“Life is a storm, my young friend. You will bask in the sunlight one moment, be shattered on the rocks the next. What makes you a man is what you do when that storm comes.” – Alexandre Dumas
Today, it is now revealed, that the Senate has written a letter, where they have formally suspended their relations with the Lower House. This is yet another step-back, as the politicians are internally conflicted. This is happening as Federal Government of Somalia, Villa Somalia and the Prime Minister are squabbling with the United Nations Mission in Somalia (UNSOM). The aftermath of the actions done in December 2018 is really paying off.
The FGS and Villa Somalia are really playing high stakes putting the UN Representative for Somalia as Person Non-Grata. They are now seeing the Member States and Somaliland distancing themselves again with the FGS/Villa Somalia. As that is happening, now the Senate and Lower House have distanced themselves. It is surely some back-room play.
Just like it was with the rounds of impeachment of the President Farmaajo and later it wasn’t. This is again another political game made by the politicians. Who knows for what reasons, if they are all playing for the guards, as they are reacting because of the UN representative. If not, it is because they want to show independence and being sovereign. However, the funding of the FGS and Member States are happening mostly from abroad. Meaning, the relationship with UN and UNSOM is vital, as they are paying salaries and funding government projects.
We are seeing more and more internal squabble, where both Member States, Somaliland, now the Chambers of Parliament is also creating an issue. That the Senate have suspended their operations and work together with the Lower House. These actions are happening within a span of 48 hours.
There is yet another dispute, another layer of trouble. Clearly, the Villa Somalia have to clear the air, if they are having proper leadership. As the fragile ways of today and yesterday, is not showing greatness, but more weakness. The President and Prime Minister has react and show strength. They have to take responsibility and finds way to narrow the differences. That they care about the situation and explain it. Because right now, the FGS, Villa Somalia and all parties looks like whirlwind. Peace.

You would think that the Office of the Prime Minister, who is in-charge of the Refugees in Uganda, would trade the waters carefully, after the last year scandal of thousands upon thousands of ghost refugees. Which the OPM and the state was cashing in on. No, no, no, they are having yet another scheme, as the government are planning to misuse the refugee crisis in the neighbour countries to their advantage. The National Resistance Movement (NRM) have no trouble doing so.
The Prime Minister Dr. Rugunda Ruhakana has clearly not lost the touch of deception or lying to the International Community for a buck. Here is yet another scheme made up to make the numbers sky-rocket!
“More than 1000 Ugandans living in areas neighbouring Kyangwali refugee settlement were forced to attain refugee status in order to retain ‘ownership’ of their land. The scheme was reportedly crafted by Charles Bafaki, the principal resettlement officer in the Office of the Prime Minister (OPM), Jolly Kebirungi, the camp commandant Kyangwali refugee settlement area, in the newly created Kikuube district and Lutaaya Vianney from ministry of Lands” (URN – ‘OPM forced Ugandans to register as refugees in Kyangwali’ 02.01.2019, link:https://observer.ug/news/headlines/59562-opm-officials-forced-ugandans-to-register-as-refugees-in-kyangwali).
With this in mind, the government are putting lives in jeopardy, making the citizens play as refugees, and not being citizens themselves. Supposed to seek refugee in a camp instead of living their ordinary life. This in a way to get higher numbers of refugees and more need of aid to take care of them. If this isn’t misusing resources and also reckless behaviour against own citizens. Nothing is. This is what Steady Progress means in the NRM land.
The OPM are already known for inflating numbers, but now they cheating also by making Ugandan citizens into refugees. That is really ensuring the UNHCR and all agencies for fools. As the GoU and OPM have no trouble risking their own citizens as pawns in a scheme to secure funding. While, also using this scheme to scare locals of losing their land, if they didn’t play along. That is how far they take it.
No mercy, no problems ensuring suffering for people, as long as the OPM secures more funds to itself. Peace.

