Kawempe North By-Election: Is Ssegirinya’s former PA to run on a “DA” independent ticket?

Alex Muhammed Luswa Luwemba, the former Personal Assistant of the late MP, Muhammed Ssegirinya. The one coming third in the internal nominations to become the successor of Mr. Update from within the National Unity Platform (NUP).

Luswa is reported to now run as an independent and under the wings of the Democratic Allianec of former Leader of Opposition, Mathias Mpuuga. That is done as a spiteful chant against the NUP. They are using Luswa as a competition and a voice against Bobi Wine. This is why they would do it.

Meanwhile, Luswa who wasn’t able to get traction and hit the marks within the NUP. We have seen what the NRM did and picked the daughter of a National Vice Chairperson Moses Kigongo, Hajjat Hanifah Karadi. The FDC picked a yellow candidate in a Sadat Mukiibi or Khalifah Aganaga. The NUP themselves picked the former Democratic Party (DP) counsel Erias Nalukoola Luyimbazi. We are seeing all sorts of actions and people fielding themselves for the best self-interest.

That is what Luswa is doing to now. He is just following the others. Because, if he stays in the NUP. He will be a stalwart and not get anywhere. That’s why his possibly jumping ship too. As he isn’t seen as viable or able to get ahead from within. This is where Mpuuga takes him under his wings and ensures his Democratic Alliance (DA) get some spotlight on it ahead of the 2026 elections.

The Kawempe North By-Election is for the NUP to loose. We are seeing the other parties are fielding their candidates. There no alliances or any sort of joint candidacy fielded at this point. Meaning it is a heavy contested seat. The NUP is expected to retain it and it should be an easy ride for them. Though we know the NRM will use their tricks and their might to rig the game. Therefore, never think it will be easy. As this is the show off ahead of the 2026 general election.

Mpuuga wants to look like a kingmaker and be the next in line for greatness in the opposition. He needs to look viable and that his DA is able to create a fuzz. They will be tested here and this is why it helps to the likes of Luswa. He is following the sympathy and picking someone who has been in the ear of Mr. Update. That’s why he does this… and can give him a shot of creating interest there.

The DA won’t win it, but they will make a mess. The DA will cause harm to the NUP and possibly weaken it by using a former ally of the late MP. That is a winning for Mpuuga. Also, possibly give some way to the NRM candidate. This is the ironic part of doing so. Not like the FDC has a chance either.

This is for Nalukoola to lose. He should make it happen and ensure a prolonged NUP reign here. However, we are seeing the play here and it’s obvious. They are here to weaken the NUP and whatever it is doing. NUP could also have picked a more regarded internal candidate, but the EMC has their reasons for doing this.

Let’s see how this one is played out. Regardless, this is what happens when you play these sorts of games. Peace.

Tanzania: Lissu’s warning to the CCM

When we say ‘no reform, no election,’ we mean that if the necessary electoral changes are not implemented, we will do everything in our power to prevent this year’s general election from proceeding. This is not about boycotting the election—we will not boycott it. Instead, we will go to the people of Tanzania, the international community, and the world to declare that if CCM and its government refuse to institute reforms for a free and fair election, then this election must not take place at all. That is the true meaning of ‘no reform, no election” – Tundu Lissu (12.02.2025).

The ones in-charge and in office most likely won’t adhere to or listen to the leader of CHADEMA, Tundu Lissu. Not that its expected that the Chama Cha Mapundzi (CCM) are listening to any others than themselves. We know they have already made laws that monitors and controls the political, media and civic space. The amendments of laws and legislation of recent years has just ensured and ensnared the abilities of the opposition to operate without prior notifications and go-ahead from the state. Therefore, Lissu’s words are important, but don’t expect them to do any magic.

The CCM isn’t interested in reforms or electoral reforms for that matter. If it is in the eyes of the CCM. Another election is just a procedure for them. CHADEMA know this too. They know it perfectly well.

No one should expect the CCM to actively reform the up-coming election. That isn’t in their interests. Even if everyone knows the game is rigged and the CCM is just steam-walking to another victory. Meanwhile, the will of the people aren’t really there and doesn’t really matter. As the CCM has ensured their ballots and gamed the system. Therefore, the CHADEMA is destined to loose and the CCM continues to prosper. That’s the game and we all know it.

