Somalia: Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation – Press Release (29.10.2024)

“The Three Heads of State underlined the imperative of adhering to the basic principles and pillars of international law as the indispensable basis for regional stability and cooperation: especially unequivocal respect for the sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity of the countries of the region; confronting interference in the internal affairs of the countries of the region under any pretext or justification; coordinating joint efforts to achieve regional stability; and creating a conducive climate for joint and sustainable development” (Ministry of Information, Eritrea – ‘Joint Statement of the Tripartite Summit (Unofficial Translation)’ 10.10.2024).
Yesterday’s Joint Communique and release from the Tripartite Summit in Asmara, Eritrea is telling. It is clear that the alliances are shifting and there is now a lack of trust between Asmara and Addis Ababa. The same goes in regard between Mogadishu and Addis Ababa. While we knew there was cold relations between Egypt and Ethiopia, as a result of the GERD.
Now, things are finalized and things are now in order. The Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, the FDRE is lacking diplomatic ties and connections on the Horn of Africa. That is a result of the years of hostility and brazen disregard for the neighbours in connection to the GERD and the dream of having a port by the Red Sea. Therefore, this has been an own creation of the Prime Minister of Ethiopia.
Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali is behind all of this. That’s why Eritrea is now in allies with the enemies of Ethiopia. Now it is clear that the friendly relations between Afewerki and Abiy is gone. Abiy didn’t follow upon the requests and the ideals of the war in the North. As the Eritrean President wanted to get rid of TPLF completely, but now it is still active because of the Cessation of Hostilities Agreement made in Pretoria, South Africa.
We will now see a more confident Somalia and Villa Somalia has now a co-operative agreement and a security arrangement, which strengthen it. That is in the interests of Somalia, but also their allies. Which means the threats and the belittling of Mogadishu from Addis Ababa has to cease. They now have more flair and has people they can depend on.
That’s more than Abiy can say. His now left alone. The former allies has ditched him and is now in ka-hoots with Egypt. That got to sting. The allies of the Northern War has now left him completely. His fighting Fano in the Amhara Region and now the Eritrean Weapons brothers has left him too. They have seen who Abiy is and cannot trust him.
That’s a real telling part here. That the warlord is losing allies he can trust. He hasn’t the ability to read the room and understand what people are looking for. Instead the interests of consolidating power and enriching himself has a cost. Now he can’t and isn’t in favour in Asmara. Neither is he feared or respected in Mogadishu. Both places… they have now said their “peace”.
This is the failure of Prime Minister Abiy. It just shows how his mind-games and how he operates just destroys everything around him. Sooner or later, he will tear other things apart too. Just so he can rule the ashes. That’s what he does… and it shows time and time again. Peace.

“Hassan Sheikh is not capable of fighting. He must first secure Mogadishu before he can even consider confronting us. He should first secure his seat” – Field Marshal Berhanu Jula, Chief of the General Staff of the Ethiopian National Defense Force (08.10.2024).
This here is a commentary by the neighbour that got to hurt the Pride of the Villa Somalia. The Federation of Somalia is already shaking and there are commonly trouble between leaders of the states and the federal leadership in Mogadishu. That’s why there are stalemates and discussions for the modalities ahead of polls and postponements of such too.
That the Field Marshal of Ethiopia says this now is interesting. As the foreign troops are deployed in Somalia and helping the Somali National Army (SNA). That is necessary because the Federation doesn’t have the capabilities or the strong enough army to combat or annihilate the Al-Shabaab. Therefore, the peacekeepers in co-ordination of SNA are in need to secure the safety of the nation.
It is really striking that an Army Commander of another Sovereign Neighbour is stating this. That must be humiliating to the Somali President. The Federation of Somalia and the lawmakers there. As someone can say this with arrogance and with entitlement too. He just says it like nothing during an interview.
President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud and his appointees should take a stance. They should show they have the guts and the ability to govern. Not just be mere token soldiers in the capital. Because that’s what the outsiders thinks. This is really a loss for the Republic and the Federation itself. Which is always into turmoil and prolonged discussions ahead of the polls. Therefore, we will see more of this coming, as states and leaders wants the upper-hand.
It is a powerful stance, but its not a new one. It just shows the power-dynamics between Addis Ababa and Mogadishu. When the ones in Ethiopia can speak like this and not fear any sort of retribution for saying so. That’s why HSM and his fellow allies got to show fierce force and be resilience, but at the same time reflect on the words spoken about them.
It is utter embarrassing, even if it is partly true. The peacekeepers and foreign troops wouldn’t be there if the Somali Army was strong enough to contain the rebels or the militias from taking control of own territories. That’s the bleak reality here and a loss of sovereign as a result too. As the Villa Somalia and the lawmakers are bound by the foreigners to keep their house in order. Which in the end… makes everything fragile and continue to plague the nation with instability.
HSM is in office for the second time and he should know this hurts. He should know that he has too boost confidence and prove his value. Especially, when the Ethiopian are already interfering and also taking sides in regards to Hargeisa, Somaliland. Therefore, something got to give… it got to give. That’s the truth here.
This isn’t a moment of gold, but of epic failure that has stagnated over time. Peace.

“Ethiopia has officially appointed Ambassador Taye Atske-Selassie as the country’s new President. The announcement came during the 4th-year opening ceremony of the 6th House of People’s Representatives and the 4th House of Federation joint session today” (Ethiopian Press Agency, 07.10.2024).
The demotion from being the Minister of Foreign Affairs to become the Ceremonial President has begun. Taye Atske-Selassie will be the silent partner and confidant of the Prime Minister of Ethiopia.
The ones that think Atske-Selassie will be a defiant or a man of honour is wrong. He will be there to serve his Prime Minister and his party. That’s why he was appointed and elected to the role of President.
He has gone from serving as an ambassador to become the Foreign Minister and now he has gotten a token office. That is what his getting and that because the PM knows what his getting.
Atske-Selassie wouldn’t be in the mix, if Abiy wasn’t sure that he had a loyal cadre on his side. The new President has praised most of the achievements and the government programs of Abiy. That will he continue to do, and he won’t budge.
As President he will accept the fate of war in the Amhara region. He won’t stop or be in the way of conflicts elsewhere on the Horn of Africa. As we have seen him openly defend and be a voice of the Federal Republic in regards to the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Somaliland. Therefore, Abiy has an ally and a man that will carry his water in this man.
This is man that serves one purpose and one purpose only. That’s to be there and be the man that supports the Prime Minister. It don’t matter what he does or how he operates. This President will be the spokesperson and the figurehead of that government. He will be there for the glory and the prestige, but he won’t have a say.
Abiy has now his puppet and he will dance when the Prime Minister says so. Peace.