“All the darkness in the world cannot extinguish the light of a single candle.” – St. Francis Of Assisi
When the tallying is done in darkness, when the government are telling the world. Don’t tell us how to do this, but the same government asked again and again for funding to this. They are deliberate in their actions. That Minister Lambert Mende is attacking the foreign media, isn’t strengthening the belief of just count of the ballots. As the days after the polls. As CENI pushed the counting from 2nd January to 6th January for the Preliminary Results. Clearly, a message that the Electoral Commission is busy cooking.
They are over the stove cooking the numbers, so they seem real. As the Internet is blocked for days now and the SMS Services too. They are clearly doing this to stop the transparency of the counting operation. CENI doesn’t want to be questioned and neither the ones in-charge in Kinshasa.
We know something is weird too, when one of the running, the supposed heir, Emmanuel Shadri is promising to not take the Presidential Palace, but rule from the Prime Minister’s Mansion in Kinshasa. If that isn’t a weird, nothing is. As AU EOM and SADC EOM is saying it was smooth. So, they have sort of validated the process. In a way, that the International Community needs. Therefore, recent events shows the dire need for change.
The polls, the ballots are just a show, a mere facade, as the reality is happen afterwards. As CENI is stalling the process. Just like Kabila postponement of it since his term ended. They have pushed and now trying to seal the fate, so that anyone will not question the truth. Mende is busy shielding his associates. CENI is busy finding ways to look credible. While we all know their deal. They are there to serve the heir of Kabila, the man who will continue and let Kabila work in the murky shadow. That is why the President of today, can live in the Presidential Palace, also tomorrow.
We can wonder, if the FCC or the Kabila regiment are thinking of how this looks like. If they think they look smart. They don’t, if they think they can count in darkness and in silence. They are wrong. If they first want to be totally sovereign in this matter, the CENI shouldn’t need foreign funding for their operations, secondly the government shouldn’t need direct donor aid. However, it does and therefore, the state should be less reckless. They should be more diplomatic and think of their actions.
This makes them looks small. This makes them look stupid. CENI, Kabila, Shadari, Mende and all of the people in the inner-circle, are not moving wisely. They are instead, making smoke and we are just awaiting fire. Peace.

The ones who knows me, knows how I follow elections and the stakes at any election. I will follow and see the campaigns, the political framework and the polls itself. This is seeing how all stakeholders, all parties and state institutions hopefully goes in harmony. They are all working for separate goals, but still for a common goal to get the proper representation within the National Assembly, the Parliament or the highest office, Prime Minister/President. However, that might be.
That is why I look up to election and follow them. Because the elections, usually show the dire truth, the reality of how people and how the leadership handles its people. How, the state and how the parties are addressing each other. The real is coming out. You cannot fake the actions and have just one instance of impartiality over the months of campaigns before any polls. You just cannot muster that fakeness. No one has that ability. That is why I follow elections, to see and to know the leaders, the ideals and the prospects of reigniting the leadership or renewal of it.
With this in mind, with the years from 2015 until the fresh start of 2019. I have follow directly enough. To ask, does the foreign and multi-national Election Observation Missions (EOM) still have relevance in out time?
Yes, if it is rubber-stamping and accepting fraudulent polls, they does that properly. They are saying it is some misgivings. The votes was peaceful, the ques at the polling stations was showing public interest for the votes, but there are legal questions and problematic attachment of the Electoral Commissions or Electoral Bodies. Which has to addressed at a further date, to ensure impartial activity or independent acts of the ones responsible of the counting and announcing the results.
However, that sort of activity from an EOM gets old. Get old really quick. As the Foreign Envoys and the Ambassadors are acting as stepping stones, instead of aliens with a free mind. They are acting as Noble’s of the elites and accepting the inevitable. They are together with the EOM just ensuring the frauds happening. They are looking and seeing, but at the same distancing themselves. Not taking action or really saying the truth.
That is why the EOMs are losing value. They are coming as tourists, who just write long reports. Showing some misgivings, but not really telling the reality. They are condemning some default problems, coming with recommendations to the government. However, lots of times, there is no follow up or no acts of the donors who pays for these EOMs to be there even. Therefore, the value of the aftermath, isn’t even there. If there is no legal reform or electoral laws change after the recommended statements. Than, their visit and popping by the polls is totally pointless. Unless, they are just there as a gift of legitimacy. Surely, that is the only thing they give.