The 2025 elections won’t be any different from the 2020 ones. It is the same people behind the election and the stakes are practically the similar. The CCM aren’t bothered or concerned about these pleas. Tundu Lissu is right about it, but his speaking to the void. The CCM has only made amendments and legislation that has benefited them.

The ones believing the CCM wants to change or make things free and fair is dreaming. There is no reason for the CCM to make that happen. The CCM already have everything, they have the instruments of the state and the authorities behind them. The CCM has everything to lose and why would they risk it?

CHADEMA an Lissu is right, but the gist of the matter is that the CCM won’t care. They have no reason too. They have nothing to gain from it. There is no incentive and no real argument for the CCM to do it. They are winning and regardless of the outcry or the demonstrations coming after. The CCM can contain it and isn’t worried of a revolution. No, they aren’t afraid of the people or their possible ramifications of doing so. That’s because the CCM has everything and they won’t budge on that. Peace.

Kawempe North By-Election: The NUP have picked the former DP counsel as their flagbearer

Erias Nalukoola Luyimbazi the prominent lawyer and counsel are now the National Unity Platform (NUP) candidate as the Member of Parliament in the Kawempe North By-Election. It is only last October 2024 that he resigned as the counsel for the Democratic Party (DP) after his disagreement with the DP-NRM agreement. However, that was after a long time, and he waited long to do so.

It is within reason why Nalukoola would pick the NUP. He knows this is the best way to Parliament in the Opposition. The NUP are the current one who was elected to the seat and is most likely the party to get re-elected into. That’s why for him to take this seat is vital. It is the way in and ensuring himself longevity. He can now continue Mr. Update’s work and created his own legacy by doing so.

Alas, herein where the problem is. He is a political elite. This man has been in the upper echelon and is a voice of reason. Yes, he has fought as a counsel for big cases and for prominent leaders. That’s been part of his work and what he stood for. However, that doesn’t make him a man of the people. Only that he has picked to represent as a set of people and they have given him work.

The former DP counsel just mere months after leaving that party of long affiliation. That man decided to stand in the earliest By-Election. He got ahead and even used his nomination of the role as a way of giving rice to supporters, as he presented his paperwork to the NUP Party officials. That’s what he decided to do, and it is telling.

This man is transactional and will leverage his position. He was just a minute ago the DP counsel. We can wonder what the Election Management Committee (EMC) is seeing or reasoning for their decision.

I’m just baffled, especially after the heroics of Mpuuga. The NUP saw what happened and there been other journeymen just using the ticket to get ahead. These people are just seeing a meal-ticket and not there for possible change. No, they are using the party and getting into office. Not caring about the message or the mandate of the party. When you have the likes of Mpuuga leaving the DP to become NUP. Maybe, the NUP should be careful doing the same thing again.

That’s why I am wondering what the long-term plan with this is and what is their endgame. It seems to be a quick fix. He will never fill the void of Muhammad Ssegirinya MP. No one can fill that or become a figure like him. Mr. Update used his whole life and years to become the man he was. Meanwhile, the counsel will takeover from the late MP.

Well, it won’t be that easy. Most likely he will get elected and get a few months in the 11th Parliament before the General Election of 2026. Nevertheless, this seems like a misfortunate choice. The party did this in haste and took a big-name lawyer. Instead of picking a person that could be representative and be a voice of the people.

That’s why the NUP could have used longer time and let this one go for now. However, for the party its more important to retain a seat, than re-assure the population that the party will have their best interests at heart. It seems more into getting another MP, than getting an MP who can be as wholesome as Mr. Update. Alas, that is a forgotten chapter and it’s tragic.

Seeing this now… is just at a loss. The NUP could have made a better plan for this. They have shown some character. Nevertheless, this short-term patch work won’t build a resilient party, but instead find more journeymen to become their flagbearers. Peace.

