A look into Bobi Wine’s Speech on the Kawempe North By-Election

We saw an election where almost all media houses recalled their staff from the field a few hours after voting had started, just to keep them safe from those who claimed they were securing the election. We saw an election where the main candidate’s nomination papers were seized by security operatives just hours before nomination; his supporters and mobilizers beaten and arrested; and his communication devices seized just hours before voting. Several of our comrades were beaten and imprisoned just for supporting our candidate. Many others are in hospital fighting for their life” (Bobi Wine, 17.03.2025).

Today the victor of the Kawempe North By-Election spoke to his own at the National Unity Platform (NUP) headquarters. As the aftermath of the By-Election is appearing and the spin of the loss for the regime and their party, the National Resistance Movement (NRM). The NRM are already working tirelessly and so is the President too. That has been shown and that’s why I have to reflect on the words of Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi who leads the biggest opposition party and was the party who retained the seat of Kawempe North.

When you read the speech of Bobi Wine. It is another type of play than Museveni. It just shows the difference of character and leadership. Just the way of navigating it and representing. That seems so natural for Bobi Wine. Meanwhile, Museveni is forcing himself and his ways on others.

I truly congratulate you Counsel Nalukoola for beating the seemingly impossible odds to sit amongst us here today as a Member of Parliament-elect. You were not declared winner because the regime wanted to. You were declared winner because the elaborate measures the people of Kawempe North took to protect their vote left the regime with no other alternative” (Bobi Wine, 17.03.2025).

This here isn’t a new story and Bobi Wine lived through the same thing when he got elected in Kyadondo East. He knows how the games is played and how you have to fight to keep it. There is nothing given in the Republic and especially not elected seas. The contested seats that the NRM wants to win and have control over. That’s why it is a battle and is such a mess to begin with, as the stakes are so high and the willingness of using force is very eminent of the state. Therefore, the prices of doing is costly and that’s proven again. So many lives has been scorned so one man could become an MP.

Dictator Museveni has since released a statement seeking to undermine the legitimacy of our victory and deflect blame for the criminality he unleashed on citizens in Kawempe” (…) “He accuses us of ballot-stuffing, voter intimidation, and results-tampering. But there is abundant video evidence showing his ministers accompanied by masked goons protected by gunmen engaging in this criminality. The destruction of ballot boxes in Kazo-Angola and other areas was not the work of the opposition—it was orchestrated by regime operatives to create a pretext for rejecting the otherwise legitimate results from an election they simply couldn’t win!” (Bobi Wine, 17.03.2025).

The projection of NRM and Museveni towards the NUP is just bonkers. The viral footage and pictures tells stories that Museveni cannot lie about. Neither can the NRM downplay or think people will forget. It is just really amazing after all these years and plenty of By-Elections. That the NRM and Museveni think people haven’t seen their game before and how it appears. This is their modus operandi and what they does. Kawempe North was no exception, but more of the norm, actually. This is who the NRM is in 2025 and what it has become. Bobi Wine and NUP is just exposing it, and showing it to the world to see.

To the people of Uganda, let what happened in Kawempe North strengthen our resolve to fight for a better country. Let it remind us that despite the small wins along the way, our struggle for freedom and good governance is far from over. We must keep organizing, mobilizing, and resisting.

We must emulate the people of Kawempe North who have showed us what a PROTEST VOTE means and requires us to do. They united, voted, and guarded their vote. If we replicate their example across other parts of the country, we can beat the dictator at his own game! Freedom is in sight!” (Bobi Wine, 17.03.2025).

The victory of Kawempe North By-Election is a nice one for the NUP. Even if it is a seat and a place that has turned into a stronghold of the opposition. There is a long time since a NRM representative was in place from there. Therefore, it must be with a little hesitation to celebrate to fast too.

The NRM wanted to take it and look strong ahead of 2026. The President wanted to have the final straw and build some sort of momentum before the polls. Meanwhile we know he campaigns with the PDM as his vehicle to do so. Just like he did with OWC and Emyooga in the past. Using government programs as an excuse to canvas voters and hold rallies. This game has been played before and people should watch it.

The NUP cannot do the same and neither can any other serious competitor of the NRM. The authorities won’t allow it or accept it. As that doesn’t fit their plan and their majority rule. It cannot see the growth or see a potential of galvanized support of an opposition leader or party. No that has to be stifled and suppressed. That’s why Bobi Wine cannot rest or be in good vibes for too long. There is to much hurt, pain and suffering ahead of 2026. We saw it in the By-Election and there will be plenty more in the General Elections in 2026. That is just bound to happen, whether we like it or not.

The protest vote of Kawempe is beautiful and poetic in defiance of the state. Now the whole Republic has to do the same. If that happens. Then there is nowhere Museveni or his NRM can go. Until then, freedom is far from visible and is far from hope of another tomorrow. Because right now, we are just waking up to another day of the Yellow Brigade singing their songs of glory and praising the sacrifices of Luweero. Peace.

South Sudan: Nasir County is burning

The assassination of General David Majur Dak has consequences, the assassination of him on the 7th March 2025 has now severe retaliation. The Naath White Army killing the General and showing fierce force is now answered. That was a signal of war and not single skirmishes.

This let the J1 get the word of the affair and handled things differently. That’s when President Salva Kiir Mayardit went to allies and friends in Kampala for help. Juba getting the Uganda People’s Defence Force (UPDF) to step into the battlefield and answer on behalf of the South Sudan People’s Defence Force (SSPDF). As there was army commanders of the SSPDF and others who didn’t want to get deployed to the Upper Nile State and retaliate against it.

