South Sudan: The Naath White Army should worry J1

The recent skirmishes and battles in the Upper Nile state and in Nasir County should be a huge concern for the state. This is what happens when you are dismissing and are disregarding civilian outcry. That’s what is happening in the state and the negligence is why this is having a reaction.

Why the state should be worried about it, is when they are saying this about themselves:

“The Naath White Army (Jiec El Abiet) is not just a defense unit—it is the heartbeat of our people. We are self-trained, battle-hardened warriors who have mastered gunfights, sniper warfare, and strategic defense. We are hunters, raised to track and eliminate threats. We do not fear death because we were born to fight for our land” (…) “Nasir has always been a sanctuary, a fortress, a stronghold for those who seek refuge from oppression. Every major leader in South Sudan’s history has relied on Nasir—not because they loved it, but because they needed its strength. Now, we defend it for ourselves” (…) “No politician arms us. We arm ourselves. We are not mercenaries fighting for political gain—we fight for survival, for dignity, and for the future of our people. During the civil war, we captured entire regions. We took weapons from those who sought to destroy us. Today, we remain armed, vigilant, and ready” (…) “Nasir is defended by its sons. If you come for it, you will face the Naath White Army. And we do not forgive. We do not forget” (Mayang Tut Kuer, 19.02.2025).

The ones thinking this sort of conflict will die down quickly. That’s false, because the White Army is an entity created out of grievances and the needs of Nasir. They have a self-belief in the Nasir and will fight for it. That should sound the alarm, as this is one rebellion and one instance of people addressing political grievances with guns. Just like the comedian who started his rebel outfit last year. There are now visible and viable youths of a state willing to go into combat. They are doing that for their cause, because the state has left them behind.

We know the significance of Nasir in South Sudanese history. That’s an important place in the history and liberation of South Sudan. This everyone should acknowledge and that also reflected on the ideals of the fighters who are a part of the Naath White Army.

This isn’t a SPLM/A-IO versus SPLM/A. The White Army isn’t new, but it’s a proof that the Transitional Period and the lack of implementation has hurt the Republic. As the youths are only seeing it viable to take arms to answer to their government. Because they know letters or asking for proper representation won’t appear. Neither will the government defend or be there in their hour of need. That’s why they get recruited and becomes a part of the White Army.

This is a sign of a failure of J1 and the leadership of Juba. As they have had the time to listen to the pleas and ensure these youths a better future. Instead their only choice to get the state to see them… is to use arms and create insecurity.

The R-TGoNU needs to know their place. The SSPDF aren’t alone in this. Here is a bigger picture and lack of government services at fault. The youth doesn’t see any value in the government or whatever the state has to offer. So, they in the lack of future joins a para-military group and an armed rebellion. Because they don’t see the state as viable or have anything for them. That’s why they enlist and gets recruited to the White Army.

The answer of bringing gunships against armed civilians shows where the state is versus the Nuer grievances… this is causing conflict between Dinka and Nuer. That isn’t new either, but the transition should have settled this and ensured a peaceful co-existence. Therefore, the state should be concerned and act with caution. The warfare won’t bring the youth on its side. The youth need change and needs another choice. They are part of this because the loss of hope and loss of trust in the government. That’s why the Nuer youths has taken arms, instead of petitioning the state in other ways. This is because the government haven’t had any avenues for them and they know J1 wouldn’t listen to them either. It is tragic, but this is the bleak reality. This is a cause of insecurity, because the J1 and allies lingers in office. They aren’t building institutions but becoming the personification of the state themselves. Therefore, President Kiir and Vice President Machar needs to take a step and now listen to the youths of the Upper Nile. From there act upon their needs and not take it easy. Since these are willing to take up arms and go to the trenches. That shouldn’t be an option, but it’s the only one viable right now. Peace.

Malawi: Chakwera’s blame game

“In fact, I want to categorically tell the leaders of this political party that your secret plans have been exposed and will not prevail. I say to the leaders of this political party that your plot to overthrow my government by instigating an illegal hyperinflation of prices will not succeed” – President Lazarus Chakwera (26.02.2025).

At one point in time, in Lilongwe and Blantyre, the people would have had fate or sought after the leadership of pastor and opposition leader Lazarus Chakwera. His Tonse Alliance seemed reasonable, but with time that has all withered away. The people of Malawi are clearly seeing the lack of leadership and actions of the state.

The current leadership are busy eating while it can. The government that lives on nepotism and misuse of office. The Prosperity Pastor turned President proves that his far from an angel, as he prefers to throw allegations, instead of looking into acts and decisions of the current administration.

“Madam Speaker, I have never claimed to be an angel, and neither have other leaders. Those who are looking for a leader who is an angel should vote for someone else this year” (Chakwera, 26.02.2025).

