The Filipino President Rodrigo Duterte can be acclaimed the victor of the 13th May 2019 Midterms, as his candidates all across the board is sealing their victory. The preliminary results within the 24 hours after the polls was already making it look like a landslide and that was all on unofficial results. Now, that more and more results is out. The proof is in the pudding.
There is no denying it, the magic twelve, the 12 Senators of these Midterms is people in favour and associated with the President. All of them is on board and the Opposition Candidates are not able to get in. Not as its only small canvassing left of the votes. Even with the glitches and the problematic SD-Cards, the results are still the same. The ones whose blessed with endorsement from the President has all become part of the magic twelve.
There are also the knowledge of the local governments where allies, associates and former workers of the President have won seats, mayoral or positions of representatives. This is all across the board. They have been announced and the truth is out.
What we have seen is some questionable things, what is more defining is the lack of value of the ballots, as this is prolonging suspension, as the Senators are not finalized after 48 hours. Tomorrow, it will be a week since the 13th May to 20th May 2019.
Because, it is rare, that the official results takes this long time. That we’re on the 6 day since the polls and the COMELEC is not able to issue the Official Results. As they are still partial for the Senators. Still, these results are showing that the President is getting his endorsed candidates.
This seems also likely in the local governments all around. By all means, there districts and towns, where mayors are in opposition, but these are either retaining their place or a minor victory. As there are several of others in the area, where the ones in association of the President are getting positions. Therefore, this is a slam dunk.
The results, the victories been made on both local level and national level is a sign that the President and his associates got a strong grip on power. That the politicking and bargaining will continue, as the dynasties, the plunders and others are still in the realm of power. These people are in and around the President. He might speak vile about corruption, but some of the people he has endorsed are plunders and been charged for that.
President Duterte has won this one, nothing else to say and that the opposition are wiped out. They are really hit hard, even as the COMELEC haven’t delivered proper polls, because the announcing of official results has taken so long. This jeopardize the results and also the credibility of the polls. This is well-known facts and also is a worrying sign. It should have been done quickly and not over this long time.
Duterte should be worried about COMELEC, unless he wants that to stain his victory and possibly next election. As the Commission needs to be revamped and secured enough funds for the up-coming elections.
The President have won now, but if they want to look totally good. The COMELEC needs something, the system needs upgrades, as the days goes by, the strength of the election dwindles. Since, it shouldn’t be this hard to count the ballots. Peace.
Well, if I understand the results I have seen so far, as they are only preliminary, they are in favour of the ruling party, their allies and of most of their well-wishers. Seemingly, this election is solidifying the position of President Rodrigo Duterte, not only in the Senate, but in local government too. As the wards I have seen its been all positive for him.
I might be that I am just checking in the right corners of the Republic. But he seems like winner now. That the PDP-Laban and the other allies are victors. The Independents and the Opposition many places are losing their steps.
Therefore, as this election goes, it seems that the President is just getting stronger. That is how it seems as off now, but when the official results are out. It might change, but this election seems like his.
While National Citizens Movement for Free Elections (NAMFREL) own statement earlier today have sent stern warnings from their volunteers on the way the elections was conducted in various of areas. As there was technical glitches in the voting machines, there was acknowledged of buying votes and so on. Therefore, these elections aren’t perfect, as there are certain things that still needs to be addressed. This was from their statement of 2100H Filipino Time 13th May 2019. There will be surely more statements from them and the likes. Showing the other side of the Election too.
We have to see how this goes, but by now, the results are going in favour of the President and his allies. Unless, there is a lot of unverified results hidden somewhere. This seems like a giant haul for him and nothing else.
By the time I wake up, the results might be different. But as I go to sleep, the results are surely a vindication of the Presidency, as he has more of his people in positions, not only in the Senate, but also elsewhere. Peace.
“The love of money is corrosive. And sadly, the desire to make the easy kind by being imaginative and manipulative, corrupts absolutely. Stolen wealth does not make the thief respectable. Neither will the trappings of wealth mask [nor] cap the stink that thievery exudes. One day, justice will catch up with those who steal government funds. And when that day comes, it will be the public who will have its retribution” – Rodrigo Duterte extract from the State of the Union 2018 (23.07.2018).
Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo is lucky that she is out of prison and not serving more time for the scandals she has had in the past. The way power has evolved her and consumed her. So, that she got elevated to Speaker of the House yesterday before the State of the Union 2018. That is why I have to use an extract from the current President Rodrigo Duterte, who claims to fight corruption, but still have to keep her around. Even after all her scandals and public misuse of trust. She is the epitome of what Duterte are about to fight, unless it is just empty words.
I will show a few fragments of the “Hello Garci” Scandal, as that is the worst one, where she used the post-election time to rig the election in her favor. This was done with manipulated results from Mindanao by COMELEC Officials that she had appointed in the months before the election. That was deliberate activity to keep herself in power and get another term in office. There other scandals she has been a part of, but rigging yourself into power and misuse that trust should never be forgiven. As how can anyone trust her now?
