatta and Odinga is the ones that needs to carry this cross. They have been working on overtime for this. Holding campaign meetings and consultations. They have hired people and acted like supreme overlords. However, nobody is above the law and even them has to honour the codes. That is what it striking here.

Lessons should be learned. The BBI should be school-yard example of how not make constitutional amendments.

Can somebody please bury the BBI and everything that reminds us of it. It has been an expensive and a time consuming enterprise leading to nothing. Peace.

Opinion: Humiliation is a part of the game Mr. Ruto

Ruto Grounded: DP Ruto was this evening forced to abandon a private trip to Uganda after authorities at Wilson Airport stopped him from travelling saying he needed prior authorisation” (NTV Kenya, 02.08.2021).

Today, Deputy President William Ruto was barred from travelling from Wilson Airport to Entebbe Airport in Uganda. The Deputy have a close and good bond with the Ugandan President. As he has gotten a big name and certainly in good favours across the borders.

However, today he got an old lesson. Ruto was snubbed at Kabarak back in 2018. So, he had this happening to then and now again. This isn’t something new. The President and his close associates has done this to the Deputy or the VP in the past.

Just like Jomo did to Moi:

Once upon a time, according to Daniel Toroitich arap Moi, he was summoned by President Jomo Kenyatta to Nakuru – only to be humiliated by Provincial Commissioner Isaiah Mwai Mathenge. Moi had apparently arrived early in the evening at State House, Nakuru, to see the old Jomo, but Mathenge and the President’s aide-de-camp kept him in the waiting room but allowing numerous groups to jump the queue in a bid to infuriate and humiliate Moi” (Diaspora Messenger – ‘Wrath: Moi’s revenge on Men who humiliated him when he was VP’ 12.07.2021).

Ruto is getting a lesson today. He is playing with fire and at some point you going to get burned. That is just a natural cause. Yes, this is unrighteous. However, he had no trouble making issues and warrants on Governor Joho during the campaigns and post-elections in 2017. Therefore, the state can easily find their targets and block things for political affiliation. Right now that goes his way, because he is going against the grain.

Ruto will taste what NASA/CORD did in the two last elections. If things continues like this. Then he will have to go after the successive candidate in Odinga who is running around with ‘Teflon’ and support of Kenyatta. Therefore, he should consider his way forward and not take things for granted anymore.

The Deputy has raised the stakes and become an “loner” within the state administration. His a part of the government who he ran on a ticket twice. The Deputy has the Office and is the Second highest ranked official. Still, he is not in favours or has the good graces. This is a conundrum and his pickle. He is a government official, but a sort of opposition at the same time.

This a humiliation ahead of the 2022 elections, as the stakes are getting higher and the players are getting ready. Ruto will be in the middle of this. His without a party and is an opposition. That’s his troubling place right now and he has to fix this. There is not much time to do that and make the machinery going. It is not like he got Cambridge Analytica on speed-dial or anyone else of the companies helping them out last time around.

Ruto has a name and a history behind him. There will be possibly more times Uhuru humiliate him. As the President wants to prove a point. The point being who has the power and who has pendulum pointing in their direction. However, that might backfire like Moi’s own succession of Uhuru. When Kibaki got into office and that’s maybe what Ruto is searching for himself.

Nevertheless, it is not without cost. Choices and decisions made will have a price… and that is what Ruto was feeling today. It is not shocking, but an old method of politicking to prove who is the master and who is the servant. Peace.

Opinion: Odinga & Ruto is a different side of the same coin

The preparations for the elections in 2022 are in full effect. There is no shadow of a doubt, as One Kenya Alliance (OKA) is declaring their bid and the season for Presidential Candidacy is steaming ahead. As that one of the rejects of NASA/CORD is working on their thing.

There is two other main candidates doing their bidding. William Ruto, the Deputy President of the last two terms under the Jubilee umbrella and Raila Odinga (Orange Democratic Movement) who has challenged that, but int the end gotten more power with a handshake with the President Kenyatta in the beginning of the last term.