They are giving no bounds of questions or even trying to prove, if there are any problems within the polls. Surely, it must be mandate of the missions, the operations and the lack of resources. If not, the respect of the sovereign nations. That is fine and dandy, but if there is there to observe and state, what so many are seeing elsewhere. When, the evident of a rigged elections, why not say it publicly?
That is why I don’t see them as relevant. When the public are saying the votes are rigged, the local media are saying it, but the EOM says its with misgivings and needs some electoral reforms. That is when I see a red-flag.
So, maybe it is time to stop funding these operations. Unless, the partners have an objective, to keep dictators, their fraudulent elections sensitized and ensure legitimacy for their man/party in-charge, yet another term. Peace.

The Ethiopian People’s Revolutionary Defence Force (EPRDF), the Council of Ministers and the Parliament should intervene and find solution together with Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali. As the reformist of the Oromo Democratic Party and the other parties in the coalition government in the EPRDF.
The Prime Minister whose known for being a reformist and a game-changer. If he really is it. There has not been less of ethnic violence or even use of force against civilians since he took the reign. The stint with the PM hasn’t changed it. Here is three recent reports from Afar, Ogaden and Oromia. All of them shows the issues within the Republic.
Reports from Afar Region:
“Afar forum condemns the well-coordinated and planned attack against civilian Afars by Issa-Somalis in the Afar region of Ethiopia. The Issa-Somalis tribe waging a coordinated and well planned attack since December 25,2018 in Qunxafaoqo, Gadamaytu, and Qadaytu the illegal settlements killing several civilians and police forces. Reports that reaches us now also indicates that the Issa-Somalis are also attacking the federal army who come to stop the senseless bloodshed. It is report that several people lost their lives from both sides” (Afar Forum Executive Committee, 30.12.20118).
While Halgan Media reported on the Ogaden region:
“On the early hours of Wednesday December 12th heavy artillery rained down on the city of Moyaale in Ogaden, as Ethiopian Govt backed Oromo paramilitaries stormed the border town. A vicious onslaught besieged the town as Oromo paramilitary forces went door to door gunning down Somali civilians and maiming women and children in broad daylight. Smoke was billowing through the sky as hundreds of homes and shops where burned down. A total of 15 civilians where killed with over 60 wounded. The wounded survivors where treated in makeshift clinics in alleyways. Oromo paramilitary militias and armed Oromo factions continue to launch cross border raids indiscriminately targeting Somali inhabited towns on the Ogaden-Oromo border region” (Halgan Media – ‘Oromo Militias Masscre Somalis In Moyaale’ 14.12.2018).
ESAT report from Oromia:
“Police commissioner for the country’s Oromo region say 41 people, including police officers and local officials, were killed in the western part of the region in the last four months. Commissioner Alemayehu Ejigu blamed the Oromo Liberation Front (OLF) for the violence in western Ethiopia, according to local media reports. He said 29 civilians, 10 police officers and 2 local officials were killed while 77 police officers and 40 members of the local militia were injured. The perpetrators have also took 2,072 kalashnikovs from the police force, the commissioner said. Public and private properties have been destroyed” (Engidu Woldie/ESAT – ‘41 killed in violence in Western Ethiopia, suspects apprehended’ 24.12.2018)
When we know this sort of activity happening in Ethiopia. This is happening on the watch of PM Abiy, who are responsible and has to act on this. The actions in Afar region, the acts in Ogaden and the ones in Oromia. All of which, is innocent lives taken by the militias, the youth and other who spark ethnic conflict. This is all showing the problems within the state. That the PM has take care of, if he cares about the violence, the losses of life and the people who are hurt on his watch.
If the PM is a true reformist and someone who is in-charge. This should be top priority. Not getting people to remit money or get the Diaspora Fund working. No, this should be the first thing to do in 2019. Because, the PM has to act on this. That the EPRDF should react and finds solutions to this. Need to create space that stops the militias and violence in Afar, Oromia and in Ogaden Regions. They need to see to it.
The PM time to step your game up. This is sinister action, which results in people losing their life. That should be unacceptable. Peace.
