Burundi: The CNDD-FDD has re-instated the “one-party” state again

“The ruling party has won all the seats in the lower house of parliament. According to the provisional results announced on June 11, 2025 by the Ceni, the CNDD-FDD won the legislative elections of June 5, 2025 with 96.51% of the votes” (Shikiriza Burundi, 12.06.2025).

The legends of Uprona are now revived with CNDD-FDD. This legislative election done on the 5th June 2025 have just proved the goal and the CNDD-FDD succeeded. They have ensured itself the majority and total control. The other opposition parties are just side-pieces or non-existent.

In the Parliament the CNDD-FDD have all the Members of Parliament. In local government they have such a majority that the other parties are only having small fringe representation, which is cleverly pointless.

The authorities are allowing violence against opposition leaders, activists and silencing them. They go after the ones who didn’t vote for the CNDD-FDD. There are reports of Imbonerakure and other affiliates who are using violence and state sponsored brutality to target the dissidents. Therefore, the CNDD-FDD is just showing what it is.

The ones believing things will be better. They are wrong. The violence and brutality is normalized by the authorities. The state actions towards dissidents and the falling outs of its own. They are endangered, detained, tortured and possibly killed. The lucky ones are able to run into exile or seek asylum. That’s how the Republic is run, and it shows.

This election just show how cynical and how dire things are. Not like the CNDD-FDD cares or are concerned. No, they are just using force and violence to stay in office. They don’t mind and they are getting political capital doing so. Therefore, the 5th June polls just prove how far the state is willing to go to get “legitimacy” after forcing people to vote for itself.

This here isn’t it and the CNDD-FDD should be worried. They are creating a nation of oppressed people. They are creating a tense and uncertain atmosphere. As people cannot trust the authorities or the state, as it is only a tool for the ruling elite and the ones who are connected to weaponry.

The CNDD-FDD is making itself a “One-Party” State and doing it by default. As it squeezes everyone else out. They are doing it by every trick in the book. The few representatives in local government will be crushed too. They are only there for the books, but their voice will be meaningless.

The CNDD-FDD has finalized the run to become a “One-Party” state too. That’s what they have worked for, and the people has to suffer as a consequence of it. Peace.

Burundi: Declaration de la Coalition Burundi Bwa Bose suite aux Elections Legalislatives et Communales du 5 Juin 2025 (11.06.2025)

Dr. Kizza Besigye returned to the Nakawa Court [after being behind bars for 209 days on the 12th June 2025 without a proper trial or due process]

“The case of Dr. Kizza Besigye and Hajji Obeid Lutale has been adjourned to June 26, 2025, for a ruling on whether Magistrate Christine Nantege will recuse herself. Besigye and Lutale have petitioned the Judicial Service Commission, accusing Nantege of incompetence and bias in their treason trial. They claim she mishandled their case, including refusing bail after 180 days on remand and allowing disruptions in court” (NTV Uganda, 12.06.2025).

The authorities and state have now kept Dr. Kizza Besigye behind bars over 209 days. With today’s order or adjourned trial will make it a total of 223 on the 26th of June 2025. This is political prosecution and retaliation against Besigye for standing up for his belief. That’s why his behind bars and isn’t allowed liberty or personal freedom for that matter.

Dr. Kizza Besigye is a target. That’s the gist of it all. They have him there because they can and they are weaponizing the courts to keep him detained. These people haven’t proved any evidence, witnesses or proof of any criminal conspiracy. They are just using the trials and the courts to keep him behind bars. Therefore, the ones believing in the cases against him is naïve.

There has never been anything substantial delivered or proven in the chambers of law. Neither has the state produced anything else than charges and supposed plots of criminal conspiracy. Nevertheless, there aren’t anything shown or proved. These courts are just addressing hearsay and charges over nonsense proceedings. Whereas the attorneys for Besigye and associates can easily become implicated or blocked from attending too. Therefore, the state is just proving how they are mocking rule of law. Just so they can keep Besigye captured.

That’s the gist of it. This is impunity and injustice served, again and again. The state never stops and Besigye is paying the price. He is the victim that is penalized and the state haven’t proved a single thing. The only thing it has is a vocal defence of its actions in the likes Andrew Mwenda. Even if Mwenda hasn’t proved anything either. Just screaming or talking loud on TV. That is just hearsay, but here we are.

Meanwhile, the state plans to keep Besigye behind bars for 223 days and it doesn’t care. They are just happy they have detained Besigye this long. We can wonder when he is properly released, because the state isn’t creating a proper case or a trial. If they did… they would have done so long… a long time ago. Peace.

Ethiopia: Press Statement from the Caucus of Opposition Parties on the National Dialogue Process and the Upcoming Election – Break the Entangling Chain (09.06.2025)

The Caucus of Ethiopian Opposition Parties (the “Caucus”) was established with the understanding that the National Dialogue Commission (NDC) Establishment Proclamation disregarded crucial amendments and questions raised by the Joint Council of Ethiopian Political Parties. Furthermore, the appointment of NDC commissioners was not in accordance with the spirit of the proclamation itself, but rather based solely on the will and discretion of the Prime Minister. Consequently, it was deemed that the NDC would face significant challenges in executing its profound responsibilities with legality, integrity, independence, neutrality, and impartiality, consistent with its national mandate. Hence, the Caucus called for a re-evaluation of both the proclamation and the very formation of the Commission.