Kawempe North By-Election: The FDC Flagbearer is practically ‘Yellow’

“In the first remix that leaked online, Aganaga was heard calling Bobi Wine ‘fala’ with words ‘tolonda oyo fala’ however Aganaga denied owning the song. However the singer has now openly come out and acknowledged the song as his adding that a remix version with President Museveni is getting released and the video is coming soon. “As you know that am good at making old people sing hits in this industry , as a producer, best song writer, a sound engineer & a business man, I have landed on a collabo with the Current President of Uganda, H.E Yoweri K Museveni” Aganaga said as he describes his next move as Music for Business” (Nasa Tushabe – ‘Kalifah Aganaga In a New Song Collabo with Sevo, Kiboko Fire Remix’ 25.09.2020, Blizz Uganda).

The Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) has now launched the candidacy of Afro-dancehall artist Sadat Mukiibi aka Kalifah Aganaga as the flagbearer in the Kawempe North By-Election. It is just shocking and showing how far the FDC has fallen.

“We have today successfully concluded the internal process of identifying candidates who will hold our flag in the upcoming Kawempe North By-election. The Party Electoral Commission has officially presented the following candidates:

  1. Mr. Sebunya Sharif – Councilor, Kazo Angola
  2. Mr. Mukiibi Sadat – Member of Parliament, Kawempe North” (Forum for Democratic Change, 05.02.2025).

The pick of candidate, a person who sold out and dipped out from the National Unity Platform (NUP) ahead of the General Election of 2021. That’s when he started to campaign for Museveni and became a National Resistance Movement (NRM) member. This is who he is and what he become.

That Patrick Oboi Amuriat are launching the campaign of Khalifah Aganaga is telling. FDC as we knew is falling. The reputation and how it looks is just maligning itself. POA deciding on the artist just shows what he wants to do. They are trying the populist approach with someone who is hunting for a home. The musician is already a journeyman and someone who has no trouble working with the NRM. So, we don’t know if he has revoked or distanced himself from NRM. A party he campaigned for before the 2021 election. Alas, that shows his character and what he was willing to do.

A man who is proud of having a “bad character” and running a corporation in that name. That’s who POA believes in and anoints. This is just so compelling…

The FDC fielding someone like this. That is just a story in itself. They are trying to prove a point, but it is futile. Just a mockery of People Power and the NUP. They are serving the NRM by doing this, as he was just in their midst and working for them a hot minute ago. That’s what Najjanankumbi tries to achieve here.

It is just tragic and a sad sight to see. This is what the party has become, and everyone should watch what Katonga Road does. Because that is where the trials and tribulations against the struggle continues. It has left the offices of Najjanankumbi, apparently. Peace.

Kawempe North By-Election: An update on the upcoming polls

The Electoral Commission has scheduled the road map ahead of the Kawempe North By-Election, which is now happening later this year. That was bound to happen after the demise and the fall of the late Mohammed Ssegirinya aka Mr. Update.

The National Unity Platform (NUP) is following suit and have asked for the ones who wants to be the flagbearer and become the next MP to step up. They have the time to express interests in it until the 4th February and the party will unveil their candidate on the 5th February. Surely within the guidelines of the Electoral Commission and in time to register the candidate as a contestant in the By-Election itself. Therefore, the NUP continues like no tomorrow.

The EC has settle the dates for delivering of the candidacy at the Office of the returning officer in the time span of the 26th and 27th February. This shows that the NUP is planning to be in advance and ensure their candidate is ready for campaigning early. As well, as waiting for the campaign period of 28th February to the 11th March 2025. Meanwhile, the polls are on the 13th March and we are seeing the MP will be elected on this day and either announced later that night or the day after. Depending on how the EC is planning to pull this one of.

The NUP is now working within the system and preparing to participate in this. The NUP want to replace Mr. Update and have the seat in the end of the 11th Parliament. Though that is a short stint before having to participate yet again in the 2026 General Election. By the time the MP is sworn in…

The MP would only have 6 months or possibly max 8 months or so. As the 11th Parliament has to accept the election and swear the MP in. That is up to the Speaker and Deputy Speaker to make it happen as Parliament Business. We just have to await… and see how that one plays out.

