“It is time for the Transitional Government of South Sudan to stop taking advantage of the United States. Enforcing our nation’s immigration laws is critically important to the national security and public safety of the United States. Every country must accept the return of its citizens in a timely manner when another country, including the United States, seeks to remove them. As South Sudan’s transitional government has failed to fully respect this principle, effective immediately, the United States Department of State is taking actions to revoke all visas held by South Sudanese passport holders and prevent further issuance to prevent entry into the United States by South Sudanese passport holders. We will be prepared to review these actions when South Sudan is in full cooperation” (U.S. Department of State – Marco Rubio – ‘Defending America’s Security through Visa and Travel Restrictions on South Sudan’ 05.04.2025).
There is a new dawn, and everyone should be aware of the leadership of the United States of America. There is no middle ground or any sort of critical thinking in the USA at the moment. Only blind loyalty to their Head of State and his wanted policies.
This new directive or decision of Secretary of State Marco Rubio will ensure that the families, the students and anyone with a visa in the USA are in trouble. That’s because some South Sudanese citizens have been to long and prolonged their stay without proper visa. These haven’t been returned, so now everyone is collectively punished for it.
Rubio should have his ears to Juba and get connected with the authorities there. As the Transitional Government are busy with other internal squabble, direct warfare and crisis, which are possibly destroying the sort of temporary stability that has been there for a little bit. The fragile peace and lack of implementation of the R-ARCSS. That’s something that should concern Washington D.C. as they supported and aided the R-TGoNU for years. They have been behind it and gave it credibility for the independence. Therefore, it is time to acknowledge this…
However, Rubio is forgetting this and doesn’t care. As the sending these South Sudanese or Junubin back to South Sudan is beneficial for him politically. They are winning the MAGA base with this and looking like it is doing as promised. It is stopping mass-migration and stopping “illegals” but most of these are legal and just have overstayed. The South Sudan government has just failed to facilitate and be in coordination with the State Department to get them returned. Nevertheless, they should be helped with UN Organizations and such, as there is a big need for multi-national organization to ensure due process over it.
The ones that was a problem and didn’t adhere to laws surrounding their visas should be sent back. As a sovereign that’s all fine and dandy but doing it to everyone and any eligible for other visas just shows another sign too. The U.S. is now vilifying the Junubin and they aren’t allowed for now to enter the U.S. That’s the message here and other nations should hear this, as they could easily get the same treatment. If the states aren’t able or have the capacity to ensure the return of their citizens. Peace.
