Opinion: Ruto wants to set the standard

“We cannot hand over to people with no plan. All they keep saying is ‘Ruto must go.’ They have no agenda. They have no plan to do anything” – President William Ruto (15.06.2025)

This is telling and compelling of the broad-based government and current President William Ruto. That he wants to pull the strings and prolong his legacy. He is speaking to his critics, but he isn’t addressing his shortcomings.

As President he is using the authorities and the state as his own fiefdom. He is trying to compel himself into a statemen, but his busier scheming and ensuring his seat is continuously profitable.

The impunity and use of law enforcement against civilians aren’t making things better. Neither is it that the Cabinet Secretaries are telling the citizens how to react and how to manage their anger. Just like the people aren’t supposed to challenge or keep the government accountable. That’s how things seem and we can all see it.

Maybe the current Deputy President have to pray more for his master. DP Kindiki needs to spell out the rosary and be more faithful in his sermons. Because the President cannot tell who comes after and what the opposition stands for. They have to be the opposite of this and what the government does. Especially, when the state doesn’t value life and easily kidnaps the dissidents. Therefore, things aren’t getting better, but only worse under Ruto.

He says the opposition have no plan, but he refers to the former DP and others. Not like Kalonzo has any plans. We know the likes of Kalonzo is only looking for relevance and dancing as a populist. There is hard to find someone who’s really pushing Ruto anywhere. They are all loudmouth but needs a bigger platform. Odinga is already in bed and his part of it by default with CS from ODM in government. Therefore, we know Raila won’t push Ruto anywhere.

Ruto cannot decide the fate of the next or who comes after him. We know he will ensure a second term and won’t relent. He will use force and use the state machinery to get re-elected. Ruto will hire a Cambridge Analytica to win over the public too. That’s who Ruto is, and he don’t mind being devious or using intimidation to “win”. This is who Ruto is, and we can see the wheelbarrow has bloodstains on it.

It’s not shocking that this is happening, but it is a warning. The big man wants to signal his staying and not allowing any random person to takeover from him. That is a sign of the times. He won’t relent or be easy. No, he will use everything at his disposal and we all should reckon that. Peace.