Ruto will not bring changes, he will sing the worship songs of the hustler nation. Meanwhile Odinga will come with his best of hits and another edition of the road to Canaan. They will both promise great things and move mountains. However, in the end… I feel they will deliver the about the same.

Ruto has had the opportunity for two terms do something substantial, but instead he has ben busy giving away money in church. Odinga on the other hand have been busy toying around with a constitutional referendum, which would be his biggest achievement, though it has been done though the wrong measures and therefore, been deemed illegal by the courts.

So, they have both wasted their time. Odinga could have been a vocal opposition and kept the Jubilee in order. Instead, he compromised himself and sold out the agenda for a flawed BBI. Ruto has started an internal campaign and a battle of power, which he seems to lose for now, but maybe earn on in the up-coming campaign.

No matter what… these two fellas will not bring massive changes. They have both been so connected and ensured themselves vast wealth. That they will not bring big-changes or make things prosperous. They know why they have found wealth and I doubt they want to give that up for the majority of the people.

This is system is rigged against the public. That’s why Chebukati is still the Chairman of the IEBC. He will bring the goods and deliver to the Gods. The cartels and the elites will continue to eat. No matter what of these two that gets elected. They are both willing to trade and bargain with the ones with deep pockets to get their way.

That’s why no matter what sort of party Ruto runs with, if it wheelbarrows or hustler spirit. We all know the drill and the appeal, but we also know the endgame. It is all a nice campaign slogans and cheap politicking, but when his in office. It is all about his companies, his allies and securing power.

I think Odinga will be similar. He will promise Canaan or a version of that and show to the brilliance of BBI. He will promise swift changes and radicalization of the state, but he hasn’t used the BBI or the handshake to do this. When he has had the ear and most of the Parliament on his side after that. He could have proven this and made some golden bricked roads, alas that was never the case. Odinga just wants power to and be able to keep the dynasties alive.

Therefore, none of these tickets are viable in 2022. Not that OKA is either, but that is just for another day. When we want to discuss meal-ticket politicians and bargain hunters for the State House. Because, that’s what that is… and its not beautiful. Peace.

Opinion: OKA is the knock-off “CORD/NASA” coalition ahead of 2022

Today, the One Kenya Alliance (OKA) principals had a technical meeting ahead of the elections in 2022. This is a clear indication of their way ahead. These is making themselves important and boosting their chances in the upcoming elections. Several of these are the up-shots and the ones who was never benefiting much from the Handshake in 2018. Neither, have these earned any fortunes on the BBI.

That’s why these leaders are trying to find the winning formula. Now without the Orange Democratic Movement and Raila Odinga. Several of these have run with him twice and still not been able to get into office. Now, they are trying without him, but instead using the dynasty of KANU and Moi to get the final push.

As we are seeing… the OKA is a knock-off and a third edition of CORD/NASA called OKA. There several of the same faces, but some new add-ons. This is very clear. They are doing the same thing, but has Moi instead of Odinga and his party.

That is how this can initially be translated. The team is weak and not a winning one. OKA is running on the same ideals and same principals as the NASA/CORD, but not even having the charismatic and political skilled Odinga on their team.

They are putting their bets on Moi and that KANU to put them forward. While KANU haven’t had a big say in ages. The Moi dynasty haven’t pushed things ahead for ages. Even when the father was alive. Everyone when to Kabarak for advice, but not for surge of political capital. That capital doesn’t Gideon have… even with the name and history of his family. This is why this is a challenge.

Even if Ruto or Odinga goes against this team. There will be possibility to beat it at this point. Unless, they are having some sort of unknown cards or campaign programs. Which doesn’t seem likely.

Most of these have been for ages in the political landscape and has joined the right parties. These has had the opportunities under other people’s reign. It is not like any of these has won or have the policies that people will believe in. All of them have to much history of being players and meal-ticket politicians. Who has all looked for their interests and moved ship for a better fortune. Therefore, the OKA is a failure from the get-go and this will end in tears. Peace.