The President can reshuffle his cabinet. Do that as his on the podium and answering questions in Parliament. Ministers not ready or prepared for their sacking, as they are just axed. This isn’t moving softly but done to push the buck to others. As the fall-guy is the Minister sacked and not the whole administration in itself. Sosten Gwengwe was changed with Engineer Vitumbiko Mumba who becomes the new Minister of Trade and Industry. Therefore, that happened simultaneously as the Question Time was going on. That’s impressive of the President and still Gwengwe is “grateful” for the time served as Minister. We surely can wonder what he will do next…

Chakwera has a fall-guy plus the opposition and others are the ones behind the hyper-inflation. Not the lack of financial policies, financial measures or even mechanisms to ensure the forex, imports and whatever needed to keep prices at bay. Alas, that is wherein this government have failed and done so for a long time. Just like it has failed the nation with the lack of imports of gasoline or petroleum. The current leadership cannot even sustain that or be able to stop the troubles of shortages. Therefore, I am sure there are so outside forces to blame for that too.

The Juju isn’t strong with this one. Chakwera went from hope to despair. Lazarus is surely a lost cause. He has been a vagabond in office. A man who travelled to a digital conference. That’s the sort of leader he became in office. He went from offering huge promises but not delivering. That’s why people want him gone and rightfully so. Chakwera has proven his capabilities and what he does when he is power. Instead of serving and ensuring a better Malawi. As President, he has served himself and his own cronies. That’s why this is going down this way.

Chakwera had all the promise of the world and couldn’t even deliver just a little bit. He can talk big game, but he cannot deliver upon it. That is just what it is. Peace.

Opinion: Will Baba seek another handshake?

ODM leader Raila Odinga is poised to secure more Cabinet secretaries, Principal Secretaries, and ambassadors as he formalises his political partnership with President William Ruto. The two leaders are expected to announce their collaboration between the Kenya Kwanza coalition and ODM in the coming weeks, just before Ruto reveals a Cabinet reshuffle aimed at integrating more members from Raila’s party. This anticipated collaboration follows extensive consultations across the country and comes on the heels of the Monday high-level meeting between Raila and Ruto” (Mambo Mseto X, 26.02.2025).

The loss in Addis Ababa for Raila Odinga has now left the juggernaut in a quagmire of a position. As he was the candidate of the state and parts of his trusted leaders are already appointed into cabinet secretary positions in the “broad-based” government together with the Kenya Kwanza government of President William Ruto.

Odinga doesn’t have a foreign mission now or will be out of the haywire of Nairobi. No, he has returned home after a loss. His mission for the African Union was yet another electoral loss in the long career of Baba. The man who isn’t able or capable of winning, but coming in as a second. That happened again…

Raila and his Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) are already connected with the government. Neither if he has a direct agreement or a memorandum of understanding. The ODM is a part of the government, because of the Cabinet Secretaries coming from his party. They are there and are working for the joint-cause already.

Now we should just anticipate a handshake. The 2025 BBI or whatnot. The sort of making him Prime Minister or a semi-formulated role of reformist and game-changer in or partly inside the government. That’s what we should soon see, as that gives Ruto peace and Raila enough leverage to get his coins for his labour too.

Ruto was supportive and did give his blessing to the AUC candidature. That would give him less headaches at home. Now it has returned and something has to be done with Odinga. He needs to be busy and kept happy. Ruto and Odinga knows each other. They will make a backroom agreement or pact, which benefits them both without humiliating anyone. That’s what is coming…

Odinga has already sacrificed the Gen-Z and their start of a revolution. He stopped their tracks. Azimio haven’t come to their aide either. No one has listened or really tried to act on the needs of the ones on the streets. No, they was just able to stifle it and stop it from enlarging itself. That’s why we are here… Ruto and Odinga won’t act on their requests. No, these two are there to eat and it shows. Peace.

Opinion: Trump’s realignment is telling…

Always say yes to the president, always say yes to the president” – Howard Lutnick (25.02.2025).

There is just so much the world and the international community should take. The recent vote in favour of Russia in the United Nations should tell it all. United States in cahoots with Russian allies where all voting against the Russian invasion and aggression in Ukraine. Just like the “super-powers” themselves wants to rewrite history and make the victim the culprit of everything.

Alas, Washington D.C. isn’t playing around. President Trump and Co-President Elon Musk is both busy talking of Kremlin talking points and using their rhetoric in defence of their actions. Meanwhile, an inept and unqualified kakistocracy surrounding Donald Trump won’t safeguard his nation either. These are all loyal and token “yes-men” to follow whatever order or whims the two heads of government has.

Just reading this… and it shows where the Trump administration is headed.

Well, it could go forward for a while and maybe until we have a deal with Russia. Look, we need to have a deal with Russia, otherwise it’s going to continue. But now when Americans put up their money, the taxpayer money and the president approves it, we’re getting our money back in some form. But it could go on for a while or it could be settled quickly. I think it’s going to be settled quickly. I spoke with President Putin. I think he wants to settle it and wants to get on with life. It’s horrible. What’s happening, horrible. Thousands of soldiers a week are being killed and others too, but especially on the battlefield. Thousands a week are being killed and we want that to end” (Trump, 25.02.2025).

