Tchad: The sudden fall of Idriss Déby Itno
“Idriss Déby Itno has just had his last breath defending territorial integrity on the battlefield,” said army spokesman General Azem Bermandoa Agouna in a press release read on TV Tchad.
“President Idriss Déby has died of injuries sustained on the frontline. There has been heavy fighting in northern Tchad after FACT rebels launched an offensive on 11 April 2021 aimed at removing President Deby from power” (Intelligence Fusion – Africa, 20.04.2021).
“Death of President Idriss Déby Itno as a result of injuries received while commanding his army in battles against the “Front for Alternation and Concord in Chad.” The announcement was made on Tuesday by the military in a statement read on national television” (Mikado FM, 20.04.2021)
In N’Djamena, the capital of Tchad the President since 2nd December 1990 is has been known as the Field Marshal (maréchal) of Tchad, Idriss Déby Itno, the President of the Republic and the head of state (chef d’État).
This man is now history. FACT rebels released their 10th Statement claiming the President was hurt. They also claimed the rebellion had killed several of high ranking officials as well. In Chad/Tchad things will now change. The man who run the nation with an iron fist is now gone. The man who was the personification of the state. He is now gone and only the one closely associated with the state will mourn. The reason for the rise of the rebellion is because of the reign of Deby Itno.
The reason for his fall is the reason for his reign. The man who overstayed and used military power to stay in-office. That has no also taken his life. As he in his hubris and arrogance went out to the battlefield and died of the wounds he got. The man should know better, but he thought he was superior or above the games of war.
The Field Marshal, President and Head of State clearly thought he could directly defeat the rebels. However, they are now continuing their battles with the “interim” unelected government as well. They defeated the head, but they still have more of the cronies ahead.
Idriss Déby Itno is going out the way he came into power. He came into power like this:
“2 December 1990: Rebel forces of General Idris Deby occupied Ndjamena Chad as President Hissen Habre fled across the Chari river to Cameroon”.
Now another rebel force is a threat to N’Djamena and the rulers there. It is 31 years down the line and the system has been rigged way. Because one man decided to rule for life and with all powers within his office. That is what also took it. He though he was greater and bigger than anyone else. The President thought he was Teflon and Bulletproof. However, his just a mortal and human in end of it all.
Long live the King, the King is dead. Peace.