That the NUP is doing this isn’t surprising. There is already several candidates and people who wants to takeover the seat. These are running social media campaigns and published posters with slogans. They are ready to step up and take over as the flagbearer. It just shows how quickly someone takes over from the late. Instead of grieving or even honour the late. These cannot wait for their turn and be the next legislator who is getting in office.

Mr. Update deserves better than this. The system and the authorities doesn’t care, but the NUP should have honoured this man. They held the burial, but now they are contesting his seat like an ordinary day. The party just unleashing the ability to nominate themselves and telling when they will announce the candidate. Regardless of who this is… they will never be Mr. Update or live up to his potential. Mr. Update is one in a million and no one will be able to takeover from him. That heart and the voice of reason doesn’t come natural to plenty of others.

That’s why I wanted the NUP to boycott this one and instead held a longer period of mourning of Mr. Update. In this way have better time and be able to find the righteous candidate to step into the shadow of Mr. Update. Instead it will now be a petty fight within the party and also be a rushed campaign. The late MP deserves a better man and possibly someone who could revisit his love for the constituency.

The NUP cannot and aren’t able to find that suitable man within a hot minute. We shouldn’t expect magic, but surely … this is just rushed, and the constituency deserves better. They had a great leader and MP. They should have more time and now will be traded off in a hasteful campaign. That is where we are going… Peace.

Zimbabwe: Office of the President and Cabinet – Press Statement (22.01.2025)

Opinion: Kagabo MP finally came home

“That is their opinion, you know any opinion that ignores the facts is inclined to a fool or an idiot. This invite had an agenda, it isn’t perfunctory that you saw me in State House. I went to State House to meet the President, not NRM. Those are two different things. I pray to God that he gives you the wits to know the difference between meeting the President and party issues, they are very distinct. Just pray to God that He gives you that wisdom to demystify the two” – Twaha Kagabo (Bukoto South MP, National Unity Platform (NUP)) – (06.02.2024).

The journey is over. The former National Unity Platform (NUP) Member of Parliament of the Bukoto South MP is now vying to become the National Resistance Movement (NRM) MP for Bukoto South. He has within the term gone from the NUP to the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) to join the NRM.

This is a man that claimed to be an opposition and fight the dictator. To change his stripes when getting into office. Not like a fantastic or brilliant legislator. No, his not known for making motions or petitions the August House. This man has been busy finding new means to eat and find ways to get a meal-ticket. That’s who Kagabo MP is.

In February 2024 I said he should just turn yellow. That was how he engaged and talked anyway. There was nothing about him that was aligned with the NUP or the opposition. He could just be another crony and bootlicker of the state. That’s who he has become, and he found his path. Instead of having a moral code or even considering the implications. He rather sellout and become one of them.

That he went from the NUP and Bobi Wine to celebrate the dictator’s son. Just shows what sort of character he is and now he joins the NRM because the PLU won’t have separate tickets in the upcoming election. Therefore, he has to go to NRM and not stand on the PLU.

This is after the PLU said they were aligned with the NRM and no one should be shocked by that. The PLU is the NRM and the NRM is the PLU. It is just different fronts for the same message. They are working for the same regime and dynamic. Nothing is significantly different.

Just one man who turned on his cause and sold his soul. That’s who Kagabo MP is and everyone should know. He went from fighting the dictatorship to partaking in it. Just imagine that. Peace.

Zimbabwe: Zimbabwe Heads of Christian Denominations – Statement on Presidential Constitutional Term Limits (21.01.2025)

Opinion: Museveni is campaigning already [with the PDM assessment tour]

Now that President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni is touring the nation in the name of the Parish Development Model or the PDM. His doing the old bidding and using it as front for what his actually doing. This is campaigning and holding rallies outside the Electoral Road Map. That is using his authority and ability as the Head of State to vie the public with the carrot of micro-financing schemes.

This isn’t new of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) or the General himself. No, Museveni has done this for years and before the General Elections. It has been done in the name of Operation Wealth Creation (OWC) and Emyooga. Now it is PDM…

The State House will need Supplementary Budgets for it. It doesn’t matter if the PDM isn’t operational, functional or even having all mechanisms working to be the “silver bullet” to end poverty. It is just the newest scheme out of plenty. This President has promised the “golden goose” since the 1980s and made up schemes since at least the mid 1990s. So, we shouldn’t be surprised that he does it again and again.