Indeed, the NDC’s activities and performance since its inception have consistently validated the concerns raised by the Caucus. Instead of engaging with the Caucus’s proposed solutions, the Commission has treated it as an adversary, systematically marginalizing it. The NDC has consistently refused to respond to the Caucus’s various statements and inquiries over time. This exclusionary approach has continued, culminating in the NDC failing to even complete its agenda-setting within the initial timeframe, necessitating a one-year extension to its mandate.

Despite the additional time granted to fulfill tasks it failed to accomplish over the past three years, the Commission has shown no inclination to deviate from its erroneous, exclusionary, and partisan modus operandi. It has demonstrated no willingness to address the Caucus’s questions or accommodate its alternative proposals. Even after one of its commissioners resigned, the NDC continues to operate with a self-congratulatory air, pressing forward undeterred.

Furthermore, the National Electoral Board of Ethiopia (NEBE), another key democratic institution, is reportedly preparing for the 7th general election next year, indicating that it is on the verge of replacing three (60%) of its existing leadership. Ethiopia’s electoral history, with the notable exception of the 2005 general election, has provided neither opposition parties nor the electorate with any reason to anticipate elections with genuine enthusiasm. The NEBE’s partisanship, its subservience to the ruling party, and the ruling party’s predetermined victory are well-established patterns. When this historical practice is coupled with the current political instability, pervasive conflict and war, a complex and multifaceted reality, and new regional administrative structures, it is not difficult for an impartial observer to foresee the profound complications and consequences that will follow the election.

Therefore, the Caucus unequivocally states that, given these stark realities, there are no conducive conditions for the NEBE to conduct a free and impartial election. Moreover, observing the ruling party’s readily apparent and habitual inclination to engage in electoral fraud and leverage state apparatuses, including defense, security, and police forces, we find the situation deeply concerning and alarming, posing a significant risk of plunging the nation into further danger and chaos.

Nevertheless, it is evident to any unbiased, impartial, and conscientious observer, based on discussions in forums organized by the Commission itself, that the number of political parties and various segments of society who share the Caucus’s concerns and positions is steadily growing. The core problem lies in our nation’s entrenched culture of conspiracy and deceit, which has consistently driven our nation into deeper crises, and is often mistakenly considered as political wisdom or sagacity.

Another critical issue is the failure to dismantle the “entangling chain” that binds so-called independent and democratic institutions to the ruling government, transforming them into mere conduits for its agenda. This perpetuates a system where these institutions seek to extract benefits from the process, a desire the ruling party readily accommodates and exploits to its own advantage. However, the ultimate outcome of this approach is national instability, exacerbated civil conflict and war, political turmoil, economic decline, and deepening social crisis. Such a trajectory offers no lasting benefit, not even for the ruling party, let alone the nation and its people.

Therefore, to extricate our nation from this perilous path that leads from bad to worse, the Caucus issues a fervent call: “Let us break free from the customary entangling chain and shatter the cycle of subservience!”

To this end, we call upon all stakeholders – including the electorate, human rights and democracy advocates, the media, non-governmental organizations, and friendly nations – to actively monitor this situation and stand in solidarity with the Ethiopian people to prevent our deepest fears from materializing.

The story of Albert Omondi Ojwang: A murder in plain sight

The fatal story of Albert Omondi Ojwang is just becoming worse by the hour. The authorities, the state and the cover-up aren’t even that clever. The citizen was apprehended and died in custody.

The Police and the Authorities doesn’t want the truth out. The way they picked him up and treated him in custody. They allowed it to be his final days. Neither is the derogatory social media posts ever unleashed either. The state has waited and the so has the investigation into it too.

They first downplayed it all. When the autopsy was published online. It just showed what sort of violence and trauma he went through. Someone did that on him and it was fatal. The actions of the law enforcement were lethal. We don’t who did what, but they were all part of law enforcement in the Republic. They are the ones that arrested him, transported him, jaded the CCTV tapes of the Central Police Station and tried to silence the public from knowing about the murder within their premises.

They took the man from Homa Bay and kept him in custody in Nairobi. That was done to a teacher, a father and a husband. We know this isn’t about soda’s, water or biscuits. No, this is about the cover-up and changing stories. How the statements of the Police have been and what the authorities have said about the matter. Every part of the unleashing information only shows how they tried to hide it all.

This is just showing what sort of business the state is operating under. The Police and the Authorities think they are above the accountability and transparency. Neither is the state or the government open to show their true character.

The people can be taken into custody by officers in unmarked cars and be tortured, into such a manner that the person dies in a police cell. Citizens can easily be extra judicially killed. That’s the reality here that the officers can be the judge, jury and executioners. This is the sad reality here…

Albert Omondi Ojwang deserves justice. His not alone, but the latest victim of state brutality and impunity. The state ordered it, and a life was taken. That’s the gist here.

The rest is a cover-up and concealing the truth. There so many involved not telling the truth. So many people trying to forge a narrative or change perception. Meanwhile, the individual is still deceased. The one that died without due process and due diligence was Albert Omondi Ojwang.

He didn’t deserve to die. This shows… what is wrong with society and wrong with the authorities. When they can act in this manner and think they can get away with it. A life should matter, but the Police and the Authorities proves they don’t value it at all. That’s why it was so easy for them to do this and trying to find ways to make it go away. Instead for ever hour… and every revelation. The sinister plot is unravelling, and people should be held in contempt. People should be resigning and people should be charged. Not just a small fry officer, but high-ranking officials must jump on the sword over this one. They allowed it to happen and acted like nothing.

That’s what is concerning here. Peace.
