In 2020, UNICEF is expecting an increase in number of children suffering from acute malnutrition, increasing from 860,000 in 2019 to 1.3 million in 2020.
JUBA, South Sudan, December 5, 2019 – 4.1 million children will need urgent assistance in South Sudan in 2020. Years of conflict have destroyed critical infrastructure hindering access to basic services such as clean water, health care and education. Gender-based violence is prevalent and unaccompanied children are at risk of exploitation and abuse. The unresolved political conflict and lack of essential services prevents displaced people from returning home to rebuild their lives. At the same time, the floods affecting 78 counties across the country, have devastated crops making an already difficult food situation worse. Critical infrastructure, including schools and health centres, will need to be rebuilt when the water subsides. In 2020, UNICEF is expecting an increase in number of children suffering from acute malnutrition, increasing from 860,000 in 2019 to 1.3 million in 2020. This includes 292,000 children under five years of age suffering from severe acute malnutrition.
UNICEF is appealing for US$180 million to respond to the most immediate needs of women and children in South Sudan the coming year.
“How can we expect children to grow if the water they are drinking is makes them sick?’’ asked UNICEF South Sudan Representative, Dr Mohamed Ag Ayoya. “While the country is struggling with finding a sustainable and peaceful solution to the conflict, our focus remains on the future which means the children of South Sudan.”
In 2019, UNICEF and partners were able to treat 186,000 children for severe acute malnutrition, provide clean water to some 460,000 people, delivered education to 610,000 children and vaccinated over 430,000 children against measles. Meanwhile, the overall humanitarian funding in South Sudan decreased. For 2019, UNICEF appealed for US$179 million, by end of August just over half was funded. This hampered UNICEF’s efforts to respond to the needs of women and children, including supporting demobilization of children from armed forces and groups and provide water and sanitation to some of the most vulnerable people in the country.
“The only thing that I am 100 per cent sure of is that the children growing up in South Sudan cannot be blamed for the situation in the country. Yet, they are paying the highest price – with their futures,” said UNICEF South Sudan Representative, Dr Mohamed Ag Ayoya. “If we want to see a prosperous South Sudan, we need to continue to invest in the current and coming generation of children, ensuring they are not only surviving but thriving. For that we need all partners and all donors to join in.”
In 2020, UNICEF is aiming at:

ABBAS ALHASSAN

Well, the Police Force who besieged his home in Kasangati, Wakiso District. He was able to surpass it and get into his car, as he drove towards his office at Katonga Road. Dr. Kizza Besigye were intercepted and towed his car first to Naggalama Police Station, before returning him to his home. It was a few hours of stress, ruckus and lot of nonsense.
As elsewhere, there was all festivities, as the President and his convoy walked across the CBD to Kololo. Surely, the walk from the offices of Besigye to Constitutional Square would have gone well, but the authorities doesn’t want to have two conflicting marches nor have anyone stealing the spotlight from the Head of State.
The Police Force claims they wasn’t informed, but the Peoples’ Government had put out an statement about it and their planned route on the 29th November 2019. Much earlier, than the State House and Police Force itself informed the public about their route through the CBD.
Therefore, this was a hit, a planned hit and to think otherwise is naïve at this point.
Some simple reports on the matters:
“Police has surrounded the home of Rtd Col Kiiza Besigye after he announced to lead a parallel Anti-Corruption Walk from Katonga Road to the Constitutional Square. This will be after President Museveni leads the public in the anti-corruption walk today” (Capital FM Uganda, 04.12.2019).
“Police have stopped a planned parallel anti-corruption walk by former Forum for Democratic Change President Dr Kizza Besigye today. Besigye’s team were planning a walk similar to that of State House Anti-Corruption Unit where the chief walker is President Museveni” (97.8 Kazo FM Omushomesa, 04.12.2019).
That’s why Besigye wasn’t allowed to walk. The authorities shut it down. They stopped this from happening and did it willingly. There was no efforts spared from stopping it from happening. The man who had no other alternative motives, than actually battle the corruption. Not do another PR Stunt, like the Chief Walker.
Let’s be serious for a little moment. This is the proof of the charade. There is no interest combatting the corruption in the Republic, neither the impunity and lack of rule of law. When, a man like Besigye without forewarning is arrested in his home and besieged by Anti-Riot Police… That is just the mere reality and that doesn’t do any good. Still, this is the proof of what the authorities to its citizens.
This is not new and not the last time Besigye will be arrested, nor house-arrested or anything else. Every time he tries to cause a stir, he gets violated by the state. There is nothing else that will happen. This is common thread in the Republic and his the first victim of this. Peace.