These are just a few reports, who can wonder if she rigged herself into becoming the Speaker of the House yesterday to take the position from Pantaleon Alvarez. Duterte should remember what she has done and should impeach her, if he is legit about fighting corrupt people. As the Arroyo administration isn’t what he should be associated with. That is is if he wants to end in another light than her.
First comes an old report from COSCA, which states what PCAD reported about the elections, before a year later, what the Philippines Center for Investigative Journalism wrote in 2005 and what Ager wrote in Philippine Daily Inquirer in 2011. All of which explains different part of the scandal and shows the extent that Arroyo went too, to get a second term.
“According to members of the People’s Congress of Authentic Democracy (PCAD), our nation is in deep crisis because of the credibility of the electoral process has been totally undermined by the ease with which the Arroyo administration has used the whole bureaucracy and state resources to perpetuate itself in power” (Gregorio L. Quitangon – ‘RP in the midst of political and Economical Crisis’ September 2004, COSCA – Palaso Volume 1 Issue 5).
““He set up the infrastructure for cheating,” says Sen. Aquilino Pimentel, who has heard the “Garci” recording and who led the opposition protest against alleged vote rigging in the 2004 elections. “He was the operator for Gloria. He knew how the cheating was done in Mindanao and he manipulated the vote so GMA’s lead would not be less than one million.” In an interview with journalists on June 7, just days before his mysterious disappearance, Garcillano denied all these allegations and insisted it was not his voice on the tape. But several Comelec officials interviewed by the PCIJ as well as former Comelec chair Christian Monsod confirm it is indeed Garcillano’s voice that is in the recording” (…) “The wiretapped recordings, which start on May 17, 2004, a week after elections, and end on June 18, give little indication of Garcillano’s role during the election campaign and the actual voting. It is, however, a treasure trove for uncovering the postelection manipulation of the results. It is apparent from the conversations that Garcillano was the orchestrator, the conductor of a symphony of fraud, at least for Mindanao” (Sheila S. Coronel – ‘Master Operator’ 02.07.2005, Philippine Center for Investigative Journalism)
“Nagamura Moner told the Senate committee that he paid the election officers in some areas in Mindanao to change the results in favor of Arroyo. “What was the money for?” asked Senate President Juan Ponce-Enrile. “It was to pay the election officers…because at that time, the results of the counting showed that (Fernando Poe Jr) was winning by landslide,” Moner said. “You were bribing election officers?” Enrile asked again. “Yes your honor although I have not met them,” Moner said. Moner said a total of 400,000 pesos (US$9,300) was spent in Tawi-Tawi and 500,000 pesos ($12,000) in Sulu to change the results of the elections in these areas. Moner said he was tapped by then Philippine Ports Authority general manager Alfonso Cusi for the operation because his brother -in -law, Efren Bollozos, was working as manager of the PPA” (Maila Ager, Philippine Daily Inquirer, September 13, 2011).
She might won the case: [P.E.T. CASE No. 002. March 29, 2005] RONALD ALLAN POE a.k.a. FERNANDO POE, JR., protestant, vs. GLORIA MACAPAGAL-ARROYO, as the resolution claimed that Poe Jr. and Party hadn’t enough merit to claim rigging or election fraud. However, with the “Hello Garci” tapes have proven, what people knew and why the results from Mindanao took so long time to be verified. As the results was doctored to favor Arroyo’s administration. Therefore, she is not a righteous leader. Even if she has been released in 2016 after a few years in prison. She still, will be remembered for the cheating to stay in power. That is why it is weird to get her as Speaker in this time and day. People should never forget what she did and what she has done.
It isn’t like this story will end. Because this history will follow her. Arroyo will be remembered for her ways and what she has done in the past as a politician. It is not like the tally hasn’t changed.
When you as corrupt as you are known for stealing elections, you should be shunned from roles so high to power as the speaker. Arroyo shouldn’t be this high up, she should been under investigation or even barred from entering the premises of the august house. That is if there is justice in this world and someone aren’t more entitled than others.
Arroyo or GMA should have not fought for this position. Hopefully all her old sins gets into the public. Not only “Hello Garci”, but all the rest of them, also the victims of her extra-judicial killings in the early start of the millennium, that Human Rights Watch has written about back-in-the-day. All of this should pop-up in the atmosphere and she should answer for that. Not guide the August House. She got nothing to do there, except for entitlement. Peace.
There been reports of violence, killings and even arrests as the public are preparing to go the polls. After my calculations over 20 people have died in incidents connected with the elections. Therefore, the elections has already cost lives, which shouldn’t be necessary, in the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections of 2018 or in election for that matter!
