We announce our regularity, as of today, under the name of the Civil Democratic Alliance of the Revolutionary Forces (Sumoud), through temporary structures headed by Dr. Abdullah Hamdok.
to me:
The Sudanese people at home and abroad in war zones, displacement and refugee camps
Friends of Sudan and its people who support our people’s right to peace and a free and dignified life by responding to their legitimate aspirations for sustainable democratic civil rule in neighboring countries and peoples and our regional and international surroundings.
Local, regional and international public opinion
We address you today while our country is going through a criminal war that has left behind the largest humanitarian disaster in the world and is still raging in a brutal manner that is increasing day after day, with millions of innocent Sudanese paying the price, and the advocates of war and elements of the former regime profiting from it, who want to liquidate the glorious December revolution and tighten their control over the country, and reproduce a more brutal version of their criminal fascist regime, which has a long history of terrorist destabilization and whose results and effects are known in our regional and international neighborhood.
The civil and democratic forces, within the framework of their role and efforts to stop the war, achieve peace and establish sustainable democratic civil rule, convened a meeting in the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa, in October 2023, which resulted in the announcement of the establishment of the “Coordination of Democratic Civil Forces (Progress)” to be the broadest umbrella for democratic civil forces opposing the war, in order to achieve comprehensive and lasting peace and establish sustainable democratic civil rule. In order to achieve these goals and objectives, great and tremendous efforts were made, leading to the founding conference in May 2024, which added new and qualitative components to “Progress.”
The last few months have witnessed a difference in visions between the components of “Progress” regarding the issue of legitimacy and how to deal with it. This difference resulted in the existence of two positions that were difficult to reconcile, so it was decided to sever the political and organizational link between two positions. The first of these positions sees the continuation of the struggle through means of democratic civil work without forming a government, and the other position sees the formation of a government as one of the tools of the coordination’s work.
In light of these developments, we, the undersigned groups and components that rejected the formation of a government as one of the tools to delegitimize the Port Sudan authority, announce to our people and local, regional and international public opinion that we will, as of today, join under the name *The Civil Democratic Alliance of the Revolutionary Forces “Sumoud”*, in our belief and commitment to the importance of the democratic civil forces choosing and committing to an independent path that does not side with any of the parties to the war or engage in it in any way, and that they confront every action or statement that threatens the unity of the country and tears apart its social fabric, and that their approach should be the tireless pursuit of protecting civilians, confronting any violations to which they are exposed, addressing the humanitarian crisis and stopping the war urgently through a peaceful political solution that addresses the roots of the crisis in a way that leads to the establishment of the Sudanese state and the establishment of a sustainable and just peace.
We, in the Civil Democratic Alliance of the Revolutionary Forces “Sumoud”*, affirm that we will remain committed to the principles and goals that we agreed upon in the founding conference of the Coordination of Civil Democratic Forces “Progress”. In this context, we have agreed to work through temporary structures headed by Dr. Abdullah Hamdok until the permanent structures are approved after completing the necessary organizational discussions. As for the political and media level, we reaffirm the continuation of our daily work for the purpose of contributing positively to ensure the protection of civilians and stopping any violations they are exposed to, and working to address the humanitarian crisis and deliver aid to those in need throughout Sudan without restrictions, conditions or discrimination, and completing efforts to stop the war by building the broadest civil democratic front for forces that believe in the goals of the December Revolution and believe in stopping the war and achieving comprehensive and permanent peace and establishing democratic civil rule, while subjecting all our organizational and political experiences to deep reviews that develop and enhance the ability of the civil democratic forces to confront the discourses of war and hatred and the plans of the defunct regime, and to complete the path of the glorious December Revolution that the forces of darkness will not succeed in burying no matter what they do.