“I have never stolen anything from anybody. And I am also not a poor man” – Yoweri Kaguta Museveni at the Walk Against Corruption on the 4th December 2019
Today, was the official walk against Corruption in Kampala, as the President, the Anti-Corruption Unit at the State House and all other governing parties involved muster up a decent crowd of paid participants, staff and whatnot, security guards and whoever they could find. To walk a distance in the midst of Kampala.
At one point, the guards and security told pieces of the march to slow down, because it couldn’t walk faster than the President. Even as he went to Kololo, he still went at a rate, that was to slow too many. This walk will not change anything. It is a PR Stunt, which will not gain anything fruitful. It is more public wastage in order of looking sincere, which it is not and will never, be.
“It is a moral problem because you make yourself a parasite. Corrupt people are parasites because they get wealth which they did not earn, because they think that God does not see the bad things they do. In the last 60 years, I have been watching and I have not seen these corrupt people being successful sustainably” – Yoweri Kaguta Museveni at the Walk Against Corruption on the 4th December 2019
With this in mind, the President is truthfully telling the world that his rich. His vastly rich, Ritchie Rich, rich actually. However, the President doesn’t tell how he got there. It was not like he had wealth and assets going into the role of the Presidency. Not like he had estates, businesses and ranches going in. No, he was an impoverished former Minister, who had gotten grants by mercy of Nyerere and who was hired by Obote II. That is who he was until 1986. Therefore, his wealth has come with power and with incentives given to him over time, also boosting his accounts and also his cronies.
Secondly, if it is a moral problem, then its engraved into this administration. If corrupt people are insects and parasites, there is surely a lot of them in his cabinet, in his offices and around his closest associates. Himself is a parasite then. Because, he haven’t gained wealth on innovation, marketing or basic business models, but by being in-office and getting bargain by kickbacks and inside deals.
Last, but not last. We can say you Mr. President has been successful, gaining more and more power, more and more money and depleting the state, little by little. To a point, where nothing isn’t up for grabs, where secret deals inside the State House decides, if they are staying or going. The Presidential Handshakes and whatnot is the ones crediting to you. That is why walking today is obnoxious and outrageous. Only naïve and dumbfounded people believes this PR Stunt.
The man cannot fight himself. He will not tarnish his own creation and destroy what he keeps him there. Therefore, this is charade, packed as a rally and a march against something. But in the end, it will only further show the rot, the plight and the suffering the actions made by this cause. Peace.

“For structures to work, those of us who put them should respect them, especially when they pass a ruling. I am now going to politics: We had our elections, after those elections, you don’t tell yourself that you have won. Other people are the ones who name the winner. If you enter a race … and you run the race and you get to the finish line, you don’t go there and say it’s me who won, there are other people who announce the winner … these are the institutions that regulate how people live in the country. Now when you can’t listen to the institutions, you will have disobeyed God, because he is a God of order” – President Emmerson D. Mnangagwa on the 2nd December 2019
This President and Head of State is something else, instead of actually acting supreme and delivering to the public. His bitching because the Movement of Democratic Change – Alliance (MDC-A) Nelson Chamisa and his opposition party haven’t legitimized President Mnangagwa and Zimbabwe African National Union – Patriotic Front (ZANU-PF). Seriously after the election in 2018 and the November Coup d’etat in 2017.
Still, the former Lacoste and handler of Mugabe needs the blessing of Chamisa. Who would know the ego of this man is like this. Surely, its not enough that his forces sends soldiers and police officers to the venues of the MDC. That they block, arrests and silence the opposition. Hurt civilians and oppress the opposition.
Mnangagwa should know this, his continuing the ZANU-PF ways of going after activists and opposition leaders. It fires doctors doing industrial action against the incapacitation of the health workers in the Republic. Over 90 days without a decent salary, as the economy is tanking and the financial policies not working. The raising inflations, the lack of stable currency and lack of foreign exchange.
Still, all Mnangagwa does is complain that Chamisa doesn’t love him. Chamisa is supposed to have a man-crush on Emmerson. I’m just kidding, but that is how it seems to be. This coming from the same head of state, that sent soldiers to the streets and killed civilians for supporting Chamisa in the Post-Election timeline. After that put the blame on Chamisa and even made the MOPO Act to control the opposition ways of demonstrating and easier to block these. In effect, being worse than his predecessor.
Still, Mnangagwa is saying Chamisa should say: “Mnangagwa is ruling by the honour of the Gods, the grandest and highest servant of the angels from Heaven. The man whose ruling the Republic with the mercy and the salvation of Christ. The man whose reign I shall bless, because Gods says so”.
Well, that will not happen. Neither, is the President acting Godly, worried about the subjects of the state, the citizens nor their well-being, as the state is depleted, the state is broken and the lack of due diligence is everywhere. Instead of securing the basics, like food, shelter and goods, the state is hiring private planes and spending fortunes on “Command Agriculture”. That is just the merciful acts of Mnangagwa.
A man who came by the gun, who will die by the gun and who will automatically expect people’s loyalty. Even when its not deserved or something earned. His only fortune, expect for money is fear. The levels of fear and intimidation is at another level. The President who uses the military and police to monitor and control its enemies, will default at one point or another. The police state and the lack of rule law, will sooner or later haunt this administration.
Mnangagwa might claim its his “God-Given” right to rule, however, that was given to him by the army and loyal allies within the Lacoste. It wasn’t given to him by the Saints nor any of the Angels of the Heavens. No, it was the guns and the will of the army. That shall not be forgotten.
Mnangagwa better cry his crocodile tears. He will not get the stamp of approval from Chamisa. His party headquarters are raided, his fellow allies arrested and so-on. There is nothing the state doesn’t do. Therefore, to ask Chamisa is insane and foolish. It is weak tea and shows that Emmerson needs a ego boost. Because, he knows his fate to rule isn’t forever. That’s why his renaming himself and getting his name on streets. Something he can leave behind, because he cannot leave a legacy of greatness. Since the is none.
The tears might hit his chin, but don’t feel sorry for the man. Feel sorry for all the people struggling to get health care, all the citizens who lacks water, all the citizens who cannot afford basic commodities and who also suffering with their food security. It all because of this man, a man who thinks he should get all glory, but that will not be his story. His acts and together with ZANU-PF will be remembered for everything else. No propaganda can overshadow the grim and dark situation the Republic is in. It is just a matter of time, before he reality hits the upper-echelon and the tragedies get viral. Than, the President cannot beg anyone in his Republic, but he has to go begging abroad to save his ass. Peace.