Let’s hope the added military and police in the streets will make it peaceful, also the ban of fire-arms and alcohol can secure all of it. That the public holiday the election day can be plus. Even as the possible pay-offs on Saturday and Sunday, may sway voters in their directions, as the incumbents and others are trying to secure their post for this term. Let’s hope people go for the ones, who is less corrupt and the ones with integrity, even as the posts are paying little. However, it is a elected public office, so your not supposed to take that for wealth, but for will of serving the community. Even in the smallest office as a captain and councilors at the local Barangay. Your not supposed to enrich yourself or your clan. You are supposed to serve the community.
Let’s hope and pray for peaceful affairs and not more loss of lives. This is small local positions, this is not an election for the Parliament, like the Representatives and Senators even. These are the position in the local council and local government levels. Therefore, lets hope the candidates, the local security officials and that the volunteers trained by the COMELEC are ready for the elections. Make them as fair as possible, and that they make sure that, this a credible election. Even as there are some irregularities that I have mentioned in a previous post. But let’s still be hopeful.
We can hope and live in these days, that the Security Officials and that the ones contesting are acting within reason, as well as the polling staff will act according to protocol and not rig it. There will always be some who wants to take advantage of a situation, but that doesn’t mean everyone. Like there are reports from various provinces that the Barangay’s haven been frenetically candidates buying votes. Therefore, this may sway the electorate to one direction from another. As well as in certain Barangay’s there are many unopposed, meaning they will go straight back to office without any real contest. These are the bad signs connected with the sad deaths. However, not all are, so let’s still be a bit hopeful.
But let’s hope for peaceful election day, let’s pray for safety of all people and also, for a credible affair, where the best candidates wins. Peace.
Just as the President has ordered, a holiday for the Barangay and SK Election on the 14th May and the short campaign season are starting in two days. The Parish Pastoral Council for Responsible Voting (PPCRV) have been reported to lack volunteers for being Pollwatcher’s during these elections. The PPCRV has announced only to have 70,000 out of 370,000 needed personnel. This people needs training and are to assist the Commission on Elections (COMELEC).
Therefore, the authorities has a lot of work to do, to secure the ballots and the elections in the coming days. If these reported numbers are true, as the elections has already been postponed more than once since October 2017.
We already know the COMELEC has saved a lot of headache with the Press Release in January 2018, where they stated: “The Commission on Elections is set to use the already printed October 23, 2017 official ballots, accountable and non-accountable forms for purposes of the May 14, 2018 Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) Elections in an effort to save public funds and government resources”(COMELEC, 18.01.2018). That just begs the question if they can fill in new names on the ballot or if the candidates was pre-fixed for this election? Because times change, and someone might drop their candidate between the October 2017 and the May 2018.
Therefore, there are some hurdles for perfection concerning governance, though understandable from a budgetary standpoint. That is just from the offset questions that can be risen. That the applications and candidates for these elections might differ from the previous ones of last year.
The state clearly has postponed already twice, so they are in need of holding it. So they have legitimate local government bodies within the Republic. However, the simple questions, that are stated these days comes quickly to mind. When the Commissioners will lack PollWatchers.
There are 42,026 Barangays around the Republic, meaning there is in dire need of brief and quick teachings of process and protocol of Pollwatcher’s to overlook the election. To secure the credible results and secure a legitimate local government in and around the country. If there were only two polling stations in each Barangay, which is most likely to small of number, then the need for watchers would be 84,000 of them. However, the PPCRV asked for the estimated 370,000 and that has to be achieved.
A good thing about this election is the direct spending limit for candidates, as the incentive to spend money to buy voters should become less evident, even if previous elections has been filled with kick-backs and promises. “The spending limit for the #BSKE2018 is 5 pesos per voter in the barangay where the candidate is running for office. For Example: if Barangay X has 3,000 registered voters, then the spending cap for candidates running in Barangay X is 3,000 x 5 pesos, or 15,000 pesos. In the same example, if neighbouring Barangay Y has 20,000 voters, then the spending cap for Barangay Y candidates will be 20,000 x 5 pesos, or 100,000 pesos. Note that the spending limit is based on REGISTERED VOTERS, not population” (COMELEC, 2018).
I hope for good and clean campaigns, without too much interference and issues that overshadow the democratic process. However, you never know, when the Narco-Listed and Hot-Spots list are coming in a narrow time frame concerning the official holiday announcement.
We can just hope that the candidates are prepared, all the electoral bodies and that the Electoral Officials and everyone involved will deliver a credible election, where the will of the public happens and not predetermined results. There are some pieces you can question, because it leaves doubt in the voting material, but that might be altered to fit this compared to the ones in October 2017.
Let’s hope and see, hopefully the ones who has the most drive, talent and are accountable to their public. Get their places locally, not just political dynasties, and their narrative to control the pockets of their local barangay. Peace.