Kremlin and Russia must be in joy over their “victory”. This is Russian foreign interference and getting their goal. They have pawns and assets in the U.S. which has to be paid in due. That’s why Putin and Russia are favoured. The U.S. Administration are now in the grips of Putin and it shows. This is a weak government who is trading their allies on the altar of a former enemy. Really striking that the U.S. is doing it and so willingly. They are letting Ukraine and the European allies astray, as the U.S. and Russians are going into the sun-set. Seriously, this is sounding a like comrade and a commie ally from Trump. He is not even trying to code it.

Well, we’ll see. I mean, right now we’re just in the process of negotiating. We’ve pretty much negotiated our deal on Rare Earth and various other things. We’ll be looking at that security. You’re talking about general security for Ukraine later on. I don’t think that’s going to be a problem. There are a lot of people that want to do it. And I spoke with Russia about it, they didn’t seem to have a problem with it” (Trump, 25.02.2025).

Trump thinks that him in the Office of the President can easily decide the fate of other nations and their sovereignty. That’s because his a U.S. President and sway such vast powers, as the instruments of his office. This is why his trying to bully other nations into submission and thinking they will follow his orders. Alas, that he thinks a weaker party and a hurting one like Ukraine will just settle. They are the ones fighting for its rights to exist and be a independent nation. Alas, that is to much to ask for the likes of Trump. That’s because Trump is serving the interests of Kremlin and it shows. We shouldn’t be shocked if the Trump Administration starts selling or sending weaponry to Russia. Instead of helping Kyiv and their former allies in Europe. No, Trump rather be an ally with Putin than having friends in Paris, London or Berlin.

This sort of Press Conference is just showing. Ukraine and Europe have to deal with this on their own. The U.S. isn’t an ally any longer. The U.S. is changing its tune and now they aren’t a part of the old hegemony. Therefore, expect another realignment and that things aren’t the same no longer. Peace.

Kawempe North By-Election: First Nomination Day turns violent…

“Three candidates have, so far, been nominated to contest for Kawempe Division North Constituency Parliamentary seat: (Day 1).

-Hanifa Karadi Murerwa (independent)

-Luwemba Lusswa Muhammed (Independent)

-Luyimbazi Elias Nalukoola (NUP)” (97.8 Kazo FM Omushomesa, 26.02.2025).

“Mukiibi Sadat of FDC is the fourth candidate on Day 1 to be nominated by the Returning Officer to contest for Member of Parliament, Kawempe North Constituency” (The Electoral Commission, 26.02.2025).

“Kawempe North by-election: Nsereko Moses has been sent back by Electoral Commission officials after failing to provide a professional portrait for use on his campaign poster during the election period” (NTV Uganda, 26.02.2025).

“There was tension as security forces quickly arrested NUP member and Counsel Elias Luyimbaazi Nalukoola, shortly after he was nominated to contest for the Kawempe North MP seat” (Rest TV, 26.02.2025).

“NUP candidate for Kawempe North MP by-election, Elias Nalukoola has reportedly been arrested by security operatives moments after his nomination. Hours to his nomination, Mr Nalukoola told journalists that one of his agents had been abducted and his official nomination documents stolen. He’s reportedly detained at Kawempe Police Station on yet to be known charges” (Daily Monitor, 26.02.2025).

“The Speaker of Nansana Municipal Council Hamza Kasozi was brutally abducted by JATT as he attended the nomination of NUP candidate Luyimbaazi Nalukoola in the Kawempe North byelection” (Kampala Updates, 26.02.2025).

The ones believing the Kawempe North By-Election will bring any positivity and be a game changer are naïve. There isn’t any report from the Constituency or how the authorities are handling the elections. Giving me any doubts or trust in the process. This By-Election has already become a warzone. That’s on the first day of nominations and not even close to the polls.

The regime is just showing its vicious force and what it is willing to do. Just imagine that someone is arrested for becoming a candidate. The state is clearly invested in this By-Election. It is important for the state to conquer and control the narratives. That’s why they fired live bullets at journalists and brought in the guns to the start of the By-Election. The citizens and the Electoral Commission need the authorities to come with viciousness and blind violence. That’s what the state is serving them…

Just imagine someone was shot for reporting about the nominations of candidates coming to the Electoral Commission today. An agent of an candidate was arrested with the paperwork of the candidate ahead of meeting and coming to present the candidate to the Electoral Commission. That is the sort of democratic values the regime has. This is who they are and what is important is the guns, and not the people who are stepping up to represent the constituency.

This here is just showing how the NRM tends to the arms and bullets, instead of policies and caring or concern of the population. The NRM holy grail is the army and the law enforcement, as that keeps it in power. That’s why the NRM must use violence, intimidation and misuse of force towards unarmed civilians. This is the only way it can show its power and its dominance. Because it cannot show any soft power or capabilities to be an honest actor in a constituency like this.

The ones believing this By-Election will be any good. You are wrong and the first day of nominations just shows this. We are now seeing the brutality and the merciless actions of the state. That should show the bleak reality and why you cannot trust the authorities. As they are busy supressing people and silencing the ones who dares to challenge it. Therefore, we will see more violence and desperate acts of brutality, as they cannot act within reason or be sincere in their actions. This is who they are, and they are just repeating their sins. Peace.
