Cameroon: FAO warns about food insecurity in the anglophone region and in the far-north

In Cameroon, as the Ghost President Biya is more preoccupied with sending arms and soldiers to the Anglophone regions of the North-West and South West Regions, also continuing trouble of insurgency of the far-North of the Republic.

With the trouble that has been going-on for a long while. What is really special about the FAO report is that its not projecting the coming months, but analysing only the previous months. Usually, they are projecting what is coming it the up-coming seasons too. Therefore, there are substantial lack of data for FAO, if not they have not been allowed to show this. That is just the way I see it, as I have seen plenty of FAO reports and this was lacking.

Here is the vital things from it:

In the North-West and South-West regions, harvests (maize, plantain and yams) are ongoing, however roadblocks put in place by successions groups are disrupting trade, causing further price increases and hindering the delivery of assistance. Moreover, the lack of access or abandonment of fields is likely to result in the third consecutive below average season. In the Far North, difficult road access is challenging the delivery of assistance to vulnerable people and insecurity has hindered the preparation of the main agricultural season. Cattle rustling during attacks by Boko Haram are frequent, depriving owners of a significant source of income. Moreover, increasing infestation of fall army worm is likely to affect maize production” (FAO . Cameroon, October 2019).

We can clearly see the troubles ahead for these regions. As there are no remedy and only more stressing factors remaining. There isn’t the security or the promise of ordinary production or farming in these regions. But that is not weird either, considering the implications and the ones fleeing from armed soldiers coming their way. Therefore, the stress level might only get worse and the lack of possible support from the UN agencies, might even make it worse too. Since, the state is only creating more suffering and lack of safety.

That is why this a warning and a sign of what might happen. This is not a sign of strength or remedy. It is a sign of worsening food security in the midst of continues battles from the state army. Peace.

Opinion: Francafrique is alive, as Paris axe Arikana Chihombori Quao!

Arikana Chihombori Quao, the African Union Ambassador to the United States, which was terminated on the 7th October 2019 after her open criticism of the Western Powers hold of the African Nation.

She’s been vocal and righteously so against the French hold of the former African colonies it has agreements with, military, monetary and direct trade enriching itself on the spoils of the African continent. Which is all true, that is why all the big-men from the previous colonies are favourable and steady visiting Paris and meeting the heads of state there. That is why, the interests of Paris comes before the needs of the citizens of the respective Republics. They are all Francafrique doing.

That is why Emmanuel Macron has no issues boosting dictators, standing by autocrats who secure the monetary gains of the Central African Francs (CFA). This is boosting the Reserves of France, they are earning on the printing and monetizing the currencies of these Republics. They are all in the hands of the French, controlling and monitoring the monetary policies and the economic policies made in the respective republics. This is how to keep the governments, either by the hook or by the crook.

Secondly, they are also kept by a military pact and a resource sharing agreements, which means the extraction industry of the French gets first deals, if it is Total or anything else. Will get a first rights to extract or be able to trade commodities. That is why you see in former North African Republic, which was colonizes you see Renaults, Citroen’s and so-on. You are not seeing so many American or British cars there, but French produced cars in abundant. That is because, the French still has a foothold and advantages, which the Republic have to abide too.

Therefore, what the axed and sacked AU Ambassador to US said about the French is true. It maybe hurt the pride of the French. But you don’t need to say anything substantial to hurt their pride. You can just dismiss their champagne and they will cry havoc. In addition, the French know they need Francafrique and they would miss out important market, funds and resources, which it cannot live without. The banks, the industries and military would suffer a hit. The French will not say this, but the reason for axing shows this.

The French is weak, the French isn’t as great or has the power to flex without its state under passive control through the measures of the CFA and other Post-Colonial agreements made with Big-Men in the Francafrique. That is just the way it is and because someone with a title said it. It had to be silenced.

However, if the French didn’t want it undressed or questioned their role on the continent. They should have maybe answered it with words or numbers. Instead, they are verifying her words by axing her and pushing the Chairman of AU to get rid of her. Peace.

Bachelet welcomes release of hundreds of political actors in Cameroon (08.10.2019)

The President had ordered the release of 333 persons arrested in the context of the conflict in the Northwest and Southwest regions.