When he goes to the up-country, up north, up east and central region in the name of the PDM. It is cookie cut campaigning to ensure longevity of his rule. That is done to be visible and let the villagers believe in his dream. This is to sell the promises and act like he has achieved something recently. Even if his selling the same story and re-inventing the wheel. That’s what his doing and still wasn’t prepared when launching the PDM. That’s why the PDM haven’t worked properly and is misused. It is paying ghosts and other non-entities in the name of ending poverty.

Alas, the President is coming with empty promises and pledging to heal the nation. Even if he doesn’t fix the institutions, neither have the funding for government services or even ensure the infrastructure is up to levels. That is just what he does and he will vilify the predecessors that has been dead for decades while his doing it.

This is just what Museveni does. He goes on these rallies and tours as early campaigning. Just to ensure the local NRM are ready and is on his side. His there to galvanize and hopeful corrupt the young minds with smoking mirrors. That’s all he has and those words are supposed to salvage his office. If not… he has to intimidate them to submission. Therefore, don’t expect mercy from His Excellency. That is a train that has left the station.

The ones thinking 2026 will be different than any other election. You got to be naive or an ignorant fool. As long as Museveni is on the ticket. The stars are aligned and we know the game already. Peace.

Opinion: Kagame is a hypocrite [‘Pilato’ What’s Up? – Part II]

I know leaders when I see them. I also know idiots when I see them. You can imagine the combination of both of them, the disaster it is. If you are a leader and an idiot, it’s an absolute disaster. It is even worse, even more dangerous, if the very people who hold the power in their hands decide that they will be manipulated and played around for some interest by idiots” – President Paul Kagame (16.01.2025).

The Self-Styled President for Life, Paul Kagame. The man who gets elected in elections, which are ready made and tailor-made for himself and no one else. A man who appoints and decides who can sit with him at his table. A man who has all power and decides life or death. That man is speaking like this.

We know Kagame wants to be seen as a statesman and honourable leader, but the deceased on his record is speaking otherwise. If you dare to sing, write cartoons or even shamelessly address him in public. Your life is in danger and you can forget about seeing the sunlight again. Because you will die in a dungeon or by a mysterious brazen extra judicial killing. Therefore, Kagame thinks people’s are fools. Since his been able to have a good publicity team and having a great PR agents making him look. Meanwhile, we know that this isn’t true.

People tell us they want democracy everywhere, they encourage elections, [yet] the person who is causing problems in this situation I am talking about between Rwanda and DRC, has never twice been elected. And you know it. This is why I was saying it doesn’t matter evidence, doesn’t matter facts, doesn’t matter the claim, it is just what you think applies to you for that moment, for your benefit, the rest doesn’t matter” (Kagame, 16.01.2025).

A man that is elected the way Kagame is… he shouldn’t target anyone, except for President Afewerki who has never been elected ever. That man he could address and mock. Nevertheless, Kagame has no knowledge of a democratic election or popular polls. They are all configured for him to get elected.

Yes, Tshisekedi was able to get selected in the first term and the machinery was made for him in the second term. There is nothing honest about the elections and the polls that made him the Head of State in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). I won’t give credit to him either.

Regardless of that… Kagame isn’t the man that should critic or even state it. He should look into how he has run his nation and ensured total control ahead of elections. That’s how he wins with 98% and 99% of the votes. Even the blind, the dead and the goats are all voting for Kagame. So, let get the game straight and it’s rigged in his regard too.

Pilato takes people for fools. He says other nations are run by idiots, but if he was so smart. Why haven’t he become a Middle Income Country? Why isn’t the nation progressing and becoming Switzerland of Africa, aye?

Well, you go figure right? It is all a business and an enterprise for him to extract wealth. Not to create a working state and a nation for everyone. If it was working for everyone. His enemies would die in jail or die by poisoning in exile. That’s just being real.

Pilato should know better, but he just think he owns it and has the finesse. Alas, everyone cannot be fooled all the time. Even if the government press writes love letters to him on the daily. Peace.