Now we see the reasons for it, as the Nasir County is burning. The chemical weaponry and the usage of inflammable bombs that burns the villages and people. There is estimation of 20 people dying because of the bombs. The Antonovs are flying in the sky and dropping these lethal weapons on them. As the Naath White Army doesn’t have a counter-attack or any ability to fight against on land. The advanced and aerial superiority is giving the forces in support of J1 all the benefits, but it isn’t able to target specific ones or even directly at the ones who could be culprits of assassination. No, this is making everyone a target and making sure the whoever resides there suffer.

Today the Warlords of the Republic is giddy. The grievances and lack of process or due diligence doesn’t matters. The bombs and mercenaries on behalf of the government are answering the pleas of the President. The J1 is willing to bomb his own citizens and do so to settle the score. This is revenging and letting anyone know that his willing to kill them all. If they step out of line and tries to challenge it. That is what is happening here.

The SPLM and the Transitional Government could have responded in different manner. It could have tried to mediate and even get foreign envoys to interfere. To see if there was any way the Naath White Army could speak and listen to their rebellion. Now the whole rebellion and the whole areas is hit as a fact. That is just signalling to the citizens and the ones whose fighting in the Naath White Army that the central government, the government that represents them has abounded them and is willing to kill them all.

The UPDF is just following orders and are doing their mission. They are the “silent guardians” who are bombing and intends to do the bidding of Kiir. That’s because the President and his government cannot handle this alone. They need foreign proxies to partake and do the merciless acts of killing own civilians. Just to ensure the demise and total annihilation of the Naath White Army. That’s why Nasir County is burning.

J1 doesn’t want to listen or wondered why the rebellion started at all. No, he rather go to war and issue more conflict. That is the works of a Warlord and not an elderly statesman. It just shows who Kiir is and who his aligned with. He rather have the call of Kampala, than trying to negotiate or talk to the ones that took to arms. Because the Youth of Upper Nile State knows there is no other channels to get the message across to Kiir. Kiir only listens to bullets and violence. If it isn’t that. He will just eat and enjoy the spoils of office.

We are now seeing Nasir County burning… this fire is only starting. There is more lives at stake, but we know the J1 won’t mourn them. No, the J1 will only be resolute when the Naath White Army is demilitarized and is leaving their weapons behind. However, if they do so… then they will suffer again and this time there will only be ashes. As we see today.

As the Antonov planes are hovering in the sky and dropping their lethal loads on unarmed civilians. That’s where the Republic is and this is how the liberators pays the citizens back. Peace.

Opinion: Pilato’s blunder is Fatshi’s blessing

Felix spent many years in Belgium. He was a taxi driver….but even with a very bad reputation. The man, an old man now, who employed him was an Italian family who owned a pizza shop, and Felix used to deliver. So, when this old man heard that Felix had become president, he said, oh my God, this one” – Paul Kagame (12.03.2025).

It is like President Paul Kagame has forgotten the old days and think his wiser than everyone else. The ringleader of Kigali, the man whose words are law and who can order someone’s demise. That man think his above it all and can speak whatever that he deems fit. This week his just showing his entitlement and arrogance towards the leader and the President of the Democratic Republic of Congo, Felix Tshisekedi.

In this moment and time, it is natural that there are tensions and mistrust between the Presidents. That is all fair and game, as the conflict and the continued spoils of war is appearing. This is why the President’s needs to speak out and further their cause. We know Kagame wants a clean and splendid image. As he cannot even have cartoonist mocking him from within. Neither can there be any satire or anything resembling of indiscipline in Kigali. Therefore, he needs all hands on deck and possibly more than 98% approval rating at any given second.

By the way, I don’t mind how he became president. He was not elected either time. The first time, Joseph [Kabila] handed power over to him—there’s no question about that. The second time, he simply declared himself the winner, and everyone was told to keep quiet. But that’s not my problem” (Kagame, 12.03.2025).

I understand that Kagame is feeling the pressure, a pinch dash of backlash and also being stifled from outsiders. That is all natural, as the West and others are backing away from him. As they see him for what he is and a Warlord he is. Just that he thought the “Visit Rwanda” on Arsenal Jerseys and other entities would be cute marketing for him. However, that doesn’t save him from his bullets or his misuse of power to loot the DRC. We know the gig and that isn’t over with just yet.

That’s why his doing this folly. Yes, Felix Tshisekedi is far from perfect. Heck, the allegations of the first and the second election are true. Kagame is just the wrong messenger, as his elections are predetermined and he arrests or get rid of the ones who stands in his way. Not like the elections under his reign has been free or fair. No, we know how Kigali does it and he cannot act like we don’t know. Please, Mr. 98% are you aiming for 99% next time?

Kagame should fact check the records and the work history of Tshisekedi. Because his just talking high and mighty, and entitled as such. A former Intelligence Officer and a man who was known for being cold and calculated should know as much. Regardless, we see that this is haunting him. That’s why he goes on a personal attack.

If Kagame wanted us to believe he had good intentions. Well, this interview proves how his not and what his really about. He never intends and never wants to be diplomatic with Kinshasa. No, he just wants to mock and undermine. Because he knows his soldiers and his coordinated efforts are giving him results. That’s why he dares to speak this way.

Kagame wouldn’t have done so, if the conflict was going against him or the ones who fights as his proxy. No, he wouldn’t have sounded differently and would have been more humble. As he knows what is going on and therefore, he can play these silly games. Peace.