GENEVA, Switzerland, October 8, 2019 – UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Michelle Bachelet on Tuesday welcomed the release of hundreds of political actors in Cameroon, among them opposition leader Maurice Kamto.

On 4 October, President Paul Biya announced the release of Kamto and more than a hundred of others detained in relation to the recent electoral process. The day before, the President had ordered the release of 333 persons arrested in the context of the conflict in the Northwest and Southwest regions. Prosecutors were instructed to drop charges against them.

“I hope that this decision taken by the Government opens the door to longer-term constructive dialogue that enables Cameroon to tackle the root causes and underlying grievances of significant elements of the population, who have been feeling excluded,” the UN Human Rights Chief said.

“I am very pleased to see that President Biya is acting on his commitment to look for solutions to the problems that have beset Cameroon in recent years,” Bachelet said. “During my visit to Yaoundé in May this year, we discussed the way forward to overcome the various human rights problems in the country, and we agreed that national dialogue and reconciliation were essential.”

The decision to release the political actors, reached in the context of a National Dialogue that took place last week, could contribute to political reconciliation, as well as creating a more inclusive environment for socio-economic development.

She also urged opposition parties and militant groups to join the authorities in its efforts towards reconciliation, and reiterated her Office’s willingness and availability to continue providing support to Cameroon.

“Cameroon has an opportunity to leave behind years of conflict and confrontation and enter a new era of peace and prosperity, where human rights are respected and protected, and we will do everything in our power to help make that become a reality,” she said. “There will, no doubt, be many difficulties along the road, but if the will to find solutions remains strong, and if the Government abides by its commitments, the country as a whole could and should benefit substantially.”

Opinion: The one-sided Grand National Dialogue comes with brief recommendations…

Let’s be clear, there is little to take from the Grand National Dialogue, which happen this week in Yaounde, Cameroon. Where the elite, the patronage had a massive display and speeches. But the other party was all behind bars or in exile. Not like the stakeholders of this dialogue got to talk. It was mostly of the President’s men. It doesn’t help and prove anything significant that the President pardons 333 detainees and Cameroon Renaissance Movement (CRM) get freed on the final day of the talks.

This is really showing, that the President did a PR show. Because, the report of the talks shows that the one-sided affairs. Not only with the recommendation, but also with their pleas. But they are putting the blame indirectly on the armed militants, but not on the military whose displaying an open direct war on the population. These are the who has the force, who makes villages and towns into ghost towns and been reported about. Still, the President and his men, fails to mention that in the report.

These include the Recommendation to;

Grant a special status to the North-West and South-West Regions, in conformity with Section 62 Sub 2 of the Constitution;

Take specific measures to ensure equality of English and French in ail aspects of national life;

Reinforce the autonomy of Decentralised Local Entities;

Improve upon the infrastructure of judicial services throughout the country;

Strengthen the Humanitarian Assistance Program to better serve internally displaced persons;

Institute a special plan to reconstruct the conflict affected areas;

Popularise the Head of State’s offer of amnesty to combatants who drop their weapons and enter the reintegration process; and,

Create a team responsible for mediation with radicalised members of our Diaspora” (REPORT OF THE RAPPORTEUR GENERAL OF THE MAJOR NATIONAL DIALOGUE, 04.10.2019).

This here proves the problem of the Grand National Dialogue, where the NW-SW regions are supposed to become special, but in what sense? What will the Ambazonia get or benefit after the years of military attacks, road-blocks and so-on? What will Yaounde and the Biya’s men do now differently?

Because, they have gone after the leadership of the NW-SW, the ones whose appointed or made-men from the President. The rest have been followed, detained or exiled. This has been systematic measures from the state. That is why, these people are still behind bars and their voice wasn’t listened too. That is why, the recommendations falls flat.

Not, that the ideas are faulty, but its just one stakeholder, one main power speaking. Even other movements and parties dropped out, because they felt it was farce. That says something about it all. Not only the ones already detained and silenced. The President wasn’t mentioning them. They are blaming the guns, the militias, but they are created, because the army is sent there to settle the score and making it worse. Combined with governors putting in curfews and strict movement regulations on the citizens there.

Therefore, from the get-go, the Grand National Dialogue was flawed. The outcomes shows that and that is why the Report is such a thin soup. Cooking a soup made by leaves and hope it taste beef. Peace.
