Zimbabwe: Zimbabwe Human Rights Commission (ZHRC) – Press Statement on Safety Crisis and Human Rights Violations by the City of Harare (11.09.2025)

Opinion: Kabaziguruka haven’t touched you, Mr. Mufumbiro

I also want to tell the country that my arrest was precipitated, facilitated by Kabaziguruka Michael — the person I’m contesting against. He works for security, he is a security operative and he is aware of whatever is happening to me. Michael Kabaziguruka” – NUP deputy spokesperson Alex Waiswa Mufumbiro (10.09.2025)

The Deputy Spokesperson of the National Unity Platform (NUP) Alex Waiswa Mufumbiro was abducted and detained by the authorities yesterday. Today the authorities produced him to court and changed the man. These sorts of actions are happening rapidly and with swift force, as the NUP is targeted of the opposition and as the biggest opposition party. Even as the ills of abductions, kidnappings and misuse of force on civilians like this. I still have to call him out on his nonsense.

Michael Kabaziguruka has nothing to do with the incarceration or charges pinned on Mufumbiro. That’s nonsense, as Kabaziguruka has been though the trials and tribulations himself. His a man who nearly lost his life for the cause and he couldn’t really serve as a Member of Parliament for months. Because of how the state targeted him and his candidacy. When you know that history and know what he went through. A man like that would never use any sort of time or will to haunt others. Seriously, I’m sure Michael wouldn’t sleep at night if he did that to anyone else. Since he knows it by heart and his soul wouldn’t rest.

That’s why the NUP Deputy Spokesman should focus on the state and the ones whose really harming him. Not imaginary tales and ghosts of Christmas Past. That’s really showing the foolishness and selling narratives that isn’t true. A candidate for the People’s Front for Freedom (PFF) having the power or finesse to get him abducted and charged in court is bogus. When the PFF cannot even save their first member and leader Dr. Kizza Besigye. So, please Mr. Mufumbiro where are you taking these conspiracy theories from?

Thin air most likely and using it for personal gains. This is a man who instead of targeting and going after the culprits are creating enemies. Instead of looking into or having the NUP investigate the matters. His instead going after a fellow opposition and a fellow man of the struggle. That should be the lesson here. That’s what Museveni wants and he wants wangles between the opposition and the forces against him. This is playing into his games and what he wants to achieve. Because, then the NUP and PFF are to busy bickering, instead of working against him and his National Resistance Movement (NRM).

I doubt Mr. Mufumbiro is clever enough to see that one coming. If he was clever or smart, he would allege these things or say it even. If he wants sympathy for his case, well, he isn’t getting it by pinning another innocent civilian. I am concerned about him being a prisoner of conscience, but I don’t like what he said about Kabaziguruka.

Let’s be honest here… who wins on this? Neither of the ones are winning. Everyone is losing, except for the third party looking onto it. The NUP is looking dumb and the PFF is made mockery of. Therefore, the NRM is getting ahead and the NUP Deputy Spokesperson talked hogwash for everyone to see.

Mufumbiro could have spoken sense and been driven by a just cause. However, he chose another path, which is only self-destructive. This isn’t building a case, but instead just causing more harm. A man of his stature should understand that, but I am sure he doesn’t grasp the implications himself. Kabaziguruka deserves better and so does Mufumbiro too. Peace.

Dear President Ram Chandra Poudel,
I still remember the first time I heard your name on TV when I was just 5 or 6 years old. I was excited because my grandfather’s name is also Ram Chandra, and for a moment I thought it was my grandfather being talked about. You were trying to be the PM those days but failed more than a dozen times.
Today, you stand as the Head of State. We all know the reality of the current situation in our country. I also know you may not be untouched by corruption, but now, as the President, you have a golden chance to stand on the right side of history. This generation could remember you for your courage and your integrity you showed at the end.
If you truly want change, make it happen, take the lead, form an interim government led by someone from civil society, with the sole responsibility of conducting a fair election within resonable time. And after that, step aside with honor.
As the guardian of the country, I humbly request you: take this step for a safe landing, because you know well that the people are not stopping. This could be your legacy, not just as President, but as the grandfather figure of our entire generation.
Respectfully,
[A concerned citizen]

Dr. Kizza Besigye has been behind bars for 293 days [without a proper trial or due process]: Now possibly being in critical condition at Luzira Prison

“Ugandan opposition leader Dr. Kizza Besigye, 69, detained in Luzira Maximum Security Prison on treason charges is in critical condition. He recently missed a court appearance due to illness, prompting the High Court in Kampala to adjourn his trial to Oct 1” (theHub TV, 08.09.2025).

Again, we are worried about the health and the state of Dr. Kizza Besigye. A man who has soon been over 300 days behind bars. The state plans to keep him behind bar 316 days on the 1st October 2025. They have kept him detained since 20th November 2024. That’s what the state has done without a proper trial or due process. No, this man is a political prisoner and a prisoner of conscience, which happened to be kidnapped and apprehended in Kenya.

So, this man is in trouble and in jeopardy. It isn’t that long ago that the prisoner and civilian was going on hunger strike. As the state wasn’t moving the case and doing it righteous. That’s why he did so as the only way to signal the needs for justice.

Dr. Kizza Besigye are a sign of the grim times, as his been a vocal dissident and opposition leader daring to challenge the regime. That’s why they are keeping him behind bars. Even when they have no case or no evidence of the criminal conspiracy or even supposed crimes that he was committed to do. If the state had any or was serious about the case. They wouldn’t have deferred it and been so lenient about issuing adjournment of it at any time.

The ones that believes this case is sincere. Then the state would have done it and showed their evidence. The state would have produced the witnesses and proven their case. Instead, they are just moving the case around and never making it happen. All to have excuses and reasons to keep him detained.

Dr. Kizza Besigye is a victim of his of work. Besigye’s own work ethic and activism is the reason for his arrest. His stances and ways of organizing is the reason why his behind bars. It isn’t a conspiracy, but a fact. That’s why the state and the authorities are barring him from ordinary life. Just to signal the Republic what it does to its detractors and what it does vocal dissidents. Peace.
